An Extensive Look At Final Fantasy XV's First Chapter

about X hours ago from

With this month's cover reveal of Final Fantasy XV, we're hoping to explain to fans how the game plays and what exactly you'll be doing in this new world. You've seen a lot of trailers, but in this video feature we wanted to show off the actual gameplay from Final Fantasy XV's opening chapter. While visiting Square-Enix's headquarters in Tokyo, we sat down with the game's director Hajime Tabata to discuss what players will be doing in "Chapter 1" (through a translator provided by Square) and what makes it the most ambitious Final Fantasy yet. We should point out that the gameplay featured in the video interview is from an early version of Final Fantasy XV, and does not represent the state of the shipping game.

Watch the video below to learn from Tabata about how the beginning calls back to Final Fantasy II and why he doesn't want people to think of Final Fantasy XV as an open-world game.

The Best Underappreciated Meta Moments In Games

about X hours ago from

Quantum Break is out today and looks to be a pretty good time. Its developer, Remedy Entertainment, is known for stocking its games to the brim with neat little Easter eggs that often hint at a connected universe shared between games. The studio's franchise-development director talked about "a bigger Remedy universe" back in 2014, when early footage of Quantum Break revealed the protagonist wearing clothing that referenced Remedy's previous game, Alan Wake.

While Remedy may be known for these sorts of hi-jinks, it's certainly not the only developer that likes playing around with its audience. With respect to the greats like the Psycho Mantis fight in Metal Gear Solid, and nearly all of Eternal Darkness, we've decided to focus on moments and games that aren't recognized as often as the obvious, classic sequences (you can find our rundown of those here).

Conan's Aaron Bleyaert Shares His Top Five Favorite Games

about X hours ago from

We recently spoke with Conan's Aaron Bleyaert about the segment he frequently appears in, Clueless Gamer, how he figured out one of the few things Conan didn't know anything about, and what it's like to be a celebrity in Korea. You can find all of that in the latest issue of the magazine and in an upcoming podcast interview. Another thing we talked about, however, was his five favorite games. Below, in alphabetical order, you will find quotes from Bleyaert about what he considers to be his favorite games and why.

BraidI love games where it showed me something new, or affected me in some way. Braid was amazing. That was a game that just absolutely blew my mind and I was like, “Wow! I didn’t know storytelling in a game could affect me the way it did.” The end of Braid was incredibly soul-crushing and amazing. That was a moment that stands up against any movie I’ve seen or book I’ve read. That was absolutely incredible.

Test Chamber – Driving A Jeep And Shooting Dudes For 20 Minutes In Uncharted 4

We recently got a chance to play through 20 minutes of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, and you can now experience what we experienced.

This section takes place around the halfway point of the game, and features Nathan Drake, his brother Sam, and Sully on a road trip in Madagascar. We get a good look at driving the jeep through Uncharted 4's large levels, see some of the new mechanics that help Nathan stay stealthier, and use the Jeep's winch to make our way through the environment.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's Den got a small delay recently, but it's planned for release on May 10 on PlayStation 4.
