There’s A New Lara Croft, And It’s Not Daisy Ridley

Back in March, a report surfaced that Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) was one of many actresses under consideration for the role of Lara Croft. You can put those Indiana Jones/Han Solo comparisons to bed, because another actress has scored the role.

Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl, Ex Machina) will be playing Lara Croft in an upcoming MGM and GK Films picture. Roar Uthaug, who has directed a number of Norwegian films, will be behind the camera.

Vikander will be appearing in the upcoming Jason Bourne. No release date has been set for the film.

Altus Continues First-Run Bonus Tradition With Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse Pin Set

Atlus has often treated its early adopters to a special treat for jumping in early. Art books, soundtracks, and other collectibles are often bundled in free with first-run copies of the publisher’s games.

For Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, players can wear their chosen path with pride. The first-run comes with a set of three metal pins bearing three different symbols.

Included are emblems matching the paths of peace and anarchy, as well as one representing the deity Dagda, who resurrects the player at the start. If you want a set, you’ll need to pre-order or otherwise get one of the first copies at launch.

Two More Xbox Live Arcade Games Now Backward Compatible

This week has been a good one for Xbox One owners that purchased classic games last-generation. Today, two more titles join the five from earlier in the week as part of the backward compatibility program.

Frogger and Galaxy Legions DX join the party starting today. The $4.99 Frogger brings the original arcade version to the 360 (and now Xbox One). Galaga Legions DX ($9.99) is a full remake that follows in the style of Pac-Man Championship Edition, with bright, neon colors and a gameplay remix that blends old and new.

A Nugget Of Doom Nostalgia Is Hidden In Every Mission

Id Software hasn’t forgotten Doom’s 23-year legacy. In advance of the new game due out in May, the studio has revealed a set of easter eggs for which you can (and should) be on the look out.

Speaking with IGN, id’s Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin revealed that each level will have a lever that opens a hidden door. Once you find it, you’ll be treated to a snippet of a classic Doom or Doom II level.

They won’t be the entire things, but once you uncover them, you’ll be able to play the whole map from the menu. Some of these include original music, and all have monsters in the appropriate location.

Mads Mikkelsen Reveals Who He Plays In Star Wars: Rogue One

Mads Mikkelsen Reveals Who He Plays In Star Wars: Rogue One

Actor Mads Mikkelsen (not pictured above) is one of the biggest names attached to Star Wars: Rogue One, but he was oddly absent in the teaser trailer. In an interview with Sky News, Mikkelsen, who jokingly threatened to kill the reporter and audience if he mentioned any story details, revealed the role his character plays in the film.

"Felicity [Jones] plays this lovely, strong woman, and I play her father," he says. Jones plays Jyn Erso, who we believe is the main character of the film, and a character who joins the Rebellion to steal the Death Star plans from the Empire.

Mikkelsen can't seem to stop spoiling Rogue One's story details. His first slip up was signing the name "Galen" on a fan's poster. Galen is presumably the name of his character in the film. You can watch the interview with Mikkelsen below.

Forza Motorsport 6: Apex Getting An Open Beta

Forza Motorsport 6: Apex isn't just a port of Forza 6 for Windows 10 players. No, the game is a curated experience of the Xbox One title, and players will get to see what it has to offer before they buy it thanks to an open beta.

The game's beta starts on May 5, and although neither it nor the full Apex game has the series' famed livery editor, an update to the beta will include a selection of curated livery designs.

Apex will evolve as time goes on to include wheel support and other PC-centric features. The game requires Windows 10, and does not feature online multiplayer racing.

Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, And Pokémon Were Nintendo's Best Selling Games Last Quarter

Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, And Pokémon Were Nintendo's Best Selling Games Last Quarter

Along with the full-year financial report released yesterday, Nintendo has updated its list of ten best-selling software titles. The past three months saw very little shifting in the ranks, though the Wii U and 3DS lists tell very different stories.

With the exception of the last two spots switching, everything remains in order on the Wii U side of things. Nine of the ten games saw increases in attach rates, with only Nintendo Land dipping a bit (because it is no longer packed in).

Because of the lack of third-party support and a general slow release schedule, Wii U gamers are picking up the fewer stand-out games in larger numbers. Mario Kart is typically one of Nintendo's best sellers, but by comparison, the Mario Kart Wii attach rate was only 36 percent (behind only Wii Sports in sales). Wii Party, in the number 10 slot for that system's rankings, only had an attach rate of nine percent.

New Fire Emblem Fates DLC Maps Introduce New Storyline

Nintendo and developer Intelligent Systems have announced another series of maps for Fire Emblem Fates, and this second map pack tells its own story.

Map Pack 2 consists of six maps (see scheduling and prices below) that culminate in a contained story involving alternate-dimension versions of the Hoshidan and Nohrian children, who are under attack. Moreover, the map pack does not allow units leveled up in the main game to help out.

Fire Emblem Fates is split into two games, Birthright and Conquest, but the map pack will work with either one.
