PlayStation 4 Firmware 5.00 Is Out

Sony have released their 5.00 firmware for the PlayStation 4, seven weeks after they started beta testing it with preview program participants.

The new update, which has minor features compared to the whole number firmware revisions from prior years, is available to download and install today on your PlayStation 4. The main feature being advertised in this update is the way family accounts are handled, with multiple adult accounts being able to oversee child accounts, including parental controls. PS4 Pro users can also now stream in 1080p and 60 frames per second.

Previous updates have included things like Suspend/Resume, uploading clips to Twitter, broadcasting to Youtube, folders, and more. The PS4 started with firmware version 1.50 at launch in November 2013 and averages a firmware update per year since. The somewhat muted feature list of the 5.00 update at least hopefully means there won't be any problems or bugs now that it has been released.

Nintendo Opens Everybody's Message Community To Help Close Out The Miiverse

Nintendo Opens Everybody's Message Community To Help Close Out The Miiverse

Miiverse is closing in November, but Nintendo has opened one final community that lasts until October 11 to collect Miiverse memories from its remaining fellowship.

The Everybody's Message Community, opened today and lasting for a week, only allows hand-drawn messages of users collecting their experiences of the soon-to-be-closed Nintendo message board system since the Wii U's launch in 2012.

The Miiverse was Nintendo's attempt at a social network that launched on the Wii U and later came to the 3DS, only to be unceremoniously dropped for the Switch and is closing on November 7. It was integrated into many games, from level drawings in New Super Mario Bros. U to full-on level sharing in Super Mario Maker, though Nintendo says that most game-integrated features will remain despite Miiverse shutting down.

Dead Orbit Wins Destiny 2's First Faction Rally

Dead Orbit Wins Destiny 2's First Faction Rally

There can be only one. Today marks the end of Destiny 2's first Faction Rally event, and after a week of Guardians pledging and fighting for the three factions, Bungie has announced a winner: Dead Orbit.

Those who pledged to the winning faction last week can race over to the tower, which has been decked out in Dead Orbit colors and banners, in order to get a legendary reward from Dead Orbit leader Arach Jalaal. Dead Orbit players can pick up the legendary scout rifle Haunted Earth for only 1,000 glimmer, while all other players can pay the not-so-reasonable price of 50,000 glimmer to get the weapon. Players will be able to get Haunted Earth for the next seven days as part of Victory Week, so make sure to nab that scout rifle, Dead Orbiters! Of course, clever players who have three different characters pledged to each of the factions will always be able to get the legendary reward for cheap. Let's keep that on the downlow though.

Only the winning faction's weapon is available for purchase now that the event is over, but players can still cash in any faction tokens they may have for additional rewards from their particular faction.

The nights grow cold And monsters appear
A great evil gathers
And Halloween draws near...

Andrew House Leaves Sony After 27 Years

Andrew House, the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has stepped down from his post, ending a 27 year run at Sony.

House started at Sony in 1990, helping to usher in the popularity of the PlayStation brand throughout his tenure. House became co-CEO of SIE, and eventually sole CEO when Kazuo Hirai got promoted to the head of the company in 2011, overseeing the PlayStation 4's meteoric rise over the last few years.

Fans might best remember House from his E3 appearances, often coming out to explain the newest PlayStation initiative or feature to the crowd. When Sony released a video announcing that Kojima was partnering exclusively with Sony on a new game, House was the talk of online communities for his introduction in stunningly natural Japanese. You can watch that video below to reminisce just a little bit.

Remothered: Tormented Fathers Early Access Release Date Announced

Darril Arts and Stormind Games' Remothered: Tormented Fathers, an upcoming survival horror game, is heading to Early Access on Steam as of October 31. It will remain in Early Access for a few months up until its official release.

Remothered: Tormented Fathers puts you in the shoes of a woman named Rosemary, who is investigating the death of a young girl. She heads the manor owned by a retired notary, who is connected to the case and has secrets to hide. When Rosemary reveals her true intentions, all hell breaks loose, and she must find a way to escape the mansion unharmed.

To do so, you have to solve puzzles, evade stalker enemies (without the ability to fight them off outside of some quicktime events), and explore the home for pertinent clues. Audio cues notify the player that a stalker is near, and once that happens, your only choices are to run or hide.
