Talent Not Included Co-Op Review

Frima Studios’ second endeavor into the realm of platformers is a very different affair from Chariot. While it retains much of the humor and charm as its predecessor, Talent Not Included is far more focused on attracting the leaderboard-chasing crowd than providing a good co-op experience.

Necropolis: Brutal Edition Stream Recap

about X hours ago from

Harebrained Schemes' dungeon crawler, Necropolis, has received a fair number of patches since its release in July with the biggest one yet dropping just a couple weeks ago. Patch 1.1 added a whole new environment, new enemies, new weapons, and, perhaps most important of all, a new playable class: the Brute. Locke and I decided to spend a little time with the "Brutal Edition" of the game to see how it fares. The biggest sticking point with Necropolis for me is that I can't really get a good sense for where it fits in the pantheon of rouglikes that are out there now. The action portion works well enough and teaming up with a friend or three makes the journey better, but that feels like it's all it has to offer. It's humor, which seems to be based around poking fun at Dark Souls, could really help it stand out from the crowd; but it never quite sticks the landing and in some places, such as item descriptions, it seems more concerned with delivering a punch line rather than useful information.

Check Out Skylanders Imaginators in Action in New Trailer

about X hours ago from

Toys-to-life fans have just one more month to wait before Skylanders Imaginators hits the retail shelves. The newest entry to the franchise allows players to create their own Skylanders thanks to the new "Creation Crystal" toy.The Creation Crystals allow you to pick your own Battle Class, appearance, and catchphrases in order to build your very own Skylander in-game. Each Crystal is associated with a particular element, e.g., fire or water, so you'll be able to make a water-based Bowslinger or a light-based Sorcerer depending on the Crystal you use. In addition to these "Imaginators," there are over 30 Sensei characters that vary by Battle Class and element. If you pair up an Imaginator and a Sensei of the same Battle Class, new weapons and abilities will open up for the Imaginator allowing you to explore new areas in the game.Skylanders Imaginators releases in North America on October 16, 2016 for the Xbox One, Nintendo Wii U, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PlayStation 4. Two player local co-op is supported throughout the game.

Get Your Destiny Hype with the New Rise of Iron Launch Trailer

about X hours ago from

The next big expansion, Rise of Iron, for Destiny is out next week, and I'm a little excited for it. I mean, c'mon... just look at that armor! I want to get a cat-ear hood for my Hunter.Last year's expansion, The Taken King, added an entire new story campaign, a new raid, new gear and exotics, a new patrol area, and more. There were hidden secrets to be found and some great dialogue with Nathan Fillion. Rise of Iron is promising more of the same and the launch trailer is certainly doing its job to get me hyped up for its impending release.Rise of Iron will launch on September 20 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Major updates and content for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions has been discontinued as of August 18, 2016, but Bungie does have a process for upgrading (read transferring) if you end up buying a current-gen console.

Battlezone on PSVR Will Have Four Player Online Co-Op

about X hours ago from

When they're not figuring out how to make sniper bullets move in the slowest of motions and cause the worst kind of damage to some people, UK developer Rebellion has been working on a modern take of the '80s arcade title Battlezone. The game is slated for release next month on the PlayStation 4 (a PlayStation VR headset is required to play) and it was revealed today that it will support four player online co-op when it launches. The original Battlezone put you in the cockpit of a tank that rotated around a vector drawn world shooting the enemy tanks that popped up every so often. The arcade cabinet even featured a "periscope" viewfinder for looking out. This modernized version has some upgraded graphics, though it's still keeping that vector line style. The cockpit view is moved into the VR headset and you'll be able to look around to check your radar, mission objectives, ammo remaining, and more.

The Coalition Details Gears of War 4 Horde 3.0 Mode

Just before this year's PAX West, Gears of War 4 developer The Coalition revealed the revamped Horde 3.0 mode and had it available to play on the PAX show floor. Now that the dust from that has settled, the dev is ready to talk some specifics about the mode. The two biggest additions to this version of the infamous Gears Horde mode are classes and player-built fortifications, such as turrets and barriers. While the reveal video showed off these features, there wasn't a whole lot of information about what those features actually mean in terms of gameplay. In a recent blog post, The Coalition went into further details and here are a few of the highlights:

Indie-Ana Co-Op and the Mutant Football League Interview

For some, invoking the name of the Mutant League series of games brings back fond memories of raining death upon an opposing team in football, or dismembering a hockey player, or possibly even an animated series. For its creator, Michael Mendheim, it's a little bit more and after 20+ years out of the limelight, he intends to bring it back with Mutant Football League. We spoke with Michael about reviving this title and what makes it fun.

Co-Op Puzzle Platformer Trials of Azra Leaves Early Access

about X hours ago from

Here's something a little different for your evening co-op adventures. Trials of Azra is a puzzle platformer from Onion Core with a central mechanic that focuses on killing things, then inhabiting their corpses to use to solve puzzles. Slay a rat? Great! Now hop inside and run through some tiny passageways! The body switching, puzzle platforming set-up isn't anything new, but Trials of Azra does some really fun things with the feature. Each slain monster has its own abilities that help you traverse the dungeon landscape. Rats are small, that's a given. Those green eye guys can jump something serious. The zombies with the huge shield also come in handy, especially when there's spear traps in the way. Switch back and forth between Sam and his chosen corpse, but you can only control one dead body at a time.Puzzles get really clever when Sam has to work out which body needs to go where and at what time. Since he has to stand next to a corpse to inhabit it, this can lead to some crazy positioning problems. Puzzles are stretched out on a room by room basis, however, so you can always reset if you get stuck.
