Minecraft-Inspired Dragon Quest Builders Is Coming To North America This Fall

Today, Square Enix confirmed that Dragon Quest Builders is headed West this fall. The announcement news aligns perfectly with Dragon Quest's 30th anniversary. Dragon Quest Builders is heavily inspired by Minecraft, but lets you recreate the world of Dragon Quest with its familiar characters and monsters. In it, you must rebuild Alefgard, which has been destroyed by the infamous Dragonlord.

At TGS 2015, the game made my localization wish list for its fun progression that comes from building up the world Dragon Quest style. As you create more places and items, more NPCs will appear in the world. Crafting also plays a big role, allowing you to create new items for your buildings. And, of course, you will fight iconic Dragon Quest monsters that will provide some of your crafting ingredients. Get ready to see plenty of slimes roaming the landscape.

Reader Discussion: What Franchises Deserve A Doom-Style Entry?

Doom is a great modern shooter in the vein of classic shooters. What other games need a similar revival.

If you haven't started playing Doom yet, you should. It's been consuming my game time, even though I badly want to finish Uncharted 4. The game perfectly captures what made the original Doom games so memorable while revitalizing those concepts with modern day tech. Read our review for more on that.

The game has also got me thinking that the modern state of shooters wasn't a forgone conclusion – it's just one possible evolution of the shooter idea. The new Doom shows another way that shooters could have evolved. What other games – or game franchises – deserve a similar treatment? Personally, I'd love to see a revival of the original Resident Evil formula, but with modern technology. I think the recent rereleases of the Remake and 0 prove that the formula still works. Who knows, maybe that's what we'll be getting with the remake of 2. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing a modern day take on the Earthbound franchise.

Uncharted Gets Amazing Real-Life Recreation

Uncharted is one of the biggest releases of the year. It's clear that the game took a lot of time an effort to make. This real-life reenactment of the game also took a lot of effort. How's that for a cheap transition?

We're not joking around, this real life version of Uncharted 4 from Freakin Rad is freaking impressive. If you like this, you'll love the actual game (read the review here), which we think sets a new high bar for storytelling.

On Xbox One, your disc will include Dead Island, Dead Island Riptide, and the bonus Dead Island Retro Revenge brawler. On PlayStation 4, the disc is a little thinner (metaphorically).

That platform only includes Dead Island Definitive Edition on the disc. The other two items are acquired via download using included redemption codes.
