Minecraft Battle Kicks Off Console Mini-Game Support Next Month

about X hours ago from

Hunger has long been a part of the Minecraft experience. Hunger Games on the other hand, is something PC modders have added on their own. Console players can get a similar experience with the first Minecraft mini-game, Battle.

I recently had the chance to give Battle a try, and while I wasn’t blown away by the demo, the framework has potential. Minecraft Battle will launch with three free maps on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U in June. Included in the preview were a gorgeous pirate cove, a large cave with an open (and deadly) expanse in the center, and a deadly, lava-filled arena.

More packs will be added for $2.99 as time goes on. These eight-player matches are single-elimination, supporting up to four-player splitscreen. You’ll have opportunity at the beginning to look for weapons, armor, and potions in chests, during which time you can’t be harmed.

40 Million PlayStation 4s Have Been Sold Worldwide

Sony has upgraded its sales numbers for PlayStation 4. During its year-end earnings report, the company reported that it had shipped 40 million units as of March 31, 2016. As of May 22, that has been upgraded to 40 million units sold.

The company also reports that the PlayStation 4 remains Sony's fastest-selling PlayStation console. Software sales at retail on PlayStation Network now total 270.9 million (not inclusive of DLC and other add-on content), putting attach rate at six (nearing seven) games per console sold. This comes just days after Sony announced Uncharted 4 sales had reached 2.7 million copies.

With E3 just a few weeks away, rumors are swirling about a hardware announcement focused on a more powerful version of the PlayStation 4. You can read more about that in our previous coverage.
