Blizzard Issues Cease And Desist To Unauthorized WoW Vanilla Server

Blizzard has reportedly fired a warning shot over a major unauthorized World of Warcraft server. The group running the Nostalrius “vanilla” server says its internet service provider has received cease and desist notices from the publisher’s United States- and France-based attorneys.

Nostalrius has been up and running for over a year and will be shut down on April 10. Unauthorized servers are a clear violation of the World of Warcraft terms of service, and it appears that the group’s activities violate elements of the TOS that expressly prohibit this kind of thing.

The group behind the effort says it will continue to provide the means for players to create their own servers. The source code will be made available, and anonymized player data will provided so the community can decide how it wants to proceed. It’s not clear yet how Blizzard feels about these developments (but we’ve inquired).

Resident Evil's Umbrella Corps Delayed

Capcom's multiplayer-focused Resident Evil title Umbrella Corps has been delayed into June in order to give the dev team a little more time to optimize the game.

The PC/PS4 title – originally planned for May – will now come out on June 21.

The good news, however, is that a new trailer for the title covering just some of the player customization options (from weapons to scalable equipment decals) has released.

Retailer Listing Shows Telltale Is Publishing 7 Days To Die On Console

Telltale Publishing has been teasing something new and spooky over the past few days, and it looks as though online retailer Amazon has prematurely booted the cat out of the bag. According to a listing on the site, Telltale is publishing The Fun Pimps' survival-horror game 7 Days to Die for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The site has it listed for a June 14 release, priced at $29.99. The open-world game was previously released on Steam, where the developer says it's sold more than 1.5 million copies. Players can craft and repair their own tools – including weapons, armor, clothing, and vehicles – to stay alive against a relentless undead threat. There are hundreds of items to create, and a wide variety of skills and perks to make survival easier (but not exactly easy).

According to the listing, the console version adds split-screen co-op, which should make you feel a little less alone out there. But be careful what you wish for; up to eight players can meet up online, either choosing to join forces and work together or take out their fellow humans.

Official Fear Effect Kickstarter Campaign Announced With Teaser Trailer

Square Enix has given the greenlight to French indie developer Sushee to go ahead with a Kickstarter for Fear Effect Sedna – a different take on the series' gameplay.

The developer Sushee has put up a little teaser trailer for the project, and Eurogamer has some additional details on Sedna, which will use an isometric camera as players coordinate the actions of up to five characters to get the job done. Sushee says it was inspired to turn in this direction by Harebrained Scheme's Shadowrun Returns.

Hana and Rain return in Sedna, which takes place four years after the unreleased Fear Effect 3. Also returning to the franchise is writer and director John Zuur Platten, who aims to not only continue the story he helped create, but also steer it away from the focus on the sexuality of Hana and Rain that occurred in Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix (directed by Stan Liu).

Report: Fable Legends Development Might Be Saved

There might be some good news for Fable fans this morning. A report suggests that development on Fable Legends, an asymmetric, free-to-play game, might be saved.

Development was halted in March as Microsoft announced it was beginning a “consultation” period for Fable developer Lionhead. This has likely dire meaning, with a studio closure one of a few different possibilities that include significant layoffs under the guise of reorganization.

MCV is reporting from multiple sources that discussions are ongoing about ways to save the game from oblivion. According to MCV, contracted workers have already departed the studio, but employees may have an option to stay on rather than accept a severance package.

Star Wars: Rogue One Trailer Coming Tomorrow, See The Teaser Now

Star Wars fans speculated that Lucasfilm would likely release the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: Rogue One on Star Wars Day (May 4). In a move no one could have seen coming, the first trailer for the film is debuting tomorrow on ABC's Good Morning America television show.

The announcement came with a brief 11-second teaser video that shows off a new version of the stormtrooper that is likely the shadow trooper that Lucasfilm recently trademarked. Star Wars: Rogue One is not a continuation of Finn and Rey's story from last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and is instead a prequel story that gives us insight into how the Rebel Alliance came into possession of the Death Star plans. Rogue One is slated to open in theaters on December 16. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards.
