Microsoft On Using Its HoloLens Or The Oculus Rift With Xbox One

HoloLens and Xbox One are both a focus of Microsoft's 2016 Build Developer Conference, and we spoke with Xbox group manager, Jason Ronald, about whether we can expect the two to ever intersect.

We asked Ronald about the likelihood of being able to plug a HoloLens device into an Xbox One in the future, and though there are no immediate plans, Ronald offered a vague, but optimistic answer. “I think we’re early in the days of HoloLens and how do we provide those great rich, experiences," Ronald said. "From my perspective, I think the future is wide open as we continue to innovate on the hardware and the sort of experiences we can deliver, I think there all kinds of opportunities ahead of us.”

Far Cry Primal Getting Survivor Mode In Free Update

As if the prehistoric world of Far Cry Primal wasn't already hazardous enough, a new mode is coming on April 12 that offers a more hardcore experience – including an option for permadeath.

Announced via the Ubiblog, the Survivor mode will be released at no cost on all platforms. It has permadeath options that players can toggle, but also adds other features that add a more realistic spin on your exploration. For instance, Takkar now has a stamina gauge to manage, he is more susceptible to cold, and the mini-map is turned off. Even things like crafting and fast-travel are made a bit more weighty, forcing players to be more thoughtful and deliberate with their actions. Ubisoft's blog posts goes into greater detail about exactly which mechanics are affected and how.

Survivor mode isn't an entirely separate difficulty level; all of its features are layered over whatever difficulty you select.

Preview To Turn Your Xbox One Into A Dev Kit Is Available Today

During Microsoft's annual Build Developer Conference event (which generally focuses more on the non-gaming side of Microsoft) head of Xbox Phil Spencer took to the keynote stage to talk about its PC gaming plans as well as offer some details about the future of Xbox.

A feature that was promised early in the Xbox One's life is the ability to turn any Xbox One into a dev kit. That feature is finally coming as early as today with a preview of the dev mode already available. On stage, Microsoft detailed the ability by showcasing how users will be able to switch to dev mode, and back to retail mode on their console. Dev Mode Activation will be an app you can download from the Xbox One's store, along with an app called Dev Home, and once you're all registered as a developer, you will be able to use the app to switch back and forth.

The full release will come alongside WIndows 10's Anniversary update, which is still in the process up being dated.
