Star Trek Online Launches New Season On January 26

Season 12 of Cryptic Studios' MMORPG take on Star Trek will commence on PC on January 26,  publisher Perfect World Entertainment announced today. The console version of the expansion will announced at a later date.

Perfect World laid out the details of the expansion in a press release:

Season 12 – Reckoning continues the mission from Star Trek Online’s latest update, Agents of Yesterday: Artifacts. Under the leadership of Captain Kuumaarke, the Lukari have set out on a journey to investigate some unusual activity in an unexplored region of the Alpha Quadrant. Upon further inspection, they discover data that suggests weaponized use of protomatter. Fearing the Tzenkethi are behind this, they put out a call for help to the Alliance, who tasks captains from across the galaxy to help the Lukari prevent a looming cataclysmic attack.

Rocket League Players Have Now Battled In More Than 1 Billion Games

Rocket League Players Have Now Battled In More Than 1 Billion Games

Rocket League continues to pull in fans with its clever blend of soccer and radio-controlled-car action. To what degree, however, may surprise you.

More than 1 billion (yes, with a "B") matches have been played since its July 2015 release, including 31 million matches of the Rumble mode, which launched in September 2016. Those billion matches are split between the game's 25 million players, with half of them being played competitively. Thirty-three percent were casual games, 11 percent were alternative modes, and the final 6 percent were in private matches.

That means more than 421 centuries of human effort have been poured into the game. Yikes.

Listing Provides A Few More Details On Telltale's Guardians Of The Galaxy Game

Last month, Telltale officially announced that it was working on a game based on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. If a retailer listing is to be believed, we may have a few tiny slivers of additional information on what to expect, too.

According to a GameStop product listing for the game (Game Informer's parent company), it's an all-new story. You'd be forgiven for saying that it sounds fairly familiar – at least in the broad strokes that are listed:

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series delivers a brand new story of the universe's unlikeliest heroes, the rag-tag band of outlaws who go by the names Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of the Guardians has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands. From Earth to the Milano to Knowhere and beyond, and set to the beat of awesome music, this five-part episodic series puts you in the rocket-powered boots of Star-Lord in an original Guardians adventure, told in the unique and award-winning Telltale style, where your decisions and actions will drive the path of the story you experience.

As Rift Trial Gets Underway, Oculus Slams ZeniMax Lawsuit As 'Wasteful'

As the court case gets underway between Oculus and ZeniMax Media regarding the alleged misappropriation of intellectual property, Oculus representatives are still firing public salvos across the bow of its opponent.

Today Oculus issued a statement to Upload VR, saying, "We’re eager to present our case in court. Oculus and its founders have invested a wealth of time and money in VR because we believe it can fundamentally transform the way people interact and communicate. We’re disappointed that another company is using wasteful litigation to attempt to take credit for technology that it did not have the vision, expertise, or patience to build.”

Inventor Elon Musk Can't Get Enough Of Overwatch, Either

When he's not developing a new fleet of electric cars, building spaceships, or brainstorming a next generation high-speed transportation system, Elon Musk likes to unwind like we all do, by powering up a video game.

In an interview with Y Combiner's Sam Altman, Musk shared the games he's been playing the most. It should come as a surprise to no one that he's digging Blizzard's Overwatch, which just won Game Informer's 2016 Game of the Year Award. He also shared his love for Hearthstone, the original Deus Ex, and story based games. You can watch the chat here:

You can either load your Xbox 360 disc into the Xbox One, or purchase them from the marketplace.

Buy New Marvel Superhero Comics, Get Free Digital Back Issues

Buy New Marvel Superhero Comics, Get Free Digital Back Issues

Since 2012, most of Marvel Comics' physical superhero books included a code that gifted the reader a digital version of the same issue they just purchased. Rather than giving readers two versions of the same comic, Marvel is instituting a new digital code program that gives readers two or more back issues of various mainline superhero books. This new offering launches in February, and changes week by week. If you purchase two new releases in a week, they will give you the same code for the same back issues.

In a written statement, David Gabriel, Marvel Publishing's senior vice president in sales, said the new program was created to give "fans more value per dollar spent," as well as "free entry points for current on sale collected editions."

As such, one of the first codes to be released gives people issue zero of Civil War II, which syncs up with Marvel's delivery of a digital trade of the full series later that month. This new program is meant to drive sales, but also gives readers an element of mystery that they didn't have week to week. I never entered codes in the past (and instead gifted some to friends), but will now enter them to see what books pop up. It's almost like opening up a Loot Crate.

Pokémon Sun & Moon Players Blow Second Straight Global Event

Pokémon Sun & Moon Players Blow Second Straight Global Event

After players failed to meet the goal for the first global event in Pokémon Sun & Moon, developer Game Freak said it would lessen the requirements for the second occasion. Despite this gesture, the players yet again couldn't pull it off.

For the second global event that started January 6 and ran until January 9, trainers were tasked with using the Island Scan feature to find one million Pokémon, then catch or defeat them. If all participants met that goal, then everyone would have received 2,017 Festival Coins. But the community only came up with 661,000, again falling well short of their goal. As a consolation, participants received a prize of 217 Festival Coins.

During the first event players were challenged to capture 100 million Pokémon, but only came up with 16 million.

Gears Of War 4 January Update Adds Classic Maps, Characters, Weapon Skins, And Matchmaking Improvements

Microsoft and The Coalition have announced a host of new content coming with its January 2017 update. The Series 2 content update is set to include two fan-favorite legacy maps and nearly 300 new cards to collect within the game to unlock characters and weapon skins.

The two legacy maps are Clocktower, which debuted in the original Gears of War, and Blood Drive, which made its first appearance in Gears of War 2. Blood Drive blends the designs of the original Gears of War 2 layout with the Gears of War 3 remake, while Clocktower gives nods to past games through its visual aesthetics.

As part of The Coalition's attempts to keep the player base unified, it has made all downloadable Gears of War 4 maps available to players for free. Both maps are free to all players beginning on January 17, but Season Pass holders can access them starting today using the Developer playlist. You can see flyovers of these two maps below.
