The Features Left On The Sidelines Of The Last-Gen Sports Games

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are finally picking up steam, but plenty of gamers still don't have either of those systems. Furthermore, most of the upcoming sports titles are still coming out for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The only major sports games sitting on the sideline this year on the older platforms are NBA Live 16 and Rory McElroy PGA Tour. What are the differences between the old-gen and new-gen versions of your favorite sports franchise? We looked into these upcoming series to find out.

The old-gen versions of these games won't look as good as the ones on the PS4 or Xbox One, of course, but here are the other differences we've found so far.

Spoiler Alert: My Favorite Easter Egg In Batman: Arkham Knight

Spoiler Alert: My Favorite Easter Egg In Batman: Arkham Knight

I can't reiterate this enough: SPOILER alert! The small clip of footage included in this article ruins a big plot twist, as well as the game's craziest fight. Proceed at your own risk.

Odds are, many of you may not have thought twice about the moment of note. It happens in the middle of a fight pitting Batman against an endless sea of Joker hallucinations. Batman's sanity is slipping away, and he isn't pulling his punches anymore. He's using lethal force against his combatants.

In the final moments of this conflict, Batman mimics one of his most feared adversaries: Bane. He raises a downed Joker foe over his head and snaps his spine in two over his knee. This is the same move Bane used in the classic Knightfall comic-book series that knocked Batman out of commission. I may be wrong here, but I believe the back breaker finisher is only used once throughout all of Arkham Knight.

Missing In Action: The Absent Crew Of Tacoma Space Station

Missing In Action: The Absent Crew Of Tacoma Space Station

In Gone Home, Fullbright introduced us to a family and we discovered more about them by searching their belongings. The studio's latest project, Tacoma, has us learning about an entire space station's crew.

Space hasn't changed the fact that these are people who have everyday problems while harboring their own secrets and insecurities. Being locked on a space station also comes with its own sets of problems: How do these people deal with the isolation? When you take a job on Tacoma, it's a yearlong stint, so you're stuck with the same people day in, day out. "It's like if you were housemates with people, but could never leave the house," says Fullbright co-founder Steve Gaynor.

Tensions are bound to rise, but complicated relationships aren't the only intriguing threads. You also find out what brought these different characters to the space station in the first place. After all, Tacoma isn't exactly the cream of the crop for job postings. "You're stuck on the most remote, least cushy posting in the whole system for a year at a time, stuck in one spot," Gaynor says. "Think of the crew in those terms of, 'Who ends up here and why?' It's gotta be people that are competent, but they had no choice but to take this posting."

Test Chamber – Rocket League's Intern Duel

about X hours ago from

In an attempt to cut off anybody that might complain about soccer being boring, developer Psyonix has added turbo-fueled cars wearing extravagant accessories for their new game Rocket League. Out now on PC and PS4, the game offers an interesting new take on the sport and lets players face off in a 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4  competition. We gathered two of Game Informer's interns Christian Belland and Hershall Cook to face off in a 1v1 match. Two interns enter, two interns probably leave.

Watch the video below to see the game in action and learn why tricked-out cars make everything better.

Test Chamber – We Explore The Impressive Fan-Created Free Mod, Portal Stories: Mel

about X hours ago from

Valve's games have always been playgrounds for the motivated mod community, and Portal 2 is no exception. Portal Stories: Mel follows the titular Mel as she explores an Aperture Science laboratory of the past. Taking place in 1952, the game features about 22 new levels, original music, and a completely original story all created by fans.

Join Ben Hanson and myself, two of the biggest Portal fans in the office, as we play through the game's opening and are impressed by the amount of detail in the world and puzzles, and are less impressed by the voice acting.

Portal Stories: Mel is free, granted you have Portal 2, and you can grab it by heading here.

Collecting All Batman: Arkham Knight’s Riddler Trophies? Read This First

about X hours ago from

Over the past few days, I decided to do something dumb: collect all 243 Riddler trophies in Batman: Arkham Knight. I never bothered tracking them down in the previous Arkham games, but I figured it would be a fun way to extend the life of a game I was enjoying. One wasted holiday weekend later, I’m living proof that dreams can come true. Along the way, I learned a few things that are bound to make life easier for my fellow completionists.

I’m not going to dive into the specific solutions for puzzles in this story. Instead, I’m focusing on broad things that would have saved me time if I’d thought about them when I first started. For blow-by-blow information on every collectible location, there are a host of resources available online, including IGN’s excellent guide.

1. Make the most of those informantsThe Riddler’s goons are soft, and Batman should make the most of their disloyalty. Edward Nigma’s subordinates appear green under detective vision, and they sing like sparrows after getting roughed up a bit. Batman’s map gets updated with several new points of interest in the process, too.

Batman's Director Weighs In On The Arkham Asylum Vs. Open-World Debate

While Batman: Arkham Knight is earning its fair share of praise, some fans still prefer the more self-contained Metroid-inspired setting of 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum. While visiting Rocksteady last year for our cover story on Batman: Arkham Knight, we asked game director Sefton Hill about his thoughts on fans longing for a return to the single location like the asylum and to leave the open-world behind. While the interview was recorded last year, this is our first time sharing this discussion point.

Watch the video interview clip below to hear Hill's thoughts on the fan debate between Arkham Asylum versus the open worlds of Arkham City and Knight.
