Halo 5: Guardians Co-Op Review

Halo 5: Guardians Co-Op Review

While both salmon and tilapia are kinds of fish, they are distinctly different in both taste and texture. The same can be said about video games. There are genres of games that have simply defined themselves as a distinct place within it. While they are still first person shooters at heart, we often describe a game as like DOOM, like Call of Duty, or like Halo. There’s something distinct about these flavors of games, that when another game implements its formula, you get that distinct feel. Halo 5: Guardians continues to feel like a Halo game, and in fact, it may be the first Halo game that fulfills the promising of feeling like a Spartan. But it may be the furthest game from the core Halo experience yet that we’ve come to define what a Halo game is.

Two Trailers Unleashed for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

about X hours ago from

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 releases in under two weeks. For fans of the franchise, you're likely counting down the seconds until November 6th. To add more fuel to the burning ardor of your anticipation, two new trailers have recently been released. The first is the Launch Gameplay trailer - a strange name, but I guess it's specifically the launch trailer for the game that focuses on the gameplay. Watch explosions, people dropping from the sky, helicopters shooting missiles, and flamethrower-wielding soldiers to the silky smooth tunes of Mick Jagger. The second trailer is for those of you who are either getting one of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Collector's Editions (in three flavors: Juggernog, Hardened, or Digital Deluxe) or are in the mood to be enticed into getting one of them. It's for the Zombies Bonus Map (entitled "The Giant") included as part of the package of the Collector's Editions. It will also be included in the game's Season Pass. "The Giant" picks up where "Origins" left off in the Zombies story and is set in a WWII-era research facility.

Legendary Run Through - Halo 5: Guardians Missions 1 and 2

about X hours ago from

Last night a group of spartans started to play through the Halo 5: Guardians campaign on the infamous legendary difficulty in four player co-op. This may be the most brutal and difficult legendary difficulty to date in a Halo 5 game, but I'll let you be the judge of that from the videos posted below. While we have little problem with mission one, it's the second mission of the game that Halo 5 really throws it all at us, causing us to hole up and defend ourselves more than go on the offensive. You can really get an interesting peak at the AI at times, especially when a player goes down and looks at the battle from a floating camera. Both videos show the skull locations in each respective level, the first Skull (IWHBYD) can be seen around the 7:55 mark of the first video. Check it out here.

Gaze Upon 37 New Halo 5: Guardians Screenshots

Gaze Upon 37 New Halo 5: Guardians Screenshots

Sure, videos are cool and all. But something can be said for a carefully created screenshot. Getting the enemy positioning just right, the lens flare just glinting off the hood of a vehicle, or the explosion just as it happens. Like a good photograph, capturing that moment in time for a screenshot isn't always as easy as pressing a button. Halo 5: Guardians is out on Tuesday and Microsoft is opening the floodgates with tons of assets. We got over 100 screens to be honest, but weren't going to post all of the Req Pack Ones, Warzone ones, and several other that show the interface. Unless...you want us to. In the meantime, gaze upon the campaign in photographic glory.

Our Weekend In Gaming: Dungeons and Skaven Edition

Our Weekend In Gaming: Dungeons and Skaven Edition

Just as it is written in the ancient tomes, tradition mandates that we delve into another Weekend in Gaming.  Little is spoken about The Grand Co-Optimus Library, but it is within those musty manuscripts that we gleaned our eternal duties:  "Thou must enjoy at least one game of the video or tabletop variety, then announce your intention the masses, lest the realms fall into utter chaos."  And so, like the obedient Co-opiteers that came before us, we carry on this sacred ritual.  No one is quite sure what the connection is there, but hey, that's journalism for ya!Nick Puleo (@NickPuleo) - "More Halo 5 time for our review on Monday, also checking out a 'Steam Machine'."

Enjoy A Horde Of Vermintide Trailers

about X hours ago from

Much like the endless legion of Skaven populating the bad guys of Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide, Fatshark Studios have been pumping out trailer after trailer to promote their new game. Maybe they intend to evoke the same feeling of being swallowed up by bipedal rat-men by drowning us all in videos of said Skaven ripping stuff up. Seriously. Every time I've tried to watch a trailer this week, it's been nothing but rat-folk trying to murder everybody.Intro cinematics might not enjoy the same frequency they once had, but I can always appreciate CGI fantasy people blowing up bad guys.I did not know that Skaven ate rats. The concept was initially unsettling, but us human beings will routinely consume entire families of Gingerbread men, so I guess it's probably okay.

Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition's Combat Tailored For Controllers

about X hours ago from

Let's not mince words here: we really liked Divinity: Original Sin. The whole Co-Opticrew was pretty pumped about getting a new version on current gen consoles. Maybe somebody out there is afraid of building their own hulking monolithic computer, and opts for a PS4 or an Xbox One instead. Of course, the PC's version was heavily dependent on the classic RPG standby of the Mouse and Keyboard combo. If Larian studios intended to bring Divinity to consoles, they'd have to map their controls to an actual controller.Check out the Combat Trailer below to see just how they translated the unique combat of Divinity with much fewer buttons. The turn based, controller version of this looks pretty slick! Snapping to targets seemed like a crisp and effective way to do that, other than having to select a block each time. I'm also pleased to see the environmental effects remaining in, given that hurling lightning into a pond full of knee-deep enemies is one of the most satisfying things to do in that game.

FORCED Available Today on PS4 and Xbox One

about X hours ago from

If you cast your mind back a couple years, you may recall a co-op arena brawler called FORCED. The game was notable not only for its co-op play, but the story behind its developer, BetaDwarf, as well. Initially a PC only release, there were plans for it to come to consoles, but it got delayed. Well the wait is over and the game will finally be available to play on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One today.Titled FORCED - Slightly Better Edition, the game is more than just a port. The title has been optimized to ensure smooth performance on the consoles, and two new survival maps have been added as well. We were fans of the cooperative action in the game, but if that's not enough to convince you, I advise watching this trailer.I'm glad the game is finding its way to consoles now. Couch co-op on a PC can be kind of tough, and FORCED is a great example of a couch co-op game to play with friends.

Overlord: Fellowship Of Evil Is Now Available For Your Nefarious Needs

about X hours ago from

The latest in ne'er-do-well technology has finally reached our digital doorsteps.  No longer must we make prank phone calls or donate to Trump's presidential campaign to sate our sadistic desires.  Thanks to Overlord: Fellowship of Evil, we can direct our now menace onto hapless, digital creatures.  It's pretty much a victimless crime!  Unless, for whatever reason, you do consider AI to be partially sentient.  Then it's, like, 100% filled with victims.Starting today, you and three other like-minded villains can work together to bring evil back from the brink of extinction.  In Fellowship of Evil, the four of you assume the roles of the Netherghuls, undead servants of the dark arts summoned to "rally the troops", as it were.  In doing so, you'll be taking on Shining Justice, a band of paladins led by the mysterious unicorn known only as Sparkle, which is oddly menacing.Fellowship of Evil is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.  The developers, Codemasters, have controlled the franchise's reigns since its inception in 2007.  The last couple years have seen them primarily focused on their racing series (F1, Dirt, and Grid), so it'll be exciting to see what mischievous ideas they've stewed up since 2009's Overlord II.
