The Godzilla Anime Feature Receives First Trailer

Godzilla is getting the anime treatment in this full-length, CGI kaiju movie.

Produced by Toho, the company which spawned the King of the Monsters, Godzilla: Monster Planet is the first official full-length animated film in the character's storied history.

Monster Planet centers around a group of humans who abandon Earth after it's become overrun with giant monsters. But when the new planet humanity has been living on becomes uninhabitable, Haruo, our presumed protagonist, resolves to return to Earth and gathers a crew to take back the planet. However, in their time away, Earth has aged 20,000 years, and is now the playground of the fearsome Godzilla.

Overwatch Lead Designer Jeff Kaplan Shares Plans In Parody Video

YouTuber dinoflask has edited together an impressive collection of snippets from Jeff Kaplan’s regular updates to the Overwatch community. Many players of Blizzard’s shooter have come to appreciate Kaplan’s regular video updates, which offer additional insight into the creative process and decision-making at the development studio. But in this case, the lead designer’s words are being used to communicate some sentiments that we suspect don’t exactly match with Blizzard’s communication strategy.

Destiny 2 Trailer Reveals Open Beta For Later This Month

Destiny 2 Trailer Reveals Open Beta For Later This Month

The Destiny 2 open console beta has a date, but that date is different depending on your pre-order status. All players are able to check out the beta content during the weekend of July 21 through July 23. But if you pre-order, you can expect a few additional days with the content. Pre-order on PS4, and you gain early access on July 18. Pre-order on Xbox One, and your early access starts on July 19. No word on when PC players may get a taste of the action.

The beta announcement comes along with a trailer that you can investigate below. Based on what is shown off in the video, it appears that Bungie is planning to show off much of the same content in the beta as was revealed at E3 a few weeks ago. You can expect to play the first story mission, a cooperative strike set on the destination world of Nessus, and try out competitive play in the Countdown game type.

That line-up of activities should give a brief taste of many of the important activities on offer in Destiny 2, but it also is a different beta experience than what many players may have been expecting; the Destiny 1 beta offered an extended section of the open world for exploration, and the opportunity to level up your Guardian several times to get a sense of progression. It’s likely those elements of Destiny 2 are being held back until the game’s actual launch.

Amazing Fan-Made Voltron And Iron Giant Legos Are Up For Review

Amazing Fan-Made Voltron And Iron Giant Legos Are Up For Review

Since 2011, Lego has been turning the best fan-made creations into official sets that hit retail shelves. The first Minecraft, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, The Big Bang Theory, Wall E, and Doctor Who sets were all fan-made. Thousands of sets flood the Lego Ideas website each year, and hundreds receive great fan support, but only a select few make it through Lego's review process and onto retail shelves.

Lego is currently evaluating 12 different sets, including one based on the 1999 Warner Bros film The Iron Giant, and another for the popular Netflix animated series Voltron. The Iron Giant set consists of 2,023 Lego pieces, and would come with five minifigures. The Voltron set doesn't list the number of pieces, but it can be broken down and reassembled as five individual lions. In robot form, Voltron stands in at 16" and weighs 1kg.

I'd like to see The Iron Giant set make it to stores first, but the 2,000 pieces make it a near impossibility, as it would likely sell around $300.

Doomfist Punches His Way Onto Overwatch PTR

For months now, Overwatch fans have been predicting the arrival of Doomfist into the game, and today those suspicions were confirmed. Doomfist is now live on the Overwatch PTR (public test region). Other than offering an opportunity to start getting to know the character and his powers, that news also means we can likely expect Doomfist to arrive in the actual live game at some point in the coming weeks; that’s been the general schedule for previous character launches.

Doomfist is an offense hero, joining the likes of Reaper, Genji, and Tracer in dealing damage and pushing forward on objectives. Doomfist uses cybernetics to maintain superiority on the battlefield. He wields a hand cannon at range, but he can also slam into the ground to knock enemies into the air. Doomfist also wields a Rocket Punch for some up-close melee destruction. His most devastating attack allows him to leap out of view and then slam into a large area (and hopefully a large number of enemies) using his Meteor Strike.

Interested in trying Doomfist out for yourself? You need to play Overwatch on PC, and then you can follow Blizzard’s instructions to gain access.

Shadow Of War Lets You Face Your Ultimate Nemesis From Shadow Of Mordor

A free update to Shadow of Mordor introduces the Nemesis Forge, which allows players to bring their unfinished business from Shadow of Mordor into their new Shadow of War journey.

Players were given the opportunity to build their own unique stories in Shadow of Mordor, including personal vendettas against some of the more troublesome orcs. Rage-fueled rampages resulted in death after death for the player, while your nemesis continued to grow in strength, making victory ever-more difficult. For those who never bested their respective nemesis, now is the perfect opportunity for vengeance, with the patch allowing players to import their highest-ranking nemesis into Shadow of War.

To help you achieve retribution, the Nemesis Forge also identifies your most loyal follower and places them among your ranks in Shadow of War.

Pokémon Go Celebrates One Year With A Pikachu Wearing Ash's Hat

Pokémon Go is already celebrating a year on the market with the new raid system (you can find our impressions here), but Niantic is adding another wrinkle to the celebrations beginning today.

Starting today, July 6, at 1 p.m. PT, and going until July 24, 1:00 p.m. PT, you will be able to catch a Pikachu wearing Ash's iconic hat form the anime. In the past, these special hat-wearing Pikachus extend to Raichu, as well, so presumably, an evolved Pikachu with an Ash hat, will continue to wear Ash's hat.

Additionally, an Anniversary Box, with Incubators, Max Revives, Ultra Balls, and Raid Passes will be available at a discount in the shop.

Nintendo Switch Online Functionality Shown During Splatoon 2 Direct

Nintendo Switch's full online functionality likely won't roll out until 2018, when the monthly subscription service is offered, but Splatoon 2 players will be able to give it a test run this fall. During today's lengthy Splatoon 2 Direct video presentation, Nintendo gave a detailed walkthrough of the game's online component, including how it tethers to the Nintendo Switch Online's mobile app, which releases alongside the game on July 21.

Splatoon 2 uses a service through Nintendo Switch Online called SplatNet 2. Players can use it on their mobile device to invite other players to join private, league, Salmon Run, and Splatfest battles. The app can also be used to keep track of stage schedules, view stats for the last 50 matches, and check your lifetime "inkage." The amount of ink you spray is then compared to real world locations.

The one example we see of the inkage tracker is comparing one player's performance to the Great Pyramid of Giza. Most importantly, the app allows players to communicate via voice chat. In the footage shown, Nintendo makes this process seem fairly straightforward, with teammates automatically entering a private lobby together.
