On the lead up to Game Informer's Game of the Year awards of 2015, we've invited a number of the video game industry's influential figures to share their favorite games of the year.

Ted Price is the president and CEO of Insomniac Games. After releasing the little-known PlayStation title Disruptor in 1996, Insomniac went on to release a number of hits including Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, and Sunset Overdrive. The studio is currently working on a Ratchet & Clank reboot for PlayStation 4 and Edge of Nowhere for Oculus Rift. Here's Price with his picks for the Top 5 Games of 2015:

5. Rocket League
I picked this as #5 because I’m a sucker for simple co-op or competitive games I can play with my kids. I use “simple” as a compliment because making a game simple but fun and addictive is brutally hard. It’s one of those games that’s easy to pick up and hard to master. Yet even if I never will be able to compete at a high level, every time I jump into an arena, it’s sheer fun. That keeps me coming back again and again.

Afterwords – Rise of the Tomb Raider

about X hours ago from

Crystal Dynamics recently released Lara Croft’s latest adventure for Xbox One and Xbox 360, which ramps up the high action and has the reboots’ biggest world to date. (You can read our review of the stellar game here)  We spoke with franchise creative director Noah Hughes about what went into its creation.

What were some of Crystal Dynamics' main goals for Rise of the Tomb Raider? From the story perspective, we really wanted to continue forward from where we left off [in the original reboot] and try to tell the next chapter in Lara’s story in her movement toward who she would eventually become as a character. Part of the gameplay promise of that was not only to see Lara step toward her role as a tomb raider more formally, but to deliver that fantasy fulfillment of tomb-raiding more aggressively. Whether that be our commitment to some of the ancient themes or scale within in the tombs or with Lara’s language system, just trying to cater to the gameplay expression of her unique facets as a brilliant archaeological explorer.

The Gaming Trends Of 2015

Each December, we take a moment to look back at the news and headlines that defined the year. The video game industry has been in a state of massive transition for years. The Best Achievements And Trophies Of 2015

about X hours ago from

Whether you love them, hate them, or forget they exist until they pop on your screen and interrupt your game, achievements and trophies are a (literally) required feature of all PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam games. I fall into the love camp, and these are some of my favorites from 2015.

The achievements and trophies I find most interesting aren't the ones that mark your progress in a storyline or reward you for attaining a certain number of headshots. I like the ones that force you to think outside of the normal functions of the game or reward you for doing something weird.
