Destiny Private Matches Opening Tomorrow

Destiny Private Matches Opening Tomorrow

A mistaken email from a third-party representative for Activision has revealed that Destiny’s private match functionality is going live a week ahead of Rise of Iron’s launch. While the press release was sent in error ahead of a planned announcement tomorrow, the email appears to be official, and comes from a source that has sent official Destiny-related details in the past.

If the press release is to be believed, and there’s little reason to doubt it, the full private match functionality will be available on Tuesday, September 13, possibly as early as 9 a.m. Pacific time, when the email was originally planned for release.

Private matches are supported on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but not on older consoles. With the new functionality, players can choose between Destiny’s many competitive game modes and play on any of the available game maps. For the first time, private matches mean that Destiny will be a viable option for tournament play, as well as opening up the possibility of a professional Destiny gaming scene. For the average player, it means you can pick and choose the style of play you want and play exclusively with your friends.

Where's Our ReCore Review?

Where's Our ReCore Review?

The review embargo is up for Comcept's third-person action shooter title, ReCore, which goes on sale tomorrow. While you'll have to wait a bit longer for Game Informer's review, I've got some early impressions that you'll want to check out if you're thinking about buying it.

I'm still in the process of playing through ReCore on Xbox One, so it will be another day or two until our official review goes live. However, the game has already made some positive and negative impressions on me, which I want to share with those eager to check out the game.

While ReCore doesn't have the most impressive visuals, the (mostly) open world of Far Eden is an intriguing environment to explore thanks to its myriad platforming puzzles and dungeons in need of pillaging. The platforming mechanics have performed admirably so far, and ReCore provides a satisfying drip feed of story information that's kept me entertained. I also like the robotic animal companions, which each have their own ability and personality, and can be upgraded with different frames. You don't earn a ton of new abilities as you level up, but crafting better parts for your companions and collecting orbs to boost their abilities is satisfying.

Zero Time Dilemma Limited Edition Watches Shipping To Buyers Damaged

Zero Time Dilemma Limited Edition Watches Shipping To Buyers Damaged

Although we figured the saga of the Zero Time Dilemma pre-order watches was over the last time we covered it, it seems to rage on.

Previously, we'd reported the watches had been delayed a few weeks after the initial shipments had been damaged and returned to their manufacturers. Then we reported new watches were finally being shipped out to retailers. Now, unfortunately, it seems the new watches customers are receiving have also been damaged.

Siliconera reports that customers have been receiving damaged watches and packages. The watches have scratches on them intentionally (to reflect the way they look in-game), but many also have additional scratches, broken parts, or cracked plastic casing. An Aksys PR rep has taken to Twitter to clarify what constitutes actual damage and help direct buyers to the right channels to get their watch replaced.

World Of Warcraft's Rob Pardo Opening New Game Development Studio

Rob Pardo, formerly lead designer on World of Warcraft as well as the former Chief Creative Officer of Blizzard Entertainment, has revealed that he's starting a new game development studio called Bonfire Studios.

Pardo, now serving as CEO of Bonfire, wrote up a post to explain the philosophy behind the studio as well as the reason behind its name:

One of the most rewarding parts of creating any game, be it a D&D campaign or a massive persistent world, is the connection you have to the players themselves. You get to see the player’s reactions, you get to respond to them and make their experience better over time. It’s like the warmth of friends around a bonfire, sharing stories.

The Last Guardian Delayed Until December

The Last Guardian Delayed Until December

The Last Guardian has been delayed again. The long-awaited title is now set for a December release date, instead of its planned October launch. In a post on the official PlayStation blog, SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said the delay was necessary to address an unexpected number of bugs.

"Fumito Ueda, gen DESIGN and JAPAN Studio have a wonderful vision for The Last Guardian’s touching, emotional journey of friendship and trust, and we want to deliver the most polished experience possible for our fans who have supported us for so long," Yoshida wrote. "A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues."

The game's new release date is December 6.
