Vivendi Tightens Hold On Ubisoft With Additional Stock Purchase

Vivendi has been making moves in the video game world just two years after receiving a huge buyout/bailout package from Activision to the tune of $8 billion. The company has been buying up shares of Ubisoft hinting at a hostile takeover.

The latest purchase brings Vivendi’s control to 17.73 percent of capital and 15.66 percent of voting shares, according to a Reuters report. In the letter from the company to French market regulators, Vivendi says it has “no plans” to take over the Assassin’s Creed publisher, nor will it be making a public offer for outstanding shares.

Ubisoft has said that it deems Vivendi’s actions unwelcome and unsolicited. The publisher has made moves in Canada to secure additional private and public investment.

John Romero’s Night Work Games Cancels Kickstarter For First-Person Shooter Blackroom

After just four days, John Romero and Adrian Carmack’s Night Work Games has canceled the Kickstarter intended to propel the duo back into the spotlight. The campaign for Blackroom, which has only raised $131,052 (18.7 percent) of the $700,000 goal will be back, though.

Night Work says that it is taking feedback from backers and other interested parties. The studio will be working up a gameplay demo before rebooting its campaign.

“We’re pressing ‘PAUSE’ on the fundraising campaign for BLACKROOM to complete this gameplay demo,” the studio says. “Simply put, this will take more time than the Kickstarter has left, so we’ve decided to suspend the campaign and launch a new one when the gameplay demo is ready. We believe, however, it is the right choice. We know you do, too. Thanks to your feedback, we know we should have included it at launch.”

Another day means another Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare leak. This time, we’re getting a look at what appears to be a Canadian poster detailing more of how you’ll be able to get the Modern Warfare remaster.

According to an advertising poster, the game will be out on November 4, 2016 (Canadians use the day/month/year format). The standard version of the game will be $79.99 CDN ($59.99 USD).

Fable Developer Lionhead Studios Is Closing Today

about X hours ago from

It has been nearly two months since Microsoft announced it was considering closure of Fable developer Lionhead. After a consultation period that resulted in no potential buyers or other solutions, the studio is closing today.

Employees have been sharing memories and their farewells to the 20-year-old developer that brought to life Fable, Black & White, and The Movies. The image above was tweeted by studio director Stuart Whyte.

Lionhead was most recently working on Fable Legends, a free-to-play multiplayer game that pit one player as the villain working to confound a team of four heroes. The title never made it into open beta, despite being shown at numerous events and a closed beta since its announcement at Gamescom 2013.

The 2016 NFL Draft is underway, and whether you're a Rams fans salivating at getting first overall pick Jared Goff or looking to crush receivers with Jalen Ramsey, you can play with these newly minted rookies in Madden NFL 16's Ultimate Team mode.

I wonder if developer EA Tiburon will create a special Gas Mask version for Miami's Laremy Tunsil...

Conan O'Brien Plays Mario Kart 8 With Seth Rogen And Zac Efron

Late night talk show host Conan O'Brien recently hung out with the two stars from the film Neighbors 2, so naturally they had to play Mario Kart 8. One of them clearly isn't as good as the others.

Conan O’Brien’s Clueless Gamer segments are usually pretty funny, and this one is no exception. If you like this be sure to watch him play games like UFC 2, Mortal Kombat X, The Witcher 3, and Fallout 4.
