Flat Heroes Gets Greenlit on Steam

about X hours ago from

UK developer Parallel Circles got some good news this week. Their forthcoming action platformer, Flat Heroes, got Greenlit on Steam! That's good news for us, too, as the game features a co-op mode that up to four players can enjoy.Flat Heroes' action largely entails avoiding death by dashing, clinging to walls, and using the environment to your advantage. You control a square and each level are faced with a different challenge. Sometimes it's a bunch of arrows that will follow you around. Other times it's little dots that will try to snipe you. There are over a 100 levels you can play with your friends with the occasional boss level tossed into the mix.Flat Heroes' Waves mode, which is the dedicated co-op mode of the game, supports four players locally throughout all 100 levels. There is no set release date or price for the game, but you can follow the Greenlight page for the game for all the latest updates from the developers.

Next Rainbow 6 Siege DLC Arrives August 2, Free Weekend

If you're still playing Rainbow 6 Siege, then we've got some good news for you. The next round of DLC, "Operation Skull Rain," arrives for all platforms next Tuesday, August 2. It will feature two new operators for you to use in any mode, which hopefully means you'll be checking them out in co-op.Skull Rain shifts things from the deserts of the Middle East to the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. Both of the new operators are from the Brazilian special police unit known as BOPE (Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais) and, as with the previous new characters, one is an attacker and the other a defender. Capitão, the attacker, has a special tactical crossbow that can fire incendiary bolts to ignite all the oxygen in a room and suffocate opponents (I don't think that's how air works?) and Caveira, the defender, can sneak up on enemies, incapacitate them, and reveal their fellow teammates. Both of the new operators will be free to all Season Pass holders and available for in-game purchase using the premium currency for everyone else.

Two Sonic Games in the Works, Possibly Featuring Co-Op

about X hours ago from

Sega had a little shindig for their iconic hedgehog this past weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con to celebrate his 25 years in the gaming scene. The event was.... interesting? Regardless of that, two new games were announced that will see release next year: Project Sonic and Sonic Mania. It's unclear at this point if either game will feature co-op as many of their previous titles have. The trailer for Project Sonic features the line "but even heroes need help" before an updated version of the "classic" Sonic appeared to team up with the "modern" Sonic. Sonic Mania is an interesting "remastered vision" of the original Sega classics and features three playable characters - Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles - but it made no mention of whether it would support co-op.For now, we're chalking this up to our "co-op rumors" category until Sega has more info to reveal about the titles. I hope that at least Sonic Mania ends up with co-op as I really like what they're attempting with that (also, it's not a bad music track on the trailer).

Happily Hack Your Way Through Happy Dungeons

about X hours ago from

ToyLogic is following up their popular action/adventure title, Happy Wars, with a free-to-play action-RPG affair, Happy Dungeons. The title will enter the Xbox One early access program, Xbox Game Preview, next week.Up to four players can team up, either online or locally, to hack and slash your way through the joyous dungeons. There will be quests to undertake, bosses to slay, and loot to claim. ToyLogic hasn't given out a lot of information about how the free-to-play model will work out here, but Happy Wars featured packs of items you could buy with their premium currency as a way to shortcut the usual routine of gambling for them using in-game money. Hopefully, the pay aspects will follow a similar model and not be anything too bad.Happy Dungeons will be available to download for free next Wednesday, August 3, on the Xbox One. The title will be early access and, therefore, subject to updates/changes before it sees a full release later this year.

Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide Finally Hits Consoles Later This Year

about X hours ago from

Well, stuff me with flies and call me Nurgle.  They finally did it.  Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide has a release date for its console ports.  Now, I'm no game developer, and as such, have absolutely no clue how difficult it is to herd all those virtual Skaven to their new homes.  Far be it from me to call anyone out on the length between PC and console releases, but I've wanted so badly for my PlayStation 4 and Xbox One brethren to stab, crush, and poison their way through the apocalyptic Old World that my desire began to verge on actual, physical pain.We reviewed Vermintide when it came out on PC last year and couldn't stop singing its praises.  In fact, we were so enamored with Ubersreik and its furry new inhabitants, the game got our coveted 2015 Golden Fitty Award (also known as Game of the Year).  If you haven't had a chance to see loot-based first person shooter in action, check out the console announcement trailer below.Vermintide supports four player online co-op, so gather a few friends and decide which of you will play the ornery dwarf and which will play the vaguely Irish wood elf.

Overcooked Out Next Week

about X hours ago from

Ah, the joys of being a short order cook.  You fry, you chop, you serve, and all of it just for a glimpse of joy on your customers' faces when their Eggs Over My Hammy finally arrives.  Overcooked aims to condense that experience into a four player local co-op adventure in which you and three friends ascend from "The Barney Fife of Kitchens" to "Culinary Michael Jordan".We had an opportunity to interview the duo who developed Overcooked, Ghost Town Games, back in March.  It's a great read, especially if you're interested in the game's many design choices and inspirations.  If you'd prefer to see it in action, why not check out this video of the folks over at Double Fine testing their short order mettle. As you can see, the game gets hectic pretty quickly and follows a recent trend of local co-op games revolving around the "scream at each other and hope everything turns out okay" mechanic.  I'm typically not the type of person to raise my voice past conversational volume, but I gotta admit, there's a strange appeal to yelling at someone about a patty being undercooked and threatening to dock their wages.  If that's not a mechanic in the game yet, it should be.

Spareware Headed to PC this Fall

about X hours ago from

Rusto Games is bringing their top-down robot shooter, Spareware, to a PC near you. The title was released for the Xbox One this past March and the Finnish developer has been working to port it over to Windows, OS X, and Linux platforms. The PC version will be out this fall, with the OS X and Linux versions to follow. The title will support four players locally throughout the main campaign with each player being able to customize their little robot of death and mayhem. There's an update planned, as well, that will add a new campaign (set in future Las Vegas) to enjoy with your friends, new weapons, new minibosses, and a melee combat system. No word on when that update will drop, but it will be available on the Xbox One and PC when it does arrive.Spareware is currently available for the Xbox One via the Xbox Store for $9.99.
