Octodad: Dadliest Catch Coming to the Switch

Octodad: Dadliest Catch Coming to the Switch

Young Horses Games has announced that their octopus dad sim, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on November 9th. If you somehow missed noticing this singularly unique game when it originally released back in 2014, Octodad is about a caring father and husband who just happens to be an octopus in disguise. To maintain his lifestyle, Octodad must continue to blend into human society. Understandably (being an octopus), this is a struggle. The co-op mode tasks up to four players with controlling Octodad's tentacles. You can learn more about how that works in practice in our Co-op Review, but it seems to me that the Switch may offer a stronger implementation of this goofy form of co-op than the game's other platforms.Octodad: Dadliest Catch will be available in the Nintendo eShop for $14.99 on November 9th.

New Limited Time Co-Op Event Arrives for SMITE

about X hours ago from

Hi-Rez Studios has added another limited time co-op event for SMITE, the mythical gods battling simulator. While the core of the game is a 5v5 MOBA-style title, you can battle against bots with friends and, occasionally, the developers feature some other ways to co-op via special events called "Adventures." These events switch out every six weeks and the latest, "Shadows Over Hercopolis," brings a little action-RPG fun to the mix."Shadows Over Hercopolis" is added to the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 versions of the game with the 4.21 patch today. The setup appears to be that Loki has kidnapped Hercules so it's up to your merry band of gods to battle through Loki's dungeon and rescue the son of Zeus. There will be lesser enemies to fight, puzzles to solve, and huge bosses with multiple stages that require significant teamwork to overcome. Beating a boss rewards your group with some sweet loot that will power you up so you can face even greater evils. It supports up to three players to team up online - each using their god of choice - and will be available until patch 4.24, which likely will drop sometime in December. More info can be found over on the SMITE website.

Our Weekend In Gaming: I'm Losing My Mind

Alright, guys.  It was funny the first few times these articles were filled with Destiny 2 plans, but it's starting to get kinda old.  At least our site owner, Nick, knows when it's time to move on, right?  Let me just take a gander at his... oh.  Huh.  Well, whatever, everyone has their own joke threshold.  I know!  I bet our lead editor, Jason, will have the decency to take this fun goof offline... oh, come on.  Even Locke?  Really?  At least I can trust myself to finally toss this fun jest in the trash.  Let's see here, FIFA sounds good, Picross S sure is fun...... oh, no.

Mortal Empires DLC for Total War: WARHAMMER 2 Available

about X hours ago from

It was promised when the title was announced earlier this year and Creative Assembly has delivered. The free "Mortal Empires" DLC was put up on Steam last week and owners of both Total War: WARHAMMER 2 and Total War: WARHAMMER can now play as 12 of the possible 13 factions (Norscans will be added later) across a large map that combines the "Old World" map from the first game with the "Eye of the Vortex" of the second. There's a catch to all of this, naturally. While the "Mortal Empires" DLC is free to download and install, and it also supports two player online co-op, you have to own both games in order to play it. That caveat applies to both players, too. So, if you've got a friend that only picked up Total War: WARHAMMER 2 after you raved about it and the first one, then they cannot join you in a Mortal Empires campaign even if you host it because they only own one of the games. So, yes, the DLC is "free" if you've forked over $120 to buy both games.

Monster Hunter: World Beta Coming to PS4 Next Month

about X hours ago from

While Paris Games Week officially kicks off today, Sony was out in front of it all with some news of their own. Revealed during their pre-show press event, Monster Hunter: World will be getting a PlayStation 4 exclusive beta next month, and some additional special content. The open beta will run from December 9 to December 12 and all you'll need to participate is a PlayStation Plus membership. No sign up or limited space thing here, just go download the beta when it goes up on the PSN Store next month. The beta itself will include three specific hunt missions (a Great Jagras and an Anjanath in the Ancient Forest, and a Barroth in the Wildspire Waste) and it will support four player online co-op as well. There will also be a variety of weapons, Mantles, and other goodies you can try, as Community Manager Yuji Araujo detailed in the PlayStation Blog post:Aside from your robust arsenal of 14 unique weapon types, we’re also equipping you with a variety of new Mantles to try out, a full stock of healing, buffing and trapping items, and one of the most powerful tools introduced in Monster Hunter: World — the environment itself! As you explore each unique location, take a moment to note entangled vines, rock formations and even water leaks, as these may be clues for potential natural traps you can use in your hunt.

Curse of Osiris DLC for Destiny 2 Dated

about X hours ago from

While the trailer for the first expansion to Destiny 2, "Curse of Osiris," was shown during Sony's press event at Paris Games Week, more details always have a habit of coming out once the big reveal is over. This time, though, it seems there isn't too much else to share. The initial rumors that were heard last month were spot on and the only real new bit of info is the release date (December 5 for every platform) and the increased Character/Power levels (25 and 330, respectively). When the DLC arrives next month, players will be able to head to Mercury, a planet that has only ever been a setting for PvP matches, to take on new quests/missions, hang out in a new social space (the Lighthouse), play new Strikes, puzzle through a new Raid, and enjoy new loot.Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It supports three player co-op throughout. The "Curse of Osiris" DLC will be available on December 5. No price has been announced yet, but it is part of the Season Pass if you've picked that up. The next expansion to the game should arrive sometime in Spring 2018.

Guacamelee! 2 Announced At Paris Games Week

about X hours ago from

One of the more charming, interesting, and fun "Metroid-vania" style games I've played in the past few years was DrinkBox Studios' Guacamelee! During Sony's pre-show conference yesterday for Paris Games Week, the sequel got announced. Get ready to rrrrrrrrrrruuuuuummmmbbbbbllllleeee! While the original supported just two players, Guacamelee! 2 will support four player drop-in/drop-out local co-op throughout the campaign. Awww yeah! Now you and your gaming buddies can all don your luchador masks and drop some flying elbows on foes. There weren't a lot of details about the game shared during the brief reveal/announcement trailer, but there was a bit more subsequent posting on the PlayStation blog. The sequel is set seven years after the events of the first game and Juan Aguacate must once again set out to save Mexico. At his disposal he'll have some new abilities, like the "Eagle Boost" that can be used to grapple onto and fling off of certain points, and a more powerful chicken transformation.
