Fortnite's Latest Season Features A Watery Wasteland

Fortnite's latest season, Splashdown, kicked off this morning. While it doesn't maintain the tsunami wall of water that replaced the storm at the end of season two, it does add some significant changes to the game overall. Here's hoping you like to swim.

As the name implies, Splashdown's big focus is on water. The map has been flooded, which affects things on a fundamental level. Many familiar locations, such as the Grotto, have been at least partially submerged. Fortunately, there are a lot more boats scattered around the map, in case you need to get somewhere faster. The water has also attracted some angry sharks, which will chase after players and even chomp into their builds. If you have a fishing rod, you can catch one of these guys and ride around.

Last season introduced a new character, Maya, who could be customized by completing various challenges. Splashdown incorporates a similar element, though you'll be modifying an umbrella instead of a character skin. And where players were able to unlock a Deadpool skin by completing challenges, this time around you can unlock an Aquaman skin.

Pokémon Smile Is Here To Remind Your Kids To Brush Their Teeth

Today's Pokémon Presents video gave us all kinds of unique reveals and announcements, but perhaps the most unexpected was Pokémon Smile. This app on mobile devices expands Pokémon's offerings geared toward younger children. By turning brushing your teeth into a fun activity, Pokémon Smile hopes to encourage good dental hygiene among the franchise's youngest fans.

Parents can set Pokémon Smile to send notifications up to three times per day to remind them it's time for their kids to brush their teeth. Then, using your mobile device's camera, it depicts cavity-causing bacteria for the player to defeat and catch Pokémon. The app guides kids through how to brush their teeth effectively, ensuring they hit all parts of their mouth.  In total, players can catch more than 100 different Pokémon species using Pokémon Smile.

The app also uses the camera to allow kids to collect fun in-app headwear to display on themselves virtually while they play/brush. In addition to how many times a day the notification comes through, parents can also set the duration of each toothbrushing session between one and three minutes.

Mega Evolutions Coming To Pokémon Go

Mega Evolutions Coming To Pokémon Go

The Pokémon Company and Niantic have announced that Mega Evolutions are coming to the still-popular Pokémon Go. Mega Evolutions were first introduced in Pokémon X & Y on 3DS and continued with Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, but were phased out for Sun & Moon and Sword & Shield. Now, they return to deliver new gameplay opportunities in Pokémon Go battles.

Mega Evolutions allow certain Pokémon to temporarily evolve into more powerful forms during battles. Unlike the subsequent Dynamax found in Sword & Shield, only select Pokémon can Mega Evolve. Currently, there are more than 40 Pokémon species that can Mega Evolve, including Blastoise, Gyarados, and Salamence. In addition, Charizard and Mewtwo each have two Mega Evolutions; in the mainline RPGs, the version they Mega Evolved into was determined by which game you bought, but there's no word on how that will be determined in Pokémon Go.

In addition, to celebrate the launch of Pokémon Sword & Shield's first expansion, The Isle of Armor, Galarian Farfetch'd is now appearing in Pokémon Go. Pokémon Go players will also receive special avatar items based on the clothing your trainer wears in the Pokémon Sword & Shield expansions.

New Pokémon Snap Announced For Switch

More than two decades ago, Nintendo 64 players were treated to a new kind of Pokémon experience. 1999's Pokémon Snap gave players an on-rails shooter of sorts that tasked them with photographing Game Freak's iconic creatures in their natural habitats. While we've seen Virtual Console ports of that original game, as well as photography minigames in subsequent titles, Snap enthusiasts have been waiting 21 years for a new game in the series. Today, The Pokémon Company finally told those players that they don't have to wait much longer, as New Pokémon Snap is in development for Nintendo Switch.

New Pokémon Snap game is based on its namesake and will take trainers to islands full of beaches, jungles, and other locales to research various Pokémon, but it is an all-new game developed by Bandai Namco Studios. Using their trusty camera, trainers will once again document these creatures in their natural habitats to fill out their Photodex. In addition, players will discover new Pokémon expressions and behaviors.

Pokémon Café Mix Is A Free-To-Start Puzzle Game On Switch And Mobile Devices

The Pokémon Company has announced a new puzzle game for Switch, iOS, and Android. Pokémon Café Mix tasks players with linking Pokémon together by grabbing and swirling their icon and dragging them next to a matching icon. Unlike other match-style puzzle games, the icons aren't based on a grid. Once icons are matched, they will be cleared from the puzzle.

You play the owner of a café Pokémon visit, and it's your job to work alongside Pokémon employees to make drinks and food for your customers. The Pokémon on your staff have special Café Skills that can be used to help you out as you try to complete the puzzles. Each time you finish a puzzle, you're able to serve an order to a customer. As you serve drinks and dishes to Pokémon, you increase your friendship level with them. When you complete a certain number of puzzles, your café can be upgraded with new tools or areas, which may lure new Pokémon into your café.

Google Introduces Less Expensive Stadia Premiere Edition Bundle

Google has announced a price drop on Stadia Premiere Edition, which was previously set at $129.
