Producer Masachika Kawata Spills His Guts About Resident Evil 7

When Capcom first announced Resident Evil 7 earlier this year at E3, fans were taken aback by the new direction, which put players behind the eyes of an unknown character in a stealthier, less-bombastic tour through a horror-filled mansion. Despite Capcom’s insistence that RE 7 would remain true to the brand, fans had trouble recognizing their beloved survival horror franchise in early demos, which seemed inspired by games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent and P.T. We spoke with series producer Masachika Kawata to find out why this title deserves to be called Resident Evil.

Pokémon Sun And Moon's Second Global Mission Is Live

Up until January 9, trainers can use the Island Scan feature in Pokémon Sun and Moon in a collective attempt to find one million Pokémon. If all participants meet that goal, then everyone will receive 2,017 Festival Coins. However, even if trainers don't get close to that achievement, participants will be compensated with 217 Festival Coins.

The mission is live now, so all you have to do is hop into the game and start using the Island Scanner. The tool, which allows you to locate rare Pokémon, is unlocked once you use the QR reader five times and gain 100 points from it in a single day. To get started, you can use some of the codes below.

The first global mission tasked players with the challenge of catching 100 million Pokémon, and that goal was never met. Hopefully, this mission will be more likely to succeed considering the goal has dropped to one million Pokémon. Good luck!

Reader Discussion: What Did You Get This Year?

It's the holiday season, so whether you're celebrating one of the traditional associated holidays or one of your own creation, have you given or received anything cool this year?

Did you score a new console? Maybe a stocking full of games? Or maybe, in today's land of gaming, a stocking stuffed with season passes, DLC, and microtransaction gift cards?

Perhaps you even landed a vintage console and some old-school titles, a Darth Vader sleeping bag, or a philosophy book that delved into the ending of No Man's Sky.

Light Up A Marvel Fireplace For The Holidays

Light Up A Marvel Fireplace For The Holidays

A few days back, we laughed as we learned about Marvel’s plans for celebrating the holidays, and as many prepare for holiday get-togethers with friends and family, it’s worth highlighting the clever videos.

In each of ten distinct videos, Marvel is giving you and yours an alternative to the standard birchwood crackling digital fireplace channels that so many enjoy. Instead, the new videos highlight individual superheroes and their own holiday fireplaces.

In each case, Marvel has included both a broader room view and a close-up view of the crackling fireplace.  We get a look at the homes of several Avengers (Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor) who each seem to have  distinct setups. The videos also give us a fun twist on a fireplace on board the Guardians of the Galaxy’s spaceship; in lieu of a fireplace, the spacefaring heroes appear to use some sort of contained fusion reactor to celebrate. Finally, most of the fireplaces are for existing characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so we were intrigued to see the inclusion of Ms. Marvel’s New Jersey Home, a character who has not yet appeared in the MCU. In the comics, Ms. Marvel is Marvel’s first Muslim character to headline her own comic book, so it’s great to see her inclusion for families who might identify more with a similar hearth in their own home.

Brett Favre Returns For Madden Ultimate Team Glory

Brett Favre just can't stay away. The NFL all-time leader in interceptions is returning to the game – this time as a legend in Madden Ultimate team.

Multiple versions of Favre are now available, as are solo challenges of some of his standout moments featuring the QB (4th and 26?). The Limited Edition and Master versions of Favre activate a valuable Gunslinger chemistry, and the "4" chemistry comes into play when Favre passes to select former teammates, including Sterling Sharpe and Antonio Freeman.

More Custom Amiibos That Show Off Artists' Creativity

Every so often, I look at what the custom Amiibo community is doing and always come away impressed. Whether they're simple pallette swaps or full-on rebuilds of characters, the artists that make up the custom Amiibo community are always doing creative and interesting things with the base Nintendo character figures. From a beloved character from Undertale and an interesting crossover featuring two Sega characters to a simple repaint of Link to make him line up better with the striking art style of Twilight Princess, I find a lot to like each time I dive in.

Check out some recent creations I found while perusing the Amiibo Subreddit and the social media accounts of Custom Amiibo creators I've featured in the past. For more custom Amiibo creations, check out our previous posts here, here, here, and here.

Star Citizen Announces Amazon Lumberyard Tech Partnership

Cloud Imperium Games today shared details on the game engine it is using to power its sci-fi projects, Star Citizen and Squadron 42. Amazon Lumberyard is handling the heavy lifting of the games' computation and storage needs (through the Amazon Web Services Cloud).

““We’ve been working with Amazon for more than a year, as we have been looking for a technology leader to partner with for the long term future of Star Citizen and Squadron 42,” says Cloud Imperium CEO Chris Roberts in a press release. The developer praised Amazon Lumberyard for its back-end cloud integration and social capabilities.

While this is the first public declaration of the partnership, it’s clear that the development studio has been hard at work integrating its games with Amazon Lumberyard, as the upcoming 2.6 alpha release of Star Citizen is said to be utilizing the technology.

Reader Discussion: What’s Your Favorite Winter Game Setting?

As we all get tucked in for some well-deserved holiday gaming time over the next few weeks, we’re noticing a lot of game settings that like to dress up in winter wear for the season, like GTA Online and Destiny. But other games embrace their snowy landscapes throughout the season, like Lost Planet, the final sequences of Journey, the snowy frontier of Assassin’s Creed III, or any number of Star Wars levels set on Hoth.

So which are the most memorable snowy winter locales for you? Did you love your adventures hanging off glaciers in Rise of the Tomb Raider? Couldn’t get enough dragon fights in snowy Skyrim? Or maybe you’ve been having a blast zipping down the slopes in Ubisoft’s recent release of Steep?
