Our Weekend In Gaming: Return Of GabeN

The Co-Opticrew is neck-deep in the Steam Summer Sale, and it's honestly a miracle any of us are still employed and not in debtor's prison.  Oddly enough, we're spending a lot of time on the Switch.  Perhaps the Nintendo Local Co-Op Renaissance has begun in earnest?Jason Love (@JLove55) - "Having finally cleared Yakuza 0 out of my "got this game started but didn't finish" catalog, NieR: Automata is the next logical choice for games to beat. But I got a Switch this week so Zelda it is!"Mike Katsufrakis (@Pheriannath) - "The fourteenth Final Fantasy game. Maybe I'll slot a little Diablo 3 in to play around with a Necromancer."

Classic Konami Characters Added to Super Bomberman R Roster

The latest entry in the Bomberman series, Super Bomberman R, has met with a lot of mixed reviews, but that's not stopping Konami from putting out more content for it. The latest updates adds a few new characters to the roster and they're going for a song as far the in-game currency is concerned.Simon Belmont from the Castlevania series, Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2 (and movie!) fame, and the Vic Viper ship from Gradius are all available to unlock for a mere 10 coins. Those coins are earned by competing against other players in the Multiplayer Battle mode, or by completing worlds in the co-op Story Mode. Full patch notes can be found on the "News" portion of the Super Bomberman R website.Any bets on when we'll get a Solid Snake bomber added?

Co-Optimus\' Best of GOG: Couch Co-Op Games

about X hours ago from

While there’s certainly advantages to living in a gaming era that emphasizes online co-op, couch co-op games will always hold a special place in many of our hearts. Therefore, we (the folks at Co-Optimus) were extremely pleased when the recently released Nex Machina brought back this nostalgic experience in fine form. As a game developed with local co-op as a core focus, Nex Machina absolutely thrives. That got us thinking about how PC games with strong couch co-op experiences can sometimes be difficult to find, so we compiled a list of our absolute top picks of couch co-op games on GOG (Good Old Games), presented in no particular order.

Orcs Must Die! Unchained Gets PS4 Release Date

about X hours ago from

Following their big overhaul of the system this past fall, Orcs Must Die! Unchained officially got released on the PC back in April. There have been a number of patches and updates since that time, including one that added a 3v3 PvP mode back into the game, and it appears the title is now at a point where it's good for a console release. The big update last November removed all of the PvP/MOBA style elements from the game and returned the title to its PvE killing orcs roots. For a time, the only two modes available to play were the classic Survival (build traps and fight off a fixed number of orcs) and Endless modes (go until the orcs beat you). There was still a roster of heroes with different stats and abilities from which you could choose and unlock using either in-game currency earned by playing, or the premium currency, but they no longer rotated out. Since that big shift, a PvP mode (Sabotage) has been added back into the game, as well as a new mode, Chaos Rifts, that provide seasoned players with a little extra challenge. As a platform for delivering more Orcs Must Die! content, it mostly works and is a pretty fun way to get some orc-killing action.

A Co-Op Bonanza Lands on Xbox One Backwards Compatibility

We all love new games the best, but getting access to games that we already own is enough for some of us.  Checking out your Xbox One 'Ready to Install' list and finding a forgotten XBLA title from the 360 is a joy.  Look at your list today as you may have one of three newly updated co-op titles. The three games on offer are not going to pull up any trees, but if you bought them before you may want to play them again.  Both Radiant Silvergun and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 offer solid, if not outstanding, co-op gameplay with Silvergun allowing 2 player local co-op and Commando 3 player online or offline co-op.The final game is Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII, which is from 2006 and pre-dates the famed Co-Optimus reviews.  Lets give it a 3 out of 5 like the others for balance!

Destiny 2 Launch Date

about X hours ago from

After a number of variations, expansions and tweaks to their previous work, Activision and Bungie have set a release date for the sequel, Destiny 2. On September 6th, 2017, PlayStation and Xbox One owners can begin their legend anew. While the September release is for consoles, PC Guardians-to-be will finally be able to take up arms on October 24th. This marks a different focus for Bungie, who had left PC players without any way to play the original Destiny. If you're so inclined, there are a number of editions you can buy as well, ranging from the Standard $59.99 version all the way up to the $249.99 Collector's Edition. Pre-ordering the game will also get you into the early access beta that's set to take place the weekend of July 18 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and sometime in August for PC.Destiny 2 is set to feature a number of cooperative features, ranging from the usual Strikes and Raids to the new addition of Clans and Guided Games. Previous modes are set to be similar to what they were in the first installment, with the newly-added ‘Guided Games’ coming along to help match-making. This mode aims to assist single-players in finding clans they can team up with to complete raids, while also allowing clans to use single-players to boost their numbers. Co-op fans rejoice!

Physical Version Of The Binding Of Isaac: Afterbirth+ Coming To PS4

The never-ending cycle of Binding of Isaac remakes, remasters, and re-releases continues with a brand new, physical version of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth Plus.  Per a tweet from the game's publisher, Nicalis, the game is getting its very own disc for PlayStation 4 users to inevitably break after a particularly heartbreaking run.For the (somehow) uninitiated, TBoI and its many offspring are roguelikes centered around a small, incredibly sad child and his quest to do... well, a number of things that I won't spoil for you.  To accomplish said quest, though, the player must work their way through a series of randomly generated levels and survive each segment using the game's twin-stick shooter combat. The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ coming to #PS4 at retail and digital Maybe with a PS4 preorder bonus! SNES Classic Coming This September With Some Classic Co-Op Titles

SNES Classic Coming This September With Some Classic Co-Op Titles

Following up on the popular, though limited, NES Classic this past holiday season, Nintendo announced yesterday that they are releasing an SNES Classic this September. The good news is that they're making more of them this go around, the bad news is it'll probably only be for this calendar year. This little emulator system will come with 21 SNES titles that may not encompass all your favorite childhood memories, but it'll be close. Personally, there's one title on the list (Secret of Mana) that stands out to me as all-time great and best of all it's co-op! Full list is below and we've marked with an asterisk those games that features local co-op.The SNES Classic is slated for a September 29 release date at the price of $80. As Kotaku reported yesterday, Nintendo plans on producing more of these systems than they did with the NES Classic, but the wording of that plan points towards it being for this year only. Specifically, the Nintendo rep with whom they spoke said, "At this time, we have nothing to announce regarding any possible shipments beyond this year." Maybe the popularity of the system will lead to more being produced in the new year, but who knows.
