Descent: Underground Adding Co-Op Soon

Descent: Underground Adding Co-Op Soon

Descendent Studios has been hard at work reviving Descent, the beloved six degrees-of-freedom shooter that first saw release in the mid-90s. After a successful Kickstarter campaign last year, Descent: Underground launched on Steam's Early Access last October with just a handful of the planned/promised features. One of those features, co-op, will see release soon.At the end of May, the development team pushed a new build to their test center that included a co-op vs A.I. multiplayer bots mode. The co-op mode has gone through some testing with those folks and it sounds like it should be added to the Early Access version of the game soon enough. In the latest update, Descendent Studios stated that the "next update will include online co-op play, the Warlock and Goliath ships, and much more."Once it does, you'll be able to team up with a few friends online to play through a few of the game's multiplayer modes and battle A.I. bots instead of humans. The devs appear to be open to other ideas from the community, so there's a chance that it will expand beyond "comp stomping."

You Have a Gat out of Hell's Chance with July's PS+ Games

about X hours ago from

Before M$ had the idea to give away a couple of 'free' games every month, PlayStation were offering the service.  Yes, this may be because PS+ is a paid service, but a game for $0(ish) is nothing to be scoffed at.  The protagonists of the Saints Row series are used to taking things for nothing, so don't feel bad that in July you will get Saints Row: Gat out of Hell for nada.Gat out of Hell is the full release 2 player co-op spin off from Saints Row IV and follows Gat into the depths.  It is essentially a very similar game to the series' fourth outing as you are bestowed with magical powers that allow you to fly, strike the floor powerfully etc.  It is certainly a fun outing, if you can stand the ribald humor. If you are also looking for some solo action, July PS+ has these in abundance too:

Halo 5's Warzone Firefight Co-Op Mode Impressions

about X hours ago from

Halo 5: Guardians launched as what was arguably the weakest co-op experience for the series. Despite supporting four player co-op in the campaign, the game lacked local couch co-op for the very first time in any Halo game on Microsoft's console. Combined with the missing Firefight or Spartan Ops co-op mode, players were very limited in the time they could spend with their friends in a non-competitive setting.Last week 343 Studios finally launched their take on the popular Firefight co-op mode that launched with Halo 3: ODST. Traditionally players would just take on waves and waves of enemies in a seemingly endless fashion, but Halo 5's take is a little more focused - and a lot more chaotic. There's two brand new maps available created just for this mode, with Sanctum being my personal favorite so far.

Our Weekend In Gaming: Aliens versus Democracy

Our Weekend In Gaming: Aliens versus Democracy

Not a lot of action this weekend, I'm afraid, as the Co-opticrew is gearing up to celebrate the release of Independence Day: Resurgence, and also some ancient, pre-Myspace holiday?  Not quite sure what the deal is with that second bit, but golly, I sure am excited to watch America sock it to some extraterrestrial invaders.Of course, I'd be remiss if I failed to mention the most important activity this weekend: Steam's 2016 Summer Sale.  Not quite sure how to navigate Gabe Newell's Labyrinth of Splendorous Savings?  Afraid you'll happen upon the minotaur that lives within the confines of those discounts?  Let our Staff Picks be your guide!Once you've given those a look-see, why don't you glance over what we'll be up to this weekend?  I'll give you a hint - it's wondering how we got suckered into buying like thirty games again.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Goes Pretty Dark Souls in Next DLC

about X hours ago from

The next bit of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 DLC has been revealed. The zombie fighting team of Dempsey, Nikolai, Richtofen, and Takeo move from the islands to the Stalingrad in "Descent," and apparently the Russians are upping the game.Gorod Krovi is the next chapter in the zombie tale and it will be set in an alternate U.S.S.R. where there are undead in mech suits and dragons. Yep, there really isn't anywhere else to go with all of this other than dragons at this point. The Descent DLC pack will arrive on the PlayStation 4 first on July 12, and the Xbox One and PC sometime later (presumably in August if it follows the trend). As with the previous DLC packs, it will retail for $15 and you'll get it automatically if you've already purchased the Season Pass.

Gunnihilation Is Part Contra, Part Broforce - All Bullet Hell.

about X hours ago from

If you're looking to get a classic gaming fix on, but with a modern day edge, the upcoming game Gunnihilation by Robopixel Games should fill the void. Heavily inspired by classic arcade games like Contra and Smash T.V., you're dropped into a 16-bit world filled with enemy soldiers, mechs, and other baddies as you jump, shoot, and dodge your way through the gunfire. The game hit Steam's Greenlight service last week and in four short days was greenlit. The team even took the game to EGX, and won 'UK Game of the Show' at Gamescom 2015 while also being featured by the BBC and Develop magazine. Needless to say this little Unity developed shooter has gotten a lot of attention. As for co-op, right now the game features four player couch co-op action. Though the team is looking at bringing the game to consoles and with that comes the possibility of online co-op. There's an Alpha version available for anyone to download right now, so you can get a feel for the game.
