Ossic 3D Audio Headset Is Poised To Revolutionize Gaming, Music, And Film

about X hours ago from

When we talk about gaming innovations, we often discuss visual improvements, new input modalities, and social features. One area tends to get the short shrift, though. Let’s talk about audio.

There have been significant technical innovations in sound over the past five years, with gaming headsets becoming more affordable and therefore widely used. Most use two drivers (speakers), producing stereo or simulated surround-sound audio using Dolby IIx or DTS algorithms.

Ossic is taking that a number of steps further with a 3D audio solution that is likely to revolutionize both casual and professional gaming. The differences start with adapting the audio to individual users’ heads.

The Altair bust has been sculpted with the master assassin's original colors as well as a limited "Bronze Edition." Take a look at all four in the gallery below.

The busts have been listed for pre-order and will be available on July 5, while the Leap of Faith figurine is available now. The Leap of Faith figurine is currently out of stock, but it retails for $59.99. The busts range in price from $39.99 to $49.99. All of these items can be purchased through the UbiWorkshop Store.

MLB The Show 16 Experiencing Debilitating Server Issues That Affect All Modes

MLB The Show 16 Experiencing Debilitating Server Issues That Affect All Modes

Early yesterday morning, MLB The Show 16 underwent server maintenance as announced on the official MLB The Show Twitter account. When the maintenance window ended, however, players began noticing that the menus are taking much longer than usual to load – sometimes to the point where it displays an error message.

The load times, which are worsened during prime time hours, affect any part of the game that tries to access the servers. This means it not only affects modes like online matchmaking and the server-focused Diamond Dynasty mode, but also single-player modes like Road to the Show and franchise since you can sometimes earn rewards for Diamond Dynasty for leveling up your player card. Since you also earn Diamond Dynasty rewards for starting up the game, even trying to load the main menu from the title screen can throw an error or take abnormally long to load.

I experienced these problems last night. Below, you can see a video I took several minutes into the game attempting to load the main menu from the title screen.

YouTube Gaming Reveals Its Top Trending Games For March 2016

YouTube Gaming announced its top trending games for March 2016 today. After The Division's financially successful launch, it's no surprise that Ubisoft's popular shooter takes the top slot.

Mortal Kombat X comes in at second place after the release of Kombat Pack 2 gave it a bump in popularity, and this makes Street Fighter V's absence even more conspicuous. Clash Royale replaces last month's third-place holder XCOM 2. EA Sports UFC edges out Dark Souls III for the number 4 slot, and the Souls game ends up ranking relatively high for not releasing in the West until April 12.

Upsilon Circuit, The Death-Filled Game You Can Only Play Once, Gets New Investor And Upcoming Beta

Execution Labs, a company that invests in early-stage independent developers, has partnered with Robot Loves Kitty to produce Upsilon Circuit. The multiplayer action-RPG juggles a lot of ideas involving streaming, audience participation, and permadeath, and sign ups have opened for the upcoming closed beta.

Upsilon Circuit surprised us at PAX 2014 with an intriguing slate of features seemingly inspired by Twitch Plays Pokemon. Only eight players compete on a single server during a limited number of broadcasts. Spectators collectively influence the unfolding game of death by choosing contestants' skills and items. Participants are plucked from the audience, and once you die, that's it. You only get one chance.

The game wears its influences on it's sleeve with a concept and execution similar to Smash TV. A stark '80s vibe comes from the game's snarky announcer Ronnie Raygon, who is a mix of Ronald Reagan and glitched-out AI personality Max Headroom.
