Report: Capcom Preparing More Switch Games After Ultra Street Fighter II Success

During its latest financial report brief, Capcom revealed Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers sold above the company's expectations. As a result, the company plans to start preparing more Switch titles.

As The Wall Street Journal's Takashi Mochizuki reports, the updated, $40 port of Street Fighter II (which was a decent one) sold over 450,000 copies during the first quarter of the financial year, according to the company. In its official earnings report, the company says the game "made an excellent start and proved to be a smash hit."

Because of the title's unexpected success, the company is "starting to prepare" additional Switch games. Whether this means it will begin porting more of its past games to the console, develop ports of its current titles, or create new games is unclear.

Niantic Delays Upcoming Pokémon Go Live Events In Europe

Niantic has postponed four in-person Pokémon Go events in Europe, the company announced today on the official Pokémon Go website. The "Safari Zone" events scheduled for August 5 in Copenhagen, Denmark and Prague, The Czech Republic and August 12 in Stockholm, Sweden and Amsterdam, The Netherlands have been delayed until "later in the Fall," according to the company.

In its statement, the company said the delay was "In order to guarantee the best possible gameplay experience for European Trainers." The news comes in the wake of the Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago, in which attendees were unable to play the game they came for, were offered refunds and $100 in in-game coins for traveling to the event, and for which Niantic is being sued by a number of dissatisfied attendees.

The company also stated it will not be offering "compensation for arrangements people may have made to attend the event." Although the events will no longer be taking place in early August, "rarely seen Pokémon will still appear in certain European cities for a brief time."

What To Watch This Weekend: Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Super Smash Bros. Melee, And Call Of Duty

This weekend is light on the esports, but that won't last. Next month will host both the Call of Duty World League finals and Dota 2's International, so we'll have more than our share of things to watch in the coming weeks. Still, Defend the North and Get On My Level should have something to keep anyone into fighting games entertained all weekend long.

This weekend's Defend the North is the first major post-Evo FGC tournament, so make sure to catch Street Fighter V, Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Injustice 2, Tekken 7, and more in New York this weekend. (Streams and Schedule)

If Super Smash Bros. is more your thing, this year's Get On My Level tournament is your go-to event this weekend, as major talent for both Melee and For Wii U. will be in attendance. (Stream / Schedule)

Gravity Rush Meets Let It Die In Upcoming Event

Gravity Rush 2, Sony's PS4 open-world platformer starring everyone's favorite gravity witch, is apparently crossing over with Grasshopper's free-to-play roguelike Let It Die. The announcement was made at GungHo Festival 2017, an event celebrating Grasshopper's parent company, GungHo Online Entertainment. Full details will come on July 31st, but this isn't the first head scratcher Gravity Rush has been involved with.

Recently, protagonist Kat gained the ability to don the costume of Nier: Automata's 2B as she flips, flies, and falls around the the floating city she protects. A Let It Die crossover might work similarly, give Kat a new costume to wear, but that's all just speculation for now.

You can check out our Gravity Rush 2 review, or our Let It Die review, while we imagine how cool Kat would look dressed like Uncle Death riding a skateboard through the clouds.

The Final Neon Genesis Evangelion Movie Gets A Teaser

The Final Neon Genesis Evangelion Movie Gets A Teaser

Five years after the previous Evangelion movie, nearly ten years since the Rebuild series started, and just over twenty years since the show ended, the final Evangelion movie gets its first teaser.

The Rebuild movies, remakes intended to both take another pass at Evangelion with a proper budget and dramatically alter the way it was told, have been a roller coaster of ups and downs since release. The next movie, 3.0+1.0, is intended to put a final cap on a series that has enthralled and befuddled an entire generation of anime fans.

While we have no idea what the teaser means, it at least confirms that work has begun on the movie, which saw a long delay due to director Hideaki Anno's work on the 2016 movie, Shin Godzilla. Anno also cited personal struggles while working on the previous Evangelion movie contributing to his need for a break from the series.

Weekend Warrior – Let's Make This The First Result When You Google Imran Khan

This Weekend Warrior is very special, as it marks the first time our wonderful new west coast news editor, Imran Khan, must divulge his weekend plans for the entertainment of our readers. Thanks, Imran! If you haven't gotten acquainted with Imran, go check out his introductory blog post. And boy am I glad Imran is here so we can pump up his search engine optimization.

Imran Khan (@imranzomg) – This weekend, I am going to continue plugging away bit-by-bit at Tales of Berseria, which I’m actually really digging. I’ve also got more Splatoon 2 to play, both single-player and multiplayer. Finally, inspired by Shea overcoming Persona 5 once and for all, I might just finish up whatever I’ve got left in that game. I assume it’s not that much, but that game has made a fool out of me when I've said that before.

Kyle Hilliard (@KyleMHilliard) – I’m probably going to see The Emoji Movie. The kid is super excited about it, and I like going to movies with her – even bad ones – so it should definitely be something. As far as stuff I want to do goes, some Pokémon Go will probably happen this weekend. I still need Articuno. I also started watching One Punch Man, which I have been enjoying, so I will probably continue with that, and I would also like to start Prey.

Was Toad A Jerk To Mario In The Eighties?

Was Toad A Jerk To Mario In The Eighties?

Early sprite art was an exercise in interpretation. What one person saw as a headdress, other people saw as a face. Over on Reddit's r/gaming, that principle of interpretation is having people questioning whether Toad is someone you want being around your kids.

Most likely, Toad is just holding his palms out in celebration of no longer being kidnapped, but it's not hard to interpret that another way. In this interpretation, Toad doesn't really care about Mario's trials and tribulations in having to go to another castle for the Princess, he's just glad to be out.

Actually, that raises a different question: when Mario frees Toad, does he just walk backwards through the world Mario just went through? Is Mario even making sure he gets home alright?
