'The Division' finally adds to its open-world game map

After spending much of the past year upgrading The Division's core gameplay and its player-versus-player content, Ubisoft is ready to turn its attention to fresh player-versus-environment material -- and that finally includes a new area to play in. The free Resistance update will add the West Side Pier, a two-zone map expansion that includes its own social space and unusual combat environments like the USS Intrepid. And importantly, this isn't just more of the usual AI grind. In a livestream, Ubi revealed that there will be frequent alerts for new events, short-term mini assignments (new ones will pop up every 15 to 20 minutes) and dynamic enemy spawning. If you finish those smaller tasks, you'll get the same Division Tech resources that you would normally have to earn in the PvP Dark Zone area.

Sony’s new ‘Crystal’ DualShock 4s are red, white and blue

DualShock controllers for PlayStation 3 and 4 have both had a translucent option as far back as 2013. The top case of the "crystal" controller lets you see through to the inner workings of the wireless gaming device, which for some reason is pretty darn cool. Sony is making a play for that nostalgia with three new crystal colors — red, blue and clear — for its DualShock 4 wireless controllers.

Windows 10 Mixed Reality headsets are coming on October 17th too

In addition to Microsoft debuting Windows Mixed Reality on October 17th, as part of the Fall Creators Update, its hardware partners will also have their VR headsets ready to go on the same day. That's not a major shock, though it's a surprise to see that computer makers have moved from the inexpensive, $300 price Microsoft was originally aiming for. Headsets from HP, Lenovo, and Dell will cost $350 on their own, or $450 together with motion controllers. Given just how important motion tracking is in VR, it wouldn't make sense to go without those controllers, either.

Paranormal thriller 'Oxenfree' teased for Nintendo Switch

We love Oxenfree around these parts. The paranormal thriller captures the awkwardness of being a teenager incredibly well, tasking players to uncover the mystery of an abandoned military base while managing relationships with friends along for the ride. It's already available on mobile, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but the developers at Night School Studio have started teasing that it'll appear on Nintendo Switch as well.

Second ‘Battlefield 1’ DLC deploys on September 19th

At Gamescom last week, EA showed off a timeline of future expansions headed to Battlefield 1, including the next to come, In The Name of the Tsar. The game's second DLC just got a global release date on September 19th, but players who bought the Premium Pass can load it up two weeks early on September 5th. Even if you don't care about the extra content, tech heads might want to buy it for another added feature: HDR10 support.
