From Death Stranding To Horizon Zero Dawn, What To Expect From PlayStation Experience

This weekend should be a big one for video game news. On the heels of tonight's The Game Awards show, which teases up to 10 world-exclusive reveals for games like Mass Effect Andromeda and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Sony is kicking off PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, California on Saturday. As the name implies, this two-day expo is dedicated exclusively to PlayStation gaming. Although Sony reserves many of its big announcements for its E3 press conferences, a few big reveals have occurred at previous PlayStation Experiences, such as our first look at gameplay from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and the debut of Street Fighter V.

What can we expect from this year's PlayStation Experience? If Sony's listing for panels teases anything, we should be seeing two new games make their debuts. Along with panels for HIdeo Kojima's forthcoming Death Stranding and Guerrilla Games' Horizon Zero Dawn, Sony has times locked for two "unannounced panels," which usually means unannounced games. One of them is likely for Marvel vs. Capcom 4, which is rumored to debut at this show. What could the other one be? We'll have to wait to find out.

Production Company Behind Zero Dark Thirty, Sausage Party Expands Into Games

Annapurna Pictures has built a name for itself over the years, producing films including Zero Dark Thirty, Her, and Sausage Party. Today, the company has announced that it's expanding its focus into games, with the introduction of Annapurna Interactive. The new division's first projects include new games from the creators of Katamari Damacy and Monument Valley.

According to Annapurna's founder and CEO, Megan Ellison, this new branch comes from a longtime love of the medium. "I’ve had a great passion for video games for as long as I can remember," she says. "Growing up, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was one of my all-time favorites. My brother and I ran up quite a bill calling the 1-900 numbers for tips on those games, before the internet provided game-guides. The artistry and diversity of interactive storytelling is exciting and we look forward to exploring the limitless possibilities in gaming. We want to empower artists across this medium to make Annapurna Interactive their home and I believe we’ve assembled the perfect team to make that happen."

No Battlefield For 'A Couple Of Years' As EA Focuses On Star Wars Battlefront

No Battlefield For 'A Couple Of Years' As EA Focuses On Star Wars Battlefront

Blake Jorgensen, Electronic Arts' CFO, said at the NASDAQ 35th Investor Program that gamers won't see another Battlefield "for a couple of years" while EA focuses on the next Star Wars Battlefront title.

Looking at Jorgensen's comments literally, if EA put out another Battlefield title in two years, it would more or less fit with the series' timeline of numbered releases. Battlefield 3 came out in 2011, BF 4 in 2013, and the recent BF 1 this year. In between Battlefield 4 and BF 1 there was the Visceral-developed Battlefield Hardline – proving that the franchise can put out titles on an every year basis. However, there has been no indication from EA that it is planning a non-numbered Battlefield title.

The company has announced a new Star Wars Battlefront title for 2017, and judging by recent comments, we can expect it in the fall of the coming year. Jorgensen didn't go into specifics about the game, but did say that it will include "more of the content from the new movies."
