'Assassin's Creed: Odyssey' is a love letter to ancient Greece

I'll never forget the time I watched the trailer for 300, the iconic fantasy war film from 2006 about King Leonidas of Sparta and his clash against the Persians with a heavily outnumbered army. As soon as I saw the scene where Leonidas, played by Gerard Butler, screamed "This is Sparta" at the top of his lungs and then kicked a dude down a deep concrete well, I knew the movie was going to be an instant classic. Less than a year after touring Egypt with Origins, Ubisoft is taking us to King Leonidas' world in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. The new game takes place in 431BC, right at the start of the Peloponnesian war between the competing cities of Sparta and Athens.

Be 'Star Fox' in the Switch version of Ubisoft's 'Starlink'

Ubisoft debuted Starlink debuted at least year's E3 as a next generation toys-to-life game -- a Skylanders in space, if you will, and heir to Disney Infinity. The modular spacecraft models looked pretty cool when we got our hands on them, but today we saw a full-fledged trailer of the game (full title Starlink: Battle for Atlas), which looks like Destiny toned down for the Saturday morning cartoon demographic. But there's another gamer group that might want to rush out and play: Ubisoft revealed that Star Fox's Fox McCloud will come exclusively to the Switch version of the game, and yes, you can buy a cool Arwing toy to go with it.

'Just Dance 2019' is heading to the Wii like it's 2009

Ubisoft's E3 press conference kicked off with a marching band, crazy costumes and a dancing panda and yet somehow that wasn't even the most bizarre thing about the company's announcement of Just Dance 2019. While the latest installment of the motion-capture dancing series will be released on all the usual suspects -- PS4, Xbox One and Switch -- Ubisoft's also giving fans of older systems something new to play on the Xbox 360, Wii U and yes, even the Wii.

'The Division 2' will have the raids 'Destiny 2' doesn't

One of the biggest criticisms levied against Destiny 2 right now is its lack of raids. Ubisoft knows this, which is why it proudly announced today that The Division 2 will have eight-player raids next year. What's more, all the game's year one expansions, which will be broken down into three separate chapters, won't cost players a cent. Destiny and The Division, of course, are two separate franchises with different worlds and play styles. But they're both competing in the same lucrative and ferociously competitive 'games as a service' market. Ubisoft, clearly, is hoping today's reveal will pull disillusioned players away from Bungie's sci-fi shooter.

'Rainbow Six: Siege' is a juggernaut with 35 million players

Rainbow Six: Siege has come a long, long way from the early days when it was a risky break from the series' familiar formula. Ubisoft has revealed that the team-based tactical shooter now has over 35 million players. It's not certain how many of those are active on a regular basis, but there's a lot of content for them to play -- Ubi noted that there has been 10 seasons' worth so far.

'Beyond Good & Evil 2' is more real than ever before

Today at the Ubisoft E3 press event in Los Angeles, we got a deeper look than before at the space opera prequel, Beyond Good and Evil 2. After a nice long trailer showing the crew of a mothership headed out into the vastness of space. Narrative director for the game Gabrielle Shrager took to the stage with senior producer Guillaume Brunier to show off the latest trailer for this hotly anticipated game, which focused on the main characters for the upcoming title.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt wants to put your art in 'Beyond Good and Evil 2'

From the moment a jazzy panda leading a marching band opened up Ubisoft's E3 stage, it was clear this would be a much livelier presentation than we've seen over the last few days. But after the gorgeous new trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2 rolled, nobody was expecting the studio's leads to introduce...Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Ubisoft is partnering with his online creative community HitRecord to crowdsource a bunch of fan-made content that may end up in the game -- and you can jump on the collaboration's website to start creating now.

Square Enix’s E3 showcase was a bust

Square Enix’s E3 showcase was a bust

Well, that was a disappointment. Square Enix held its E3 showcase earlier today and it was, to put it mildly, underwhelming. If you were hoping for more information about Final Fantasy VII Remake, or the mysterious Avengers Project, sorry -- neither made the cut this year. A number of smaller releases were absent too, including Dragon Quest Builders 2, The World Ends With You: Final Remix, and Left Alive, an apocalyptic shooter directed by Armored Core producer Toshifumi Nabeshima.
