Distrust Stream Recap

Game developers often take inspiration for their video games from a variety of sources. In the case of Cheerdealers, who are based out of Siberia, they used not only their real-life experience in a harsh environment, but also the paranoia and horror of John Carpenter's "The Thing" as inspiration for their co-op title, Distrust. We did our best to make it as far as possible, but, uh, let's just say none of us are "survival experts."

Take A Look At Some Of The Nations Included In Civilization VI: Rise And Fall

about X hours ago from

When Civilization VI's first expansion hits early next year, it'll bring nine new historical leaders into the fray (among many other changes and additions, of course).  Naturally, many players were just begging for details ahead of release, and Firaxis has been kind enough to preview three of nations already:  Korea, the Netherlands, and Mongolia.Queen Seondeok leads the Koreans, whose primary focus appears to be research and also chopping down their foes with their unique unit, the bolt-firing Hwacha.Next up is Queen Wilhelmina, the Dutch monarch whose grace and charm helped her achieve the longest reign in the nation's history.  The Dutch are, naturally, focused on coastlines and oceanic trade routes.

Destiny 2 Seasonal Event, The Dawning, Kicks Off Today

During TwitchCon this past October, Bungie stated that they'd start up special events again once the second season for Destiny 2 kicked off in December. Today, players can enjoy some winter-y themed activities as "The Dawning" arrives in the Tower and Farm, and offers up some special gear that will be available for a limited time. The Dawning event starts today, December 19 at 12:00 pm EST and comes to an end at roughly the same time on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. It's open to all players regardless if you own the recent "Curse of Osiris" expansion or not. There will be a special weekly milestone added to the list of activities during this time, and completing that milestone will reward you with a special Dawning Engram that can be redeemed at Tess Everis' shop for some Dawning-themed gear. In addition to the gear, the "Mayhem" variant returns to the PvP-centered Crucible, and players will find piles of snow in Strikes that let you hurl snowballs at foes and stun them.If you're looking for an excuse to hop back into Destiny 2 for a bit, then here it is. We'll have our Co-Op Review of the title as it stands now as the year comes to a close later this week, so be sure to check back in to read our thoughts on how the game fares.

Open Beta for Metal Gear Survive Arrives Next Month

about X hours ago from

Konami's open-world action/adventure title, Metal Gear Survive, has an official launch date of February 20, 2018, but folks will have a chance to check it out and play it for a few days next month. There will be an open beta period starting on January 18 and wrapping up on January 21.The beta will focus on the co-op mode of the game and include three different missions across two maps, but you can play those missions with up to three other people. It seems that this will be limited to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One only (sorry PC players), and an Internet connection will be required. It's interesting, though, that the news post announcing the beta only mentions an Xbox Live Gold subscription being needed in order to play the game online on the Xbox One, nothing about a PS+ subscription on the PlayStation 4. Possibly that means that folks on the PlayStation 4 can enjoy the beta regardless and only need a PSN account. Participating in the beta will net you a few bonus goodies, including a Metal Gear Rex head, that will be available in the full game when it comes out in February. The video below is largely focused on the single-player aspects of the game, but it will give you some idea of how it plays.

Escape From a Christmas-themed Prison Thanks to Free DLC for Escapists 2

about X hours ago from

Mouldy Toof and Team17 are getting into the Christmas spirit by releasing some new DLC for The Escapists 2 by putting you into a Christmas-themed prison from which you must escape. It also looks like you and your fellow inmates have to wear some elf hats and make things... Hmm....Here are the details on the prison itself from the announcement:Celebrate the festive season with this snowy free new prison that has it all: state of the art equipment, high tech security measures … and an overtly theatrical warden who has repurposed the sports hall as a theatre and is more concerned with putting on an extravagant pantomime than the wellbeing of his inmates. Look past the tacky decorations and an opportunity to escape may just present itself!

Death on the Reik DLC Now Available for Vermintide

about X hours ago from

While Vermintide 2 may soon be on its way, the developers at Fatshark are still getting some new content out for the original, Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide. The "Death on the Reik" DLC dropped last week and, similar to previous DLC offerings, adds a couple new levels and a new melee weapon, in addition to some new achievements. There's a loose story in the DLC (someone stole some books from the Inn Keeper and you need to get them back) to spur the group of adventurers to a new location, but really, we're all here for the chance to put the pointy end of the sword into more Skaven. The new levels, Reikwald Forest and The River Reik, offer more outdoor/open terrain where you'll get swarmed from all sides, so be prepared for some epic "fighting back-to-back moments" with your co-op crew. The new Ceremonial Dagger for Sienna (the fire mage) will help with this as it can set enemies on fire.

Our Weekend In Gaming: The Gang Gets Shooty

Our Weekend In Gaming: The Gang Gets Shooty

It's one of those rare weekends when the Co-Opticrew has an almost fully unique set of gaming plans.  However, while we aren't necessarily playing the same games, there seems to be a common theme:  projectile weaponry.  Sometimes they're future guns and sometimes they're Nazi-shootin' guns, but whatever the case, they're being used to tackle whatever stands between us and sweet, virtual victory.Naturally, gunplay isn't completely dominant.  We'll also be wielding fists, Secret Santa gifts, and, uh, emotions.  Check it out!Nick Puleo (@NickPuleo) - "Spell Force 3, Destiny 2, and whatever else I fancy."
