Microsoft shuts down a 'Halo Online' fan mod

Microsoft takes copyright violations as seriously as Nintendo does, it'd seem. The Xbox-maker has requested that a fan-made version of Halo Online stop production. Microsoft canned the Russia-only, free-to-play Halo Online back in 2016. From the sounds of it, things like textures and asset packs from the game made their way to the internet, where the "ElDewrito" team found and used them in their fan-made resurrection of the game.

Pro gaming team signs 13-year-old ‘Fortnite’ player

Among the four members making up pro gaming organization Team Secret's new European Fortnite squad, one stood out: 13-year-old Kyle "Mongraal" Jackson. Almost immediately after the team was introduced today, news outlets jumped on Jackson's youth. Even if he may not hold the record (some say the then-12-year-old Jun "TY" Tae Yang was picked up to play StarCraft in 2006, noted Cybersport.com), the Fortnite ace is one of the youngest ever signed to pro team.

The 'Wallace and Grommit' studio is creating an emotional WWI game

Games set in real-world conflicts don't necessarily glorify war, but it's rare that they fully address the horrors of war. For every poignant story like Valiant Hearts, there's many more titles that might only offer token commentary. Wallace & Grommit's Aardman Animation Studios, Bandai Namco and DigixArt want to change that. They've unveiled 11-11: Memories Retold, a narrative adventure about two World War I soldiers who meet under the "most unlikely of circumstances."

Loot crates are now illegal in Belgium

Officials in Belgium have determined that loot boxes violate the country's gambling laws and if publishers don't remove them from their games, they face jail time and fines. Specifically, FIFA 18, Overwatch and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive were found to be in violation. While Star Wars Battlefront II was also part of the Belgian government's investigation, EA's removal of the game's loot boxes kept it from bumping up against the country's legislation. In a statement, Minister of Justice Koen Geens said that if loot boxes in the aforementioned games aren't removed, their publishers could be subject to up to five years in prison and a fine of up to €800,000 (approximately $974,926). If children are involved, those punishments could be doubled.

Now, Fullbright has announced that it's bringing the game to PlayStation 4 on May 8th. The experience will be identical save for a new "Developer Commentary Mode" that includes two hours of writer, designer, artist and programmer insight. If you're interested, the title is available for pre-order now with 20 percent off the usual asking price.

Xbox One update can automatically put your TV in game mode

Starting today, Microsoft is rolling out its"Spring Update" for the Xbox One, but it isn't done adding new features for the season. The update that all users will get over the next few days adds "auto low latency mode" which works with compatible TVs to make sure they're in "game mode" when the console is connected to reduce any lag. If it's hooked up to a PC display compatible with AMD's FreeSync tech, then it will match the refresh rate and frame output to end stuttering and tearing. The One S and One X now support FreeSync 2 with HDR, as well as 1440p for monitors that deliver a resolution between 1080p and 4K Ultra HD.
