Gaming chat app Discord tests video calls and screen sharing

Discord, the Slack-like gaming chat app, has been steadily improving since its initial launch a couple of years ago. Last January, it added a $5 paid tier for fans to essentially thank the company — the bonuses simply include GIF avatars, custom emoji and a bigger file upload limit. It secretly raised $50 million last month, as well. That extra cash may be why the Discord team is able to start rolling out two of its most-requested features, video chat and screen sharing.

'Hearthstone’s ‘Knights of the Frozen Throne’ expansion is live

Blizzard's digital card game Hearthstone's newest full expansion is now live. Knights of the Frozen Throne brings 135 new cards and free solo content to the title and a couple new mechanics, which will shake up the game's competitive meta. Sure, it's a lot of what we've come to expect from a Hearthstone expansion, but who can complain about new additions to tried-and-true gameplay?

Of course 'Fallout 4' will have a 'game of the year' edition

Much like the sun rises in the East, Bethesda has trotted out another game of the year edition for one of its open-world role-playing games. This time it's Fallout 4. As you might expect, it includes everything that's been released for the game since 2015 including its six add-on mission packs. This latest version will be released on September 26th for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Official pricing isn't available, but based on history, this probably won't cost more than $60.

Cult game ‘Night Trap’ gets limited physical release on PS4 and PC

If you're keen to get your hands on the remake of Night Trap, you'll have to be quick. To build on its cult standing, the campy horror game will only be available in a limited run when it lands tomorrow. Physical versions of the game will be restricted to 2,000 copies on PC, and 3,000 copies for the PS4. A collector's edition, housed in an individually-numbered throwback case, will launch the same day for Sony's console. Priced at $55, it will also include a bunch of retro goodies, including a cassette tape with the game's theme song. Considering an original Night Trap poster can net over $200 on eBay, it may be a worthwhile investment for fans. But, with just 3,000 copies available, you'll have to snap it up fast. Xbox players, on the other hand, will have to settle for a digital edition, expected later in the fall. Steam and the PlayStation store, however, will get the game on August 15.

The weird and wonderful world of soccer transfers on Twitter

Football. Soccer. Calcio. Futbol. Fußball. Whatever you call it, the world's favourite game continues to grow in terms of players, viewership and, of course, money. Just last week, Brazilian forward Neymar sealed a whopping €222 million ($263 million) move to France after Paris St Germain triggered the former Barcelona player's release clause. With so much cash at their disposal, teams are coming up with more and more elaborate ways to broadcast news of their new signing. Take Premier League strugglers Watford, who decided to use the popular Football Manager video game to announce their new record signing.

Overwatch League adds new teams from Rams, Cloud9 owners

Blizzard's official professional esports league for Overwatch continues to round into shape, and today announced two more franchises have been purchased. That puts the count at nine teams total, including the two announced today with one in Los Angeles established by Stan and Josh Kroenke (a family that already holds ownership stakes in the LA Rams, Arsenal Football Club, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche). The other goes to Cloud9 owner Jack Etienne, whose company already operates ten esports teams, including one for Overwatch.

Google and Blizzard invite you to train AI with 'StarCraft II'

Google, apparently tired of trouncing human players at Go with its DeepMind AI, set its computer intelligence up with Blizzard's video game Starcraft II last fall. It seems that was more than a stunt: Today, Google announced it has built a whole research environment around training its AI to play the space-age strategy game -- and it's publicly available. Anyone who wants can tinker with DeepMind's new toolset, SC2LE, to facilitate their own AI research.
