Take to the Skies in Sky Force Anniversary on Xbox One

First released as a mobile shmup, Sky Force was lauded as one of the better vertical-scrolling shoot 'em ups on that particular platform. Years later, Sky Force Anniversary made its way onto the PC, PlayStation 4, Playstation 3, and PlayStation Vita platforms, and now, as of last Thursday, the Xbox One.The game features a single-player campaign and a separate co-op mode for two players locally. The co-op mode lets you replay the same levels from the campaign, but you'll face additional challenges, such as rescuing all the civilians in the level. While the first player can earn stars/medals and progress, the second player is only a copy of the first and just drops in as a second support ship, essentially.Sky Force Anniversary is available on the Microsoft/Xbox Store for $9.99.

Co-Op Shooter Earthfall Will Support HDR on PS4 Pro and Xbox One S

about X hours ago from

While it will take a little while longer for the technology to reach a price point where everyone can enjoy 4K and HDR, that's not going to stop devs from getting the games out there that will take advantage of the graphical fidelity it provides. Seattle-based Holospark's debut FPS title, Earthfall, will join the ranks of those titles you will, someday, be able to enjoy in that higher res future. The game made its debut during this year's PAX West and somehow managed to slip past our radar at the time. This sci-fi FPS is set in the Pacific Northwest and follows a "ragtag group of survivors" as they combat an invading alien menace. It supports four player co-op throughout the campaign and, from the sound of it, is actually intended to be played through with a group as the A.I. will assume control of other characters if human players aren't available. No release date is set just yet for the title, but it will be released for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One sometime in 2017. HDR will be supported on the Xbox One S and 4K resolution with HDR will be supported on the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Westerado: Double Barreled Arrives on Xbox One

Westerado: Double Barreled Arrives on Xbox One

One of my favorite PC releases last year was Westerado: Double Barreled. This arcade-y semi-open-world title not only drew inspiration from Spaghetti Westerns, but parodied them as well. And now, you and a buddy can embark upon this tale of revenge together on the Xbox One.Your main objective in Westerado: Double Barreled is to track down the gunman who murdered your family by going around the world talking to its inhabitants and gathering pieces of information about him (or her). You can play along with people, or, in true Western fashion, you can just pull your gun on them and try to force it out of them, though that may have consequences. The game supports two player local co-op throughout the campaign, albeit with the caveat that the second player is tagging along for much of that campaign. Only the first player can actively engage with other characters or buy items while the second player is relegated to the "second shooter" role.Westerado: Double Barreled is available for the Xbox One for $7.99 (a $2.00 discount) until this Friday, December 16.

Wild Guns: Reloaded Gets U.S. and Europe Release Date

about X hours ago from

The SNES Classic Wild Guns is getting a little bit of a remake with Wild Guns: Reloaded, which was announced earlier this year for a Japanese release. Now, the remake will be making its way to U.S. and European shores next week.So what all will you get with this remake? Well, in addition to new stages and new bosses, you'll also get two new playable characters and the ability to play the game with up to three other people! That's a 100% increase in characters and players from the original! The title will let you play through the entire campaign with your buddies, shooting up all those enemies and bosses along the way.Wild Guns: Reloaded will be available for the PlayStation 4 in the U.S. and Europe on December 20. There will be a physical version available for sale on Amazon for $29.99, though its listing will only show up on the release date. No word on what the digital edition will cost. Hopefully, it will be a bit cheaper.

Match Colors With a Friend in Alien Evaders

about X hours ago from

Endless runners on mobile phones have become quite the phenomenon these days. Even Nintendo is getting into it, though they are taking it on with their own approach. Indie developer Hungry Dog Games is doing their own thing as well by bringing co-op into that genre with their PC title, Alien Evaders.Like any endless runner, there is no set goal in Alien Evaders; you just keep going for as long as possible. The trick here is that your alien is headed down a set lane with colored barriers that keep approaching you. In order pass through the barrier, you must change the color of your alien to match. When playing with another person locally, this adds some interesting twists as you have to coordinate your color shifts. If a blue barrier comes at you, both players must be blue. If an orange barrier approaches, then one player must shift to red while the other shifts to yellow.Alien Evaders is available on itch.io on a "pay what you like" model. It supports two players locally and also has a four player local mode where teams of two can compete to see who gets the farthest.
