State of Decay 2 Getting Collector's Edition With Goodies, No Game

about X hours ago from

I was fan of the original State of Decay and the way it implemented loot-runs with survival and permadeath mechanics. The only thing missing from it was co-op, which the sequel will happily rectify. As I excited as I am to play it, the announcement of a "Collector's Edition" this morning gave me a bit of a pause. Not so much because of what's included, but specifically what's EXCLUDED - a copy of the game.Collector's Editions have been a staple of the industry, usually offering a variety of themed goodies for the die hard fans of a particular title or series. In that sense, the State of Decay 2 Collector's Edition is very much in line with the rest. It includes a zombie mask (that may or may not fit on your cat's head), a "thumb" drive (it's shaped like a severed thumb), a SteelBook case in which to put the disc of the game, a brain-shaped stand in which to put the SteelBook case, and an iron-on patch. Not a bad offering of things if you're interested, but one point does stand out.

Xbox One and PC/Mac Cross-Play Support Coming for Fortnite: Save the World

Xbox One and PC/Mac Cross-Play Support Coming for Fortnite: Save the World

Over the weekend, Epic announced that cross-play and cross-progression support would be added to the Xbox One version at some point of Fortnite: Save the World (PvE co-op) and Fortnite: Battle Royale (PvP) to allow those players to team up with friends on the PC/Mac. While this means that those players will now be able to team up with PS4 players OR Xbox One players when taking on the husks, there is still no cross-play between the PS4 and Xbox One.Look, I'll be honest here for a minute, this whole business is kind of confusing. I spent the better part of the morning debating with our managing editor, Nick Puleo, about whether or not this announcement applied to just the PvP Battle Royale mode (as everything out there is talking about that), or if it also included the co-op Save the World. Fortunately, Nick Chester - PR at Epic and different Nick altogether - clarified that the cross-play and cross-progression (more on that in a second) applies to both modes, thereby saving Nick (Puleo) and I from having to fight to the death to settle things.

Happy Wars PC And 360 To Shut Down In 2018

Happy Wars PC And 360 To Shut Down In 2018

ToyLogic has announced that Happy Wars will be shutting down on both the Xbox 360 and PC platforms on December 17th, 2018. Unfortunately, Happy Wars does not appear to be part of Xbox Backwards Compatibility, meaning anyone who wants to continue fighting will either have to re-purchase it for the Xbox One, or hope that Microsoft adds the game to their lineup before December.Happy Wars was originally released for Xbox 360 in October of 2012, with a PC adaption following in 2014, the Xbox One edition in 2015, and a Windows 10 version in 2016. All of those versions, with the exception of the Xbox One, will be coming to an end in December. Per the developers, “No game modes will be available after the game has shut down…” Happy Wars will continue on Xbox One. While the original 360 version of the game shutting down could be disheartening for hardcore fans, the title has had a 6 year run, which is definitely a long time in video game years. Add to that the ability to simply continue playing the game on Xbox One and this shutdown will not likely be the end of the game.

SoulWorker Releases Into Beta Phase

about X hours ago from

Lion Games Co. Ltd. kicked off a free beta of their newest title, SoulWorker, on February 26th. The title is posted as a Free-To-Play MMO (although Rock Paper Shotgun’s time in game didn’t convey that). The game posting has a number of features that will be available “at launch,” but since this is a beta, it appears as though more content will continue to be added. What the timeframe is for that content, or what it will entail, has not been mentioned.Along with the game appearing to not be completely finished yet, the community has been very vocal that they have had a number of issues with the game crashing, so if you are planning on jumping in with up to three friends, it may be best to wait a bit and let the technical issues get ironed out first. In the meantime, you can watch the launch trailer that was quietly dropped alongside the game.

Our Weekend In Gaming: Verminators

Our Weekend In Gaming: Verminators

The Co-Opticrew is taking some time this weekend for a little early Spring Cleaning.  Specifically, we'll be cleaning hordes of talking rats out of the gutters and alleyways of the Old World in Vermintide 2.  It's a tough job, but luckily, we stopped by our local hardware store and grabbed a few new pyromancy spells and various bludgeoning tools.  Those should help do the trick.Outside of that, we're continuing to hunt monsters, play board games, and finish backlogs.  Check it out!Nick Puleo (@NickPuleo) - "Vermintide 2 sounds good. I'm also hooked on Fortnite's Battle Royale mode."

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Stream Recap

about X hours ago from

Fatshark's Warhammer: Vermintide 2 dropped on the PC yesterday, so we got the usual Monday night stream crew to see if we've gotten any better since the original. In short: just barely. The core gameplay of Vermintide 2 is still the same. You and up to three friends team up to progress through a level, fight off hordes of foes (with the addition of the tougher Chaos forces this time around), and complete some objectives as you go. Successfully completing a level will get you a loot chest and some experience. As you level up, you'll eventually unlock "Talents" that will have an impact on the way you play your character. For instance, the Dwarf Ranger can choose a talent that increases attack speed or increases the amount he heals when using healing items. Depending on if you're playing as the team's "tank" or a damage dealer, you may choose one over the other.

Nintendo Direct Shows Off Two Co-Op Titles, Dark Souls Amiibo

Yesterday, Nintendo held one of their occasional "Nintendo Direct" events and revealed a few new things that will be heading to the Switch and 3DS over the coming months. While the one announcement that's probably got most folks excited is the new Super Smash Bros coming sometime this year (and hey, maybe it'll have co-op like the past few), our ears perked up at the mention of co-op in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes. You can catch the full recap video here (with time codes/jumps in the description), but we'll go over the few co-op highlights:A few other items of note. Okami HD is coming to the Switch this summer and if you love Legend of Zelda-type action games, then I highly recommend it. A new single-player expansion will be dropping for Splatoon 2 this summer, as well. Finally, Nintendo closed it all out with a "wait, there's one more thing," which was the reveal of a new Super Smash Bros game coming out sometime this year. Not a lot of details but boy did the chat lose its mind after spending pretty much the whole Direct asking for it.
