Reader Discussion: Which Gears Of Wars Is Your Favorite?

This morning, we revealed our latest cover story for Gears of War 4, which promises to take the series back to its darker, horror-themed roots. With so much excitement in the air, it got us thinking about the franchise and all its entries, making us wonder which one is your favorite and why.

Did you like Gears best in the beginning or feel like the series got better with age? All the games were great in their own regard, so making a choice is tough, but I spent the most time with Gears of War 2, so that gets my vote.

Let us know in the comments below which entry is your favorite and what you're hoping for from Gears of War 4.

A Microsoft Studios Website Cleanup Turned Into Unfounded Rumors Of Impending Layoffs

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that it will be closing Press Play and proposing the closure of Fable developer Lionhead. Changes to the Microsoft Studios website led some to believe the cuts were deeper than originally thought. That isn’t the case.

The rumors spun out of changes that removed a number of logos, primarily of teams working on Kinect projects, from the Microsoft Studios website. Here’s how it looked on March 4 (as identified by Videogamer):

Hollowpoint Development Ceases Due To Terminated Publisher Agreement With Paradox

The co-op action game Hollowpoint, from Crackdown 2 developer Ruffian Games, has an uncertain future due to a collapsed publishing deal with Paradox.  Paradox told GameWatcher that the publishing deal was "amicably terminated" and gave the following statement (which we received as well upon inquiry):

After recent ongoing discussions between the two companies, it became apparent to both parties that the creative vision for the project was diverging and so the decision was ultimately taken to cease our co-operation in order to serve the long-term interests of the game. We would like to thank Ruffian Games for all their hard work and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours. Paradox will be re-evaluating the creative direction of ‘Hollowpoint’ internally before making any final decisions.

Ruffian Games gave its own additional comments to Eurogamer, revealing that development ended as early as summer 2015:

Prime 1 Studio previously released photos of a work-in-progress sculpt for a statue of The Scarecrow, based on his appearance in Arkham Knight. The studio posted a much more detailed, textured prototype of the Batman villain, complete with his toxin-injecting gauntlet and signature burlap hood.

Though details on the Jonathan Crane replica are scarce, we know the statue will stand at 1/3 scale. In the past, Prime 1 Studio has released a bevy of Arkham Knight-inspired statues, including this bust of the Caped Crusader and this $900 replica of the namesake villain

You can check out the original Instagram post here. To see the entire line of statues from Prime 1, including figures based off Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, head to the website

You Can Play Quidditch In Halo 5

What happens when you mix Grifball and Halo 5’s Forge editor? Magic. That’s what happens. Magic.

Harry Potter fans have been fascinated by the fictional sport of Quidditch. Teams of broomstick-riding players attempt to score in one of three hoops on either end of the field.

The game has been recreated in real life (with modified Muggle rules, of course). And now it’s been imported into Halo 5 by a user named xXHugabearXx.

Telltale’s Batman Game To Be Revealed At SXSW

During The Game Awards in December 2015, Telltale announced it was partnering with DC Comics once more. This time out, the developer known for The Walking Dead, Tales from the Borderlands, and Game of Thrones is taking on Batman.

We’ll finally have a better understanding of how that project is coming together in less than two weeks. Telltale is taking the stage at SXSW in Austin on March 18 to discuss how it’s applying its brand of storytelling to the Dark Knight.

Hosted by Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller, the panel will “dive deeper into the complex life and mind of Bruce Wayne, the duality of his own identity, and the struggle of responsibility in saving a city overcome with corruption and villainy.” Don’t worry if you won’t be at SXSW. You’ll be able to catch a livestream from home.
