Relentlessly witty 'Night in the Woods' comes to your phone in 2018

If you haven't played Night in the Woods, you're frankly missing out. The made-partly-in-Michigan indie adventure melds witty (and often silly) dialogue with iconic visuals, varied gameplay and discussions of weighty subjects. It's a good thing that the game will soon be available anywhere you go, then. Infinite Fall has revealed that Night in the Woods will be coming to mobile devices sometime in 2018. The studio hasn't offered details yet, but it's safe to say that the interface will have to change if you're going to prank shoppers and get into knife fights on your phone's touchscreen.

Don’t bother playing ‘South Park’ unless you’re a die-hard fan

Don’t bother playing ‘South Park’ unless you’re a die-hard fan

'South Park used to be a lot funnier,' I catch myself thinking as I play through the franchise's latest game, The Fractured But Whole (TFBW). Maybe I'm just too old, or has the world moved on while South Park stayed the same? Humor is crucial to the success of the game, which relies on superficial mechanics and an overload of fetch quests and collectibles to pad its length; It's TFBW's jokey tone and writing that hold the game together. But if you aren't already a fan of the show, there's little reason to play the game.

The US is getting a SNES-themed new 3DS XL too

Turns out that SNES-themed 3DS XL isn't a Europe exclusive after all. As Twitter user @Wario64 (who else?) points out, the handheld is currently available for pre-order in the US for $199.99. It will ship a whole two weeks after the Europe release on November 27, but that's better than never, right? It also follows in the footsteps of the Super Famicom-inspired 3DS XL, which landed exclusively in Japan in March of last year. Okay, we'll stop rubbing it in. To add to the nostalgia, Nintendo is packing a download code for Super Mario Kart with the variant.

Windows 10 now includes anti-cheat protection for games

Windows 10's Fall Creators Update is full of changes, but one of the understated additions could make a big difference if you're a gamer. Microsoft has switched on its previously teased TruePlay feature, which promises to protect against "common" cheats in Universal Windows Platform games. Titles that take advantage of the safeguard will both run in a protected mode and trigger a background service that watches for typical cheating behavior. If they find anything amiss, they'll send data to the developer. You can switch off TruePlay if you're nervous about Windows transmitting your data, but companies can limit what you're allowed to do (playing online, for example) if you don't have it enabled.
