about X hours ago from

The "Founder's Alpha" for Phoenix Labs' cooperative action-RPG/monster slaying title, Dauntless, has come to a close, but the Closed Beta kicks off later today at 3:00 PM EDT. You will have to buy into it if you're interested in checking it out, with the lowest price of entry being a $40 "Slayer" Founder's Pack.If you bought in at the $80 Founder's level and have been playing through the Alpha, then there will be new content for you to check out in the Beta. New Behemoths to slay, new weapons and armor to craft, new islands to explore, and further story content are all going to be dropped in with the Beta launch, with more content planned for the future as this thing runs its course. The new trailer teases just a little bit of what's in store, ending with a Behemoth that I never want to see again cause oh god my nightmares.Dauntless is available on the PC and supports up to four players in online co-op. It will be free-to-play when it eventually sees a full release later this year.

Latest Dev Video Shows Off The Crew 2's Flexibility

about X hours ago from

It looks like Ubisoft is really pushing the ability to fly/drive/boat your way across not-quite-America in The Crew 2.  Admittedly, it looks like a lot of fun, assuming everything works as smoothly as you'd hope, and even if it doesn't, there are lots of hijinx to be had in watching your boat slam into the streets of Detroit from 200 yards in the air.Their latest dev video highlights this flexibility and talks a little about how the game is focused on feedback from the motorsports community itself.  The way the game's shaping up, it sounds like that feedback was from one guy on a forum writing Xtreme NASCAR fanfiction, but hey, I've heard worse inspiration. The Crew 2 still has a way to go in terms of development, as it's not due out til March of next year, but hopefully Ubisoft has learned from the lackluster reception of their original release.  When it does arrive, you'll be able to team up with three other online players and participate in events and such, or just drive around the countryside and terrorize farmers.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr Now Available via Early Access

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr Now Available via Early Access

Neocore Games' action RPG, Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr, is now available via Steam Early Access. The Hungarian developer has some rather lofty goals in sight with this one, such as an "open world" that changes based on the (randomly generated) missions you accept and the choices you make during them. While there are single-player only campaign missions, the much grander Inquisitorial Campaign allows up to four players to team up to tackle a variety of missions. Within those missions, you'll be doing the usual clicking and looting that you find in Diablo and the like, but you'll also have specific objectives to complete. Some of those missions may even lead to new missions that are part of a "Grand Investigations." There's a lot of underlying mechanics at play here and I like the sound of it for a Warhammer 40,000 game, I'm just hoping that it all works out as intended.Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr is available via Steam Early Access for $44.99 (a 10% discount from the normal price of $49.99) until September 7. The full PC release should arrive early next year, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions after that.

New Grand Theft Auto V DLC Available

New Grand Theft Auto V DLC Available

The newest update to Grand Theft Auto V features a number of large changes and improvements to the skies of Grand Theft Auto Online. The DLC is titled “Smuggler’s Run” and adds (inhales deeply to read full list) a new hangar property, new cars, new planes, new clothes and even a new battle royal style game mode.Rockstar set its sights sky high, touting “...a massive range of new, customizable aircraft perfect for any mission along with expansive new aircraft hangars in which to stash your fleet of fantastic flying machines.” and while GTA V is almost 4 years old, its great to see a developer stand behind and believe in their game for an extended period (Skyrim, anyone?). It should be noted that the title, “Smuggler’s Run,” is openly referencing a game Rockstar published in 2000 for the PS2 and GameCube, and seeing a developer/publisher put things like that out there is fun, too. The full developer announcement can be found here.

Xbox Games With Gold For September

about X hours ago from

September will soon be upon us which means the best parts of the year are just around the corner; pumpkin spice everything, Halloween (which seems to be starting mid-August now), crispy and/or crunchy leaves on the ground, caramel corn as well as caramel apples and, best of all, my birthday. September also brings a new batch of free games to celebrate with Xbox’s Games With Gold, though sadly, only one co-op title in the bunch: Battlefield 3.While there are four titles offered in Microsoft’s Games With Gold, Battlefield 3 is what we here at Co-Optimus are excited about. Battlefield 3 was 2011’s version of the popular Battlefield series before the series explored a cops and robbers style slant in Battlefield Hardline, after which, the series returned to its military roots for 2016’s most recent installment into the series, Battlefield 1. The game features multiplayer as well as co-op gameplay with the latter coming in the shape of missions. These missions are quite difficult, with our own Nick Puleo fighting tooth-and-nail to succeed. You can read all of Nick’s thoughts here with our full review of Battlefield 3.
