Test Chamber — Only If

about X hours ago from

Join Andrew Reiner, Daniel Tack, and Jeff Cork as they romp through Creability's upcoming puzzle/adventure title, Only if.

The title starts off mysterious and travels down a strange, dark path as an unidentified antagonist presents the player with a steam of bizarre tasks and puzzles. The player is presented with virtually no information at the onset, and travel through strange scenarios and environments.

There are few commands that a player can issue and no visible inventory, so there's a real feeling of immersion as you move from puzzle to puzzle. if Myst met Saw and Gone Home, it would look something like this.

Super Replay - Resident Evil

Super Replay - Resident Evil

Today marks the 16th anniversary of the infamous Spencer Mansion incident. On July 24, 1998, members of the Raccoon City Police Department's S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team entered a biohazardous, trap-filled mansion nestled in a dense forest of the Arklay Mountains. Many of the RPD's finest died battling the biological abominations roaming the huge estate's dusty halls. To commemorate this important chapter in the Resident Evil series and the horror genre, we're revisiting both the original 1996 PlayStation version of Resident Evil, as well as the excellent 2002 GameCube remake.

For this Super Replay, we'll be switching off between the two versions of the game beginning with the PlayStation original. Each subsequent episode will switch back and forth between the two versions. If you're new to the series, expect a lot of cautious crawling through the monster-infested mansion, careful conservation of ammo and health, and chunks of backtracking to unlock new areas. And as with every playthrough of a Resident Evil game, there are bound to be surprises and close calls that rattle even experienced zombie hunters like us.

Dota 2’s International 4 Was Amazing, But A Failure For Spectators

about X hours ago from

The finals of this year’s $10.9 million dollar International 4 tournament, a best of five bout between Newbee and ViCi Gaming, was a display of unparalleled skill, practice, and preparation from both teams.

The issue is, when it comes to the unwavering win-fast or don’t win at all strategy that ViCi was employing, the final stages of the grand tournament came off as something less interesting to watch than a few random public matchmaking teams squaring off. For Dota 2’s first time to shine on ESPN, this back-to-back tower down GG spectacle didn’t display any confidence in the watchability of one of the most exciting games on PC.

It was incredibly disheartening to watch the so-called “Deathball” strategy of ViCi run into a brick wall in games 2-4, with no adaptation being employed between rounds. Same characters, same results. Games decided in five and over in fifteen. For a spectator, we didn’t get to see much of or any of the signature teamplay and epic 5v5 fights that make the game and the genre one of the most watchable eSports out there. It was a far cry from the team battles that made things like “The Play” representative of incredible Dota 2 play from a spectator perspective.

10 Characters That Will Never Be In Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes

about X hours ago from

Following today's announcement of a Guardians of the Galaxy playset for Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes, I wondered how much fun it would be to play as Groot, a somewhat slow moving tree character. I asked a couple of coworkers what they thought of the announcement and the possibility of playing as Groot, and we quickly found ourselves talking about Marvel Comics characters that should never be included in a game. We're not saying Groot is going to be a horrible character; Avalanche found ways to make Mike Wazowski a fun playable character in the first Disney Infinity game, and we're certain they will do the same with Groot. The weirdness of Groot as a character is what set us down this path.

Most of the characters we discussed have rightfully been locked away in the past, never to return. Some of them, however, have come back in surprising ways. After you look at our selections, we'd love to hear of the horrible characters you remember from Marvel Comics' past.

Our Top 25 List Snubs

When you make a list, you’re bound to upset a few people. That’s true whether you’re calling out the best Xbox 360 games, PS3 titles, or Wii releases, as we’ve been doing. Everyone has an opinion; if you’re not putting a particular game too high in your rankings, you’re placing it too low. Even worse, there's the distinct possibility that you've left a deserving game off entirely. Cutting our lists down to 25 entries was a painful process, and nearly all of the editors championed a personal favorite but failed.

That’s where our snubs list comes in. Here’s where the Game Informer editors are able to not only call out what they see as our biggest oversights, but articulate why they believe their favorite games should have made the cut.

Dissecting The Elements And Influences Of Battleborn

Dissecting The Elements And Influences Of Battleborn

In 2009, Gearbox's hit Borderlands set itself apart from other action games by combining the fast-paced combat of first-person shooters, the varied skills and progression of RPGs, and the endless loot of dungeon crawlers into a new and unique experience. For Battleborn, the developer is once again blending ideas and elements of a number of genres. We break down the core components that simultaneously make Battleborn feel familiar and unique.

Team-based Competitive MatchesWhat It's Like: Ever since the inception of team deathmatch, first-person shooters have been mixing cooperative and competitive play. Battleborn's five-player team size encourages and rewards groups who play together as a tight-knit squad, similar to shooter series like Battlefield and Rainbow Six, as well as the multiplayer offerings of the Left 4 Dead series. Battleborn's Incursion mode, which we played during our visit to Gearbox, was structured similarly to MOBAs like League of Legends and Dota 2, tasking players with taking down the opposing team's base and a pair of A.I.-controlled mechs in between.

Hearthstone: Curse of Naxxramas Arachnid Quarter Guide

Better call John Goodman, because players may experience a wave of arachnophobia as they take on the challenges in Hearthstone’s first free wing of the Curse of Naxxramas Adventure. While the standard-difficulty encounters and class challenges are fairly simple and designed to streamline new card acquisition, the heroic-level encounters can be quite difficult. Let’s take a look at what you’ll receive in this wing, and some of the best ways to approach the heroic bosses.

The best thing about the Naxxramas encounters is that card unlocks only require taking on normal difficulty encounters and class challenges. Heroic difficulty is reserved for a grand card back unlock, making it completely optional for players who want to go the extra mile.

Looking Ahead To The Games Of 2015

about X hours ago from

Whether part of an intended schedule or due to a delay, the games of 2015 are looking good. We’ve compiled a list of next year’s games, so you know what the future looks like for your platform of choice.

We’ll be updating this list throughout the rest of 2014, so check back with us as your future backlog begins to pile up. We're being conservative about some of the titles that were shown without gameplay, so if you see something you think should be on the list, let us know. We'll check back in and keep the conversation going.

Batman: Arkham Knight (Xbox One, PS4, PC) - 2015Rocksteady is donning cape and cowl for one last go at the Arkham series. This final title in the series will be on PC and new-gen hardware only, so if you want to see who is under the Arkham Knight’s mask (no, the title doesn’t refer to Batman), you’ll have to upgrade.
