Check Out Watch Dogs 2's Co-Op in Action

about X hours ago from

Watch Dogs 2 will be available (on the consoles, at least) in just a couple weeks. In anticipation of its impending release, some advanced copies have been sent out to a few folks so they can get hands on with it. Polygon's Nick Robinson captured a few hours worth of the game, including 25 minutes of the game's cooperative play. This is some of the first footage we've seen that shows what Watch Dogs 2's co-op experience is like. In the video, Nick joins up with another player to infiltrate a facility and download some data (and pose for a picture). They flee from the scene of the crime and take on a new mission to download some data from a rival NPC hacker. The hacker tries to get away, but Nick uses the stun gun to knock him out (it's easier to download from a target when they're not moving). Finally, Nick and his co-op buddy infiltrate another facility run by a biker gang to... yeah, download some more data...While the repeated objectives aren't terribly exciting, it does sound like both players have access to all the abilities/skills/weapons they've unlocked in their individual playthroughs up until that point. There's one point where Nick's co-op buddy uses a hack skill that Nick hasn't unlocked just yet, so it's good to know that players can join up with one another regardless of progress.

Gunnihilation Will Get Spooky with Witches and Broomsticks Update

The chaotic bullet-hell platform shooter Gunnihilation has been in Steam Early Access for about a month now, and developer Robo Pixel Games has been listening to the community and their feedback. Next week, the first big update to the title will hit on Halloween and bring with it some requested fixes, as well as some new content. The update is titled "Witches and Broomsticks" and will feature, appropriately enough, a "Halloween mission with three full acts, unique enemies, and a never-seen-before boss." This free update will also include a new survival level and a new weapon for the game.Gunnihilation is currently available via Steam Early Access for $14.99. It supports four player local co-op throughout the campaign.

Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel DLC Impressions

Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel DLC Impressions

I haven’t revisited Dark Souls 3 since devoting a week of my life to it back when it was released. Being forced back into the world of Lothric wasn’t as jarring as I would have imagined. It feels good to swing a sword, cast some spells, and pick up the game again. This time I head into the first piece of downloadable content titled Ashes of Ariandel.Thrust into a frigid winter wonderland, Ashes of Ariandel is similar to the painted world we saw in Dark Souls. In the original game, you accessed the painted world of Ariamis by touching a painting and getting sucked into the world. In Dark Souls 3, a new NPC who invites the player to touch a piece of a painting, immediately teleporting them to a new area filled with rotting crows, packs of wolves, and Vikings. The first messages scattered throughout the ground are permanent, warnings from the developers telling the player to turn back if they haven’t finished the game proper. In Dark Souls speak this means the path ahead will be difficult and is meant for high level characters. I’ve sunk triple digit hours into Dark Souls 3, and I can hold my own in PVP, but I still found this DLC to be very challenging - a sentiment echoed by my fellow Ashen Ones.

Overcooked: Gourmet Edition Out Now

about X hours ago from

Everyone, fire up your grills and get ready to yell at your friends/coworkers.  Overcooked: Gourmet Edition is out in physical form.  Now, I get it.  You (presumably) like your friends and don't want to scream at them for the sake of enjoyment.  Trust me, though.  It's gonna happen, whether you want it to or not.  Let's say you play Overcooked with your pals, and a few levels go by without a hitch.  You're slapping mushroom soup on plates, cleaning dishes, and keeping folks happy.  Then, out of nowhere, the game wants you to start making fish sandwiches on top of the soups you've grown so used to.  On top of that, your kitchen is now on a floating block of ice.  All of a sudden, you've got an order that's about to run out of time and there isn't a fried piece of fish in sight and that's insane because why wouldn't your friends be cooking any fish and WHAT'S A GUY GOT TO DO AROUND HERE TO GET A GOSH DARN PIECE OF FRIED FLIPPIN' FISH AROUND HERE.

Turtle Rock Studios No Longer Involved in Evolve Stage 2

Turtle Rock Studios No Longer Involved in Evolve Stage 2

Last summer, we were all surprised to see Evolve make a revival in the form of Evolve Stage 2. The 4vs1 FPS shifted format from being a $60 paid title to a free-to-play game with some enhancements and some slimming down from everything it offered. A co-op mode was added just last month, but sadly, it seems that none of this was enough to keep the game going. As of yesterday, Turtle Rock Studios will no longer be handling its development. The announcement came from the developer and the publisher, 2K Studios. In their farewell post on their community site, Turtle Rock Studios talked about how much they enjoyed working on the title and how much they appreciate the support from the community through all its ups and downs. The last five and a half years represents so much. We are so proud of Evolve, the Turtle Rock team and the Evolve community. Getting on the forums, Reddit, Facebook and Twitch and talking directly to you has been a highlight of many of our careers. On no other project have we ever been able to interact so directly. The Evolve community is the best we could have hoped for and we hope you come with us and become a part of the Turtle Rock community.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Out Now on Consoles, Tomorrow for PC

about X hours ago from

If your hair turns blonde every time you "power up," then you might be interested in knowing that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is hitting Steam tomorrow. The follow-up to the 2015 fighting/role-playing/"MMO-lite" title now allows up to six players to team up online to tackle some of the toughest foes in the Dragon Ball universe. This title slipped under our radar for the longest time, so apologies on just now getting the word out. Much like the first game, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will let you create your own fighter to do battle against the familiar foes of the anime/manga and earn gear, power ups, cosmetic items, and all sorts of other goodies to make your custom fighter look like a cross between a bull and a space marine. The biggest change, on the co-op side at least, is that the specific team-based challenge missions now support up to six players.Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is out now for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and will arrive on the PC tomorrow.

Gears of War 4's Horde Mode Got an Update Last Week

The Coalition pushed an update to Gears of War 4 last Friday (in the midst of the "Great Internet Outage") to address some of the complaints players had about how quickly experience and credits are earned in Horde matches (both Public and Private). The stealth patch was pushed out late in the day on Friday so some folks may have missed it. Here are the notes from the announcement post:Hopefully these changes mean a friendlier Horde environment for all as you'll always be getting something for your efforts.

More Co-Op Means More Sales for Shadow Warrior 2

about X hours ago from

Flying Wild Hog's Shadow Warrior 2 has been out for a couple weeks now on PC. In that span of time, sales for the title are nearly quadruple that of the original that was released in 2013. We chalk it up to the inclusion of co-op this time around. The Polish development team has continued working on the title even after its release and have some free content lined up. The first of these will be adding the infamous katana from the first game, the Nobitsura Kage, to the world. Future content updates will include new missions, weapons, and items, as well as a new "ultra-hard challenge mode."The team also released a "behind the schemes" video in which they discuss Shadow Warrior 2's development and what influenced them. I'm always a fan of these videos as the thought processes and efforts that go into making games has always fascinated me.
