Co-Op Details Provided for Absolver

about X hours ago from

We're a little over a week away from the start of the big fall release season, and one of the co-op titles you can enjoy starting on August 29 is Absolver, an "online multiplayer combat game" where players can create their own combat style. Though it's core is a 1v1 fighting game, there are some interesting co-op features, which the devs have recently talked about in some greater detail on the PlayStation Blog. We've known that Absolver would support three players online in some kind of PvE area for a little while, and the devs have gone into a little more detail about how that happens. There's a little bit of a Journey element to this, where you'll randomly come across other players as you explore the ruined world of the Aslan Empire. Per Pierre Tarno, Creative Director at Sloclap:...the city is made out of a dozen interconnected zones, and as you go from one zone to another, you will be connected with one or two other players also in that zone, without loading times. These two players may choose to spar together in an effort to share knowledge on different attacks, engage in a more aggressive fight, purposefully form a team for co-op PvE, or simply pass each other with no interaction at all…

Crackdown 3 Pushed into 2018

Microsoft is delaying the release of Crackdown 3 on the Xbox One and PC from Nov. 7, 2017 to spring 2018, the company told Polygon in an official email. The game was revealed at E3 2014 but has since been mostly a no-show to the gaming public. Many were worried about the state of the game, and it looks like that includes publisher Microsoft.“We’re very excited about Crackdown 3, and so are many fans, and so it’s a difficult call to move the release date, However, we want to make sure to deliver the right game, with the right quality, and at the right time. Crackdown 3 is a hugely ambitious game and we want to ensure we deliver the right experiences all the way through every part of the game, whether that’s campaign, co-op multiplayer or our competitive multiplayer mode, Wrecking Zone. Getting the balance right between the three modes is important, and we are going to take the extra development time to ensure that. Gamers can expect Crackdown 3 in Spring of 2018.”-Shannon Loftis, Microsoft Studios Publishing General Manager

Spellforce 3 Reminds You It's Still Around With A New Trailer

about X hours ago from

Spellforce, the longtime RTS/RPG franchise, has had a third title in the works for some time now.  When we last heard word of the latest sequel, it was said to be heading for a 2016 release.  That's obviously not the case, but regardless, developer Grimlore Games has been hard at work making what will hopefully be a worthy entry in Spellforce 3.Provided no further delays crop up, it'll hit digital shelves on December 7th of this year.  With that in mind, THQ Nordic has put out a brand new cinematic trailer to ensure the game will be fresh in our minds as we enter the busy end-of-year release window.  Go ahead, take a peek:We originally thought that the game's campaign would be strictly a single player affair (with the co-op mode being its own separate thing), but details have since emerged revealing that all thirty hours of the campaign will be playable in two player online co-op.  Cooperative RTS games are extremely slim pickings these days, so I'm very excited to give the game a look when it arrives this winter.

A Survival Mode is in the Works for Fortnite

about X hours ago from

Amidst the multitude of stability patches this week and last, Epic had some bigger news about their third-person shooting/building title, Fortnite. A portion of the dev team is devoted to adding a new Survival mode that will challenge players to fight off the hordes of Husks for up to 14 in-game days. The news came via a Dev Diary video last week as Executive Producer Zak Phelps and Creative Director Darren Sugg addressed the feedback they've received about game crashes across all platforms. The most recent series of patches, which have just about dropped daily since last Friday, have all been aimed at fixing those crashes and improving stability. Around the 3:15 mark they bust out the Survival mode news and it definitely sounds promising. The missions I've encountered thus far have largely been a variation of defending a single point for a set period of time, so having something with this sort of unique challenge where players will have to maintain a defense over the course of several in-game days could be fun. No specific dates are given for this big update, but they hope to get it out "end of August/early September."Fortnite is still in Early Access and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

New Survival Arena Mode Coming to Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

about X hours ago from

The newest Uncharted title, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, arrives next week and despite the campaign featuring two protagonists, there's still no sign of campaign co-op. However, the game does feature the same multiplayer/co-op Survival modes as Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, which will be receiving an update next week to add a new co-op mode. The mode, called "Survival Arena," is essentially a different take on the existing Survival mode. Per Scott Lowe, Senior Communications Manager at Naughty Dog, the mode:...[A]dds over 100 new waves with new enemy types, new Siege zones, and all-new wave modifiers. Survival Arena offers thousands of potential encounter combinations for you and up to two additional players to take on. For your efforts, you can also earn our new Savage Starlight Skeleton skins, unlockable through Survival Arena.
