XCOM 2 Is About To Get More Difficult Thanks To Long War 2 Mod

Today Firaxis confirmed a mod called Long War 2 would be coming to XCOM 2 on PC. For those who don't remember, the original Long War mod drastically changed Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within, making it much more difficult and longer, while adding new techs, classes, and a fatigue system for you squad. Long War Studios, the team that created the original mod and which has since worked on smaller mods for XCOM 2, is collaborating with Firaxis on it.

Long War Studios also announced it's rebranding itself as Pavonis Interactive, and has launched a new website with the announcement. The site reveals that it's working on its own project as well – a strategy game called Terra Invicta, where you assemble a council of scientists, politicians, and military leaders to unite Earth's warring nations and defend it from an alien invasion. The project is listed as in "pre-Kickstarter development."

No other details have been revealed about Long War 2 at this time, but Pavonis' website says information will be released in the coming weeks at XCOM.com.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan Pulled From Digital Stores

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan Pulled From Digital Stores

Platinum's attempt at making a TMNT game was released back in May. Not even a year later and it's apparently been removed from all digital storefronts. The game is unavailable on PlayStation Store, Xbox Games, Amazon, and Steam as well as other storefronts.

Kyle Hilliard reviewed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan for us and didn't care too much for it, scoring it a 6 and saying:

Fighting, moving, and pulling off cooperative attacks as the Turtles is enjoyable, but it’s difficult to find fun in the world and routine in which they exist. Attempts to encourage replayability fall flat as the bonuses you receive do little to change your characters or make them stronger. A few moments of cooperative fun arise periodically, but after taking down the bosses, I had little desire to strap on a colorful mask and spend way too long taking down a boss I had already dispatched.

Battlefield 1's Next Custom Game Detailed, February Update Coming

Today a blog on the Battlefield 1 website detailed what's ahead in the coming weeks, discussing the next custom game and an update to hit next month for improvements.

Custom games are here to stay. Coming off of Armored Kill, a vehicle-friendly spin on Conquest, Battlefield 1's next custom game is called Bleed Out. Bleed Out comes out very soon — January 18 to be exact — and the blog post refers to it as, "a custom version of Rush where downed enemy soldiers respawn faster than usual and regenerative health is turned off."

In addition, it was confirmed that in February a new update with gameplay improvements will hit. No details were provided on exactly what will change, but it said the tweaks are based on constant testing and community feedback. The post said to expect specifics and full update notes in the near future.

Mobile Games Drive 40 Percent Revenue Jump For App Store

The mobile gaming market continues to grow. According to Apple, the App store brought in 20 billion dollars in revenue over the course of 2016.

Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, says that games like Pokemon Go and Super Mario Run were a large part of that revenue.  According to Schiller, Pokemon Go was the most downloaded app of the year.

For more on Pokemon Go, you can read Reiner's piece about his issues with the app here. If Super Mario Run is more your thing, you can read Kyle's review of it.

The Rock Is All About Terry Crews Voicing Overwatch's Doomfist

While we don't have any idea when or who the next Overwatch hero will be, there has been massive fervor around rumors that Terry Crews is the voice of the enigmatic (and probably tanky) Doomfist.

It all started when Terry Crews visited the Blizzard campus, getting the Twitter rumor mill going.

At this point, I'd probably be more surprised if Crews didn't end up voicing the iconic (and as of yet unannounced) hero. The hype train received even more fuel today when Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson threw in his support for a Crews/Doomfist combo.

Vive Adding A Subscription Option To Its Viveport Store

HTC has revealed plans to offer a subscription service to its Viveport app store. Viveport is the primary way that Vive users download games, videos, and other content for the company's Vive VR platform.

Speaking to Variety, Viveport president Rickard Steiber compared the option to Netflix. He also said that having a consistent base of customers that a subscription model offers might entice content providers who haven't yet committed to Viveport into developing for it. According to Steiber, there are more than 1,000 items on the storefront at this time, and that number is expected to triple by the end of the year.

HTC hasn't announced pricing for the monthly subscriptions at this time.
