The 2015 version of Star Wars Battlefront had a dedicated co-op mode (Skirmish) where you could tackle some specific co-op challenges with a buddy. The 2017 version of Star Wars Battlefront II will be getting something a little different in the form of an "Arcade" mode. The mode was unveiled in a recent PlayStation Blog post and finally provided some context around the separate co-op mode we've heard about for the past few months. This mode is, essentially, offline practice so you can "git gud" for the online PvP battles. You'll be able to team up with A.I. allies and go against A.I. bots in a 10-vs-10 battle, or control a Hero character and go up against a lot of foes. Much like the PvP battles, you'll be able to customize your character with a variety of weapons and abilities that you unlock (either in PvP or Arcade), so if there's a particular "build" you want to try, this is the place to do it. Along with that, though, there will be some unique "Battle Scenarios," which sound like they may be somewhat similar to the co-op challenges from Battlefront's Skirmish mode. All of this can be done with a friend locally on the consoles.
The LEGO games are very agile at grabbing the latest developments in the Marvel universe and making good use of them; be that adding the Guardians of the Galaxy or, like here, introducing The Inhumans. This family group live off planet and are getting their own TV show. Not one to miss out on the latest tie in, Black Bolt and co. feature in the latest trailer for the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2.The trailer highlights not only the various family members seen in The Inhumans, but also their home Attilan, which will be one of 18 locations that you can play in the game. The blending of several different Marvel worlds has been made possible by the game's storyline in which the antagonist has torn them all from time and space:A NEW vignette for LEGO® Marvel Super Heroes 2, spotlighting members of the Inhuman Royal Family, including Black Bolt, Medusa, Crystal, Karnak, Gorgon, Maximus and the lovable canine, Lockjaw, all in LEGO® form. Also showcased is their ancestral home, the Inhuman city of Attilan, which is one of 18 different iconic Marvel locations featured in the game, all ripped from time and space to form the expansive Open Hub World of Chronopolis.
We're coming to the close of September, which means Fall is officially kicking off. Next month is the appropriate time to start putting up Halloween decorations AND NOT THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST, CONVENIENCE STORES!!! Anyways, there are a handful of co-op title releases this week, like Cuphead and Total War: WARHAMMER 2, as well as the arrival of the SNES Classic and the final DLC for Nioh.Game ReleasesRAID: World War II (PC, consoles later) - supports four player online co-op. This WWII FPS takes the DNA of PAYDAY 2 and applies a different sort of formula to it. Rather than "Saving Private Ryan," you and your crew are out to loot as much from the Nazis as you can. Available today on PC via Steam, and on October 10, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Last week during this year's Tokyo Game Show, some of the development team behind the forthcoming Monster Hunter: World took to Capcom's stage to show off a few of the key features of the title, including the character creation, some of the story setup for this new entry, and the free-roam/exploration mode. The entire presentation is 42 minutes long, and while they talk a lot about the overall features, there's really not any discussion of the co-op here. However, if you're interested in just knowing more about Monster Hunter: World, then there are plenty of goodies. You can see the full intro of the game starting around the 7:35 mark, the character creator in action around 9:45, a little discussion of some of the NPCs you'll encounter around 20:00, and jumping into action and showing off the new Exploration Mode around 23:00. After that, it's a whole lot of monster slaying/hunting.Monster Hunter: World will release globally on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26, 2018. A PC version will hit sometime later.
Well, wouldn't you know it. I straight up forgot to post our regularly scheduled Weekend in Gaming article. To be honest with you all, I thought everything had been typed up and set to go, but apparently the insanity of the workweek took my mind into an alternate dimension. To those of you who spent the weekend in an aimless shuffle, realities thrown awry by not knowing our gaming plans, I apologize. For what it's worth, you can see what we presumably did below. There was a lot of Eurogaming, unique wrongdoings, and guilding wars. Check it out!Nick Puleo (@NickPuleo) - "Divinity Original Sin 2 is the best damn RPG I've played in a long time. All in this weekend."
While the co-op offerings may be limited to just bot matches, you can check out Overwatch for yourself this weekend if you're looking for something to do with friends. Starting now and running until 11:59 pm PDT Monday, September 25, download the title on PC, Xbox One, or PlayStation 4, and enjoy the team-based shooter that took 2016 by storm. The biggest news from the world of Overwatch lately was the addition of a new playable character, Doomfist. Within the lore/world of Overwatch, Doomfist leads the evil organization Talon. Within the game, Doomfist is a melee-focused character that utilizes special moves that, in some ways, are reminiscent of a fighting game character (e.g., his "Rising Uppercut") and are most effective when chained together to take out your foes.Head over to the Overwatch blog if you want to get a breakdown for the times in your particular time zone, and enjoy the free weekend!
Sequels are all the rage these days between Destiny 2 and Larian Studios' Divinity: Original Sin II. We checked out the former during the console and PC betas, so we thought we'd hop into something a little different this week and dove into the cRPG sequel. As you might imagine, things went horribly awry five minutes into it...In all fairness, it's Nick's fault that I got searched and caused everyone to get mad. If had just left the dead body alone, then that one Magister wouldn't have gotten upset and it would have been perfectly fine that I stole a book!Anyways, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is really great so far. The first game offered a pretty incredible level of deep roleplaying mechanics, and this expands upon that even more with the four player co-op and new Game Master mode. It's the closest I've come to playing a tabletop RPG in a digital format, and I think that's pretty great.
The fall releases just keep coming, folks. Road Redemption, a spiritual successor to the popular Road Rash games of the early/mid-90s, will be leaving Early Access on Steam and making its full debut on October 4. Grab some friends, and get ready to ride!Road Redemption supports four player local co-op throughout the campaign. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are planned for release at a later date.
A co-op jewel of the last few years is making one of the least surprising moves possible. Asteroid Base's fantastic title, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, will be available on the Nintendo Switch starting October 3rd.Looking back, this move probably seemed inevitable given Nintendo's current indie infatuation and Lovers' potential synergy with the console, but let's just take a moment and celebrate the fact that it's becoming a reality. I'll give you all some time to yourselves.Perfect. With that out of the way, how about we reacquaint ourselves a bit by watching the game's Switch trailer.
