Steam Summer Sale 2016 Co-Op Staff Picks

With Steam's 2016 Summer Sale in full effect, we here at Co-Optimus decided that it might be best to provide some sort of guide to help weary bargain hunters navigate the proverbial labyrinth of deals.  After all, what kind of cooperative gaming site would we be if we let our buddies get bogged down in the free-to-play quagmire?  What kind of authorities would we be if our site's stance on adventure games was "yeah, I dunno, they're probably all pretty good or whatever"?  I dare not dream of a world in which we cannot offer our suggestions to the unwashed masses. With that in mind, we present our co-op staff picks for this year's Summer Sale:Nick Puleo (@NickPuleo)

Co-Op Roguelike Full Mojo Rampage Hits PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

Break out the animal bones and put the witch doctor on speed dial, it's time for some real voodoo magic! Publisher Nicalis has just released Over the Top Games' co-op roguelike Full Mojo Rampage on Xbox One and PS4. Finally, a relevant excuse to pledge my soul to a voodoo demon!Full Mojo Rampage is an action RPG infused with tons of roguelike elements. Each player controls a character that pledges loyalty to a powerful voodoo spirit named Loa, which I'm sure carries no downsides whatsoever. Complete quests to gain power and knowledge to better serve Loa, all while battling all manner of spirits and evil being, including zombies, which actually makes sense in a voodoo-inspired video game.Full Mojo Rampage supports four player online co-op for the entirety of the game's campaign. There are also separate co-op modes available, as well as massive eight player versus modes for when the voodoo magic rips your friendships apart at the seams.

Get Your T-Hunt on with July's Games with Gold

about X hours ago from

Games with Gold comes around once a month like a co-op colossus giving Gold members of Xbox Live up to four 'free' games.  There have been a wonderfully disproportionate number of co-op titles to be had.  This month is a little light, with only one of the four games being co-op, but when that game is the stone cold classic Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2, who cares?Vegas 2 is now eight years old, so is longer in tooth than the average Sabre Toothed Tiger, but that does not stop the gameplay being great fun.  The campaign is two player online and local co-op, but it is the fabled T-Hunt mode that will have you coming back for more. This simple sounding mode is 2 player local, 4 player online co-op, that sees you having to empty a map of up to 50 terrorists.  Sounds a breeze?  Not really, it takes team work and nerves of steel to do the job as once you lose both of your lives you are finished.  This is a mode that I still pick up and play now - see if you can spot me, I am the bloke with the freaky face as I scanned mine in!

Premium DLC Release Plans for Battleborn Detailed

2K has finally released some details about the paid DLC co-op missions for Battleborn. Each of these new "operations" appear to revolve around one of the game's characters and some part of their history. The first one, "Attikus and the Thrall Rebellion," will allow you to relive Attikus' recollection of the insurgency he lead against the Jennerit.According to 2K, all of the operations that will be released over the next few months will allow players to play through them over and over again as "the story, enemies, and objectives will change, increasing the difficulty but also the rewarded loot." They don't go any further into what that means exactly though if it holds up that would certainly bring some welcome replayability to the co-op side of things. Playing the operation will also be the only way to earn the new skins and taunts that are a part of each piece of DLC.Here's the rough timeline for when these premium pieces of DLC will hit:

Sometimes you have to dig deep...very deep into the Steam sales to find a gem. Sure it's easy to recognize the AAA titles and their 30% off values, but finding something that provides a real bang for your buck type scenario can be challenging amongst the thousands of titles. We did the work for you and found your next co-op game.Blood and Bacon. While the game is only marked down 10% - it'll set you back a whopping $0.89 on sale. It's a simple arena shooter, but it's charm is like that of a B movie or the Earth Defense Force series. The game is so bad...it's good.

What Happens to Abandoned Multiplayer Games?

What Happens to Abandoned Multiplayer Games?

Have you ever really enjoyed playing an online multiplayer game, only to have the server abandoned? This is one of the most frustrating aspects of online multiplayer games, but it does happen to all games eventually. Sometimes companies feel the need to officially move on from a video game and shut it down. Whether this is due to poor sales, a new focus for the studio or simply the game showing its age, it occurs. Yet this still begs the question of what exactly happens to online multiplayer games after they get abandoned? If you are hoping that these games get a second life, then you could be in luck. Before addressing what happens to abandoned online multiplayer games, it should be noted why they become abandoned. As previously mentioned, there are times that a video game company feels the need to move on. One specific example is when Nintendo decided to shut down online support for their Wii games. With the Wii U having online support, Nintendo probably felt the need to push more people to play the Wii U online.
