Titanfall 2’s Multiplayer Tech Test Not Coming To PC

about X hours ago from

Respawn Entertainment’s upcoming sequel to Titanfall is releasing on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. However, one of those platforms is being left out for the open multiplayer tech test that’s coming before the game’s launch.

Respawn CEO Vince Zampella explains in a blog post the reason behind excluding the PC crowd from Titanfall 2’s test run, which officially boils down to the fact that individual PC configurations are too diverse and the game hasn’t been tested for compatibility yet.

“We’re still making a lot of tweaks and changes to the renderer, the game, and effects so we haven’t run the game through the hardware compatibility lab yet to detect and handle a large variety of hardware - video cards, CPUs etc,” Zampella says. “Quite frankly, we aren't ready to deal with that yet, we are still making the game better.”

Axiom Verge Finally Hits The Wii U In September

Developer Thomas Happ's Metroid-inspired indie game Axiom Verge finally has a Wii U release date. The game lands on Nintendo's home console on September 1.

In a lengthy blog post, Happ detailed the long struggle to get the game to Wii U, the platform he feels has always been the game's home. He explained the game's distinct Nintendo influences as well as why the Wii U version is the one to play if you haven't yet experienced Axiom Verge:

Even though the game’s been out for a little while on other systems, the Wii U version is probably the best one. It’s the only console version to support leaderboards for the dedicated Speedrun Mode. And the Wii U GamePad will allow people to have the world map viewable at all times without pausing the game – or to play Off-TV.

Try Out Splatoon For Free August 25-28

For those of you who haven't gotten around to trying out the ink-spraying multiplayer game Splatoon from 2015, you're in luck because a free demo is on the way.

From August 25-28 between the hours of 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM (Pacific Time) each day, Wii U owners can download a free Test Fire demo for Splatoon from the Nintendo eShop. You will then have access to Turf War battles, the game's classic multiplayer mode that pits two teams of four against each other to cover the map with as much squid ink as you can.

Only select weapons and maps will be available in the demo. Weapons access will be limited to the Splattershot Jr, Splattershot, Splat Roller and Splat Charger and the two maps demo users will be able to splatter are Saltspray Rig and Walleye Warehouse.

Destiny: The Collection Coming On September 20

Destiny: The Collection Coming On September 20

Activision and Bungie have revealed an all-in-one collection that includes every expansion and update for Destiny – even the upcoming Rise of Iron. That’s a lot of content in a single package, and it may be the perfect opportunity for last-gen players to make the leap.

When the $60 collection launches on September 20, players get the base game, plus The Dark Below, House of Wolves, The Taken King, and Rise of Iron (which also releases independently that day). Most Destiny fans have been keeping up as the game expands, but because Rise of Iron is not supported for players on PS3 and Xbox 360, this could be the right time for last-gen players to upgrade to new hardware (though repurchasing every part of the game may not be necessary with the upgrade program).

Minecraft Oculus Rift Support Arrives Today In Free Update

Mojang has announced that as of today, Minecraft will now be playable on an Oculus Rift. We first heard the sandbox game was coming to the PC-powered virtual reality headset since Oculus Connect 2 in September 2015, and the game has previously made its way to VR in April with Gear VR.

Rift support comes at no extra cost. For those that already purchased Minecraft on Windows 10, a free update will enable VR features. Currently, Minecraft on Windows 10 is still in open beta, and is receiving regular updates. Check out our previous coverage here.

At E3, it was revealed that Minecraft would support cross-play between platforms. As for future releases, Minecraft is expected to make its way to the augmented reality headset, Microsoft HoloLens, once it launches commercially.

Report Details The Dangers Of Developer Crunch Time & Its Solutions

Report Details The Dangers Of Developer Crunch Time & Its Solutions

The road of video game development is long and hard. Studios have to deal with internal and publisher deadlines – not to mention the public's expectation that the game come out on time – that push the time and dedication of developers beyond the confines of a normal work week. This deadline push, which can happen several times during a project, is called crunch time, and it has become an accepted reality of making video games. A 2015 survey by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) revealed that 62 percent of respondents said their projects had a crunch, and half of those said this consisted of working more than 60 hours a week.

However, some have questioned the practice, its effectiveness, and most importantly, its effect on developers. Take This is a non-profit charity organization created by ex-Polygon founding editor Russ Pitts, executive editor of GamesRadar+ Susan Arendt, and clinical psychologist Dr. Mark Kline aimed at addressing mental health issues in the industry. Take This and the IGDA have published a report entitled Crunch Hurts outlining the problem. "While crunch may be an inevitable part of the game making process," it states, "understanding the mental and physical impact of the practice can lead to better work practices overall, and ultimately happier (and more productive) employees."
