Guns of Icarus: Alliance Impressions and Interview (PAX East 2017)

At PAX East, I had the very pleasant experience of an in-depth interview with Howard Tsao, the Team Lead for Guns of Icarus: Alliance (henceforth, Alliance). We discussed everything Alliance has to offer players as well as the trials and tribulations of developing Guns of Icarus and its ambitious expansion.Alliance, you may recall, is the co-op focused expansion to Guns of Icarus Online, a game that was primarily competitive. Rather than players shooting their ships at each other, in Alliance 1-4 people can run a ship together and combat AI-controlled ships. Much like the Left 4 Dead games, Alliance employs an AI director, which provides a dynamic experience. This director controls things like when and where enemies will respawn in addition to studying and reacting to the human players.

Goat Simulator's "Waste Of Space" DLC Out Now On PS4

about X hours ago from

At long last, PlayStation 4 users can experience man's greatest achievement:  sending goats to space.  Soon, they can bounce their virtual hooves around in low-grav environments, eat space trash, and just experience the things that typically happen when you put goats in atmospheres without oxygen.Goat Simulator's "Waste of Space" DLC is out on PlayStation 4 today, and the folks at Sony were kind enough to offer up of its highlights, as well as a trailer:Goat Simulator's two player local co-op is the perfect chance for you and a partner to really cut loose and goat out.  At this point, it's out on just about every available platform, so it's worth at least taking a look at.

Solstice Chronicle: MIA - Early Alpha First Look

about X hours ago from

Solstice Chronicles: MIA was announced back in August and since that time has found its way onto crowd funding platform FIG. The game is currently just a few dollars short of its goal, so hopefully by the time you've read this its been fully funded. If you don't know about the game, its a tactical twin-stick shooter set in the "Solstice" universe coming PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. What exactly makes it tactical? From my hands on time with the game I can tell you its about limited ammo and positioning as to not get yourself trapped. On top of this the familiar threat level is present within a level as well, with the monsters and enemies increasing in difficulty and numbers while you try to complete your objective, very similar to The Red Solstice. The version of the game I played is still pretty early, but its easy to see an RPG style system being built where character choices will need to be made to fit your playstyle. Your drone will play a key role in this, with its abilities customized to your liking as well - in my case my drone would drop a turret to dispose of enemies when getting overrun.

Madballs Babo Goes Backwards Compatabo

about X hours ago from

The list of Backward Compatible games for the Xbox One is ever increasing with classic title, after classic title.  Sometimes the games are not quite that classic, but fun to have anyway.  Co-Optimus still loves you Madballs in Babo: Invasion.Out of the four new games that have come to Backwards Compatibility this week, Babo is probably down on the list to get excited by.  However, whilst Street Fighter IV, Luxor 2, Poker Smash may grab the headlines its Madballs that interests the discernible Co-Optimus reader.Madballs may have slipped many of you by in the past, but it is a very fun 4 player online co-op game that combines Marble Madness with Twin Stick Shooting.  You can play as some of the classic Madballs themselves from the 80s or on the 360 version you could roll around as your Avatar's head.

Sniper Elite 4's First DLC Is Out Tomorrow

So, you've beaten Sniper Elite 4.  You mowed down wave upon wave of Nazis and presumably killed Space Hitler, thereby saving Earth.  Or whatever.  What's a grizzled sniper to do when there aren't any bad guys left to hunt?  Well, you could spend the rest of your days contemplating the meaning of life and death in the context of your murder-career, or you could wait patiently until more bad guys inevitably crop up.As it just so happens, you won't have to wait for too long.  SE4's first DLC pack, titled "Deathstorm Part 1: Inception", is out on March 21st.  In it, you'll be travelling to Northern Italy to infiltrate a recently bombed Nazi naval base and obtain a SUPER SECRET package related to Project Manhattan.  Sounds like fun!The game offers two player online co-op for those of us who don't enjoy crawling through Nazi-infested shipyards all by our lonesome.  We reviewed it recently and were quite pleased with what we found.  The Sniper Elite series may not deviate strongly from iteration to iteration, but it's done a solid job of building on itself with each new release.

Halo Wars 2 Co-Op Review

Halo Wars 2 Co-Op Review

Early on in Halo Wars 2, I kept getting the feeling that I had lived this all before in an almost dream-like way. I played through campaign mission after mission, trying to shake the feeling and find my 'Ah-ha!' moment that would set the game apart, letting me tell my friends and associates of the special moments I wanted to share with...Read More

Hacktag Hands-On Impressions (PAX East 2017)

about X hours ago from

At PAX East last weekend, I went hands-on with asymmetrical stealth co-op game Hacktag. Created by Piece of Cake Studios (a studio completely dedicated to making co-op games and composed of industry vets), Hacktag impressed. My time with the game left me wanting to play and improve more.Hacktag is a 2-player cooperative game where one player takes on the role of the agent and the other takes on the role of the hacker. The game is set up to tell the story of these two mercenaries as they stick it to the man, stealing valuable data from big-time corporations. There are three separate campaigns with each campaign focused on one of three corporations. These campaigns each provide 4-6 hours of gameplay while telling a comprehensive story of the different corporations.
