Strange Brigade Is Getting Some Free Content Today

Strange Brigade, Rebellion's co-op third person shooter, is currently in the midst of receiving a trilogy of paid DLC packs comprising the globe-trotting "Thrice Damned" storyline.  We'll touch on the finale of that storyline momentarily, but for now, let's focus on a couple of free additions that are available as of today (November 26th).First, we've got the Photo Mode.  A popular addition to modern games, this mode allows players to halt the action and set up the perfect snapshot of whatever awesome moment they've happened upon.  A number of sliders allow you to adjust things such as aperture and FOV.  Naturally, filters are also available to provide the perfect frame for your shot.Getting some sweet photos is all well and good, but for those more interested in testing themselves on the field of battle, Extreme Mode substantially ratchets up the game's difficulty in order to force players to think a bit more tactically about how they're going to survive.  Speaking of modes, Rebellion has also added the "Great Pyramid II" and "Afterlife II" maps to the Score Attack Mode and the "Void" map to the Horde Mode.

Ms. Splosion Man Arrives on the Nintendo Switch

about X hours ago from

Everything old is new again on the Nintendo Switch. Seven years after it debuted on the Xbox Live Arcade (BRING IT BACK, MICROSOFT!), Ms. 'Splosion Man arrives on the Switch today so you and your buddies can blow each other up across 50 levels. Cue the 1812 Overture! While this appears to be a mostly straightforward port of the game (i.e., this isn't any high-def remaster with a ton of new bonus features), it does have a couple new features, such as running at 60 fps and it also supports four player WLAN co-op across four Switch systems. It also still supports four player couch co-op or four player online co-op, provided you have a Nintendo Switch Online account.I've always enjoyed Twisted Pixel's games and I'm glad to see they're coming back into the scene between this and their new title, Defector. If you're looking for a chaotic/crazy platformer to enjoy with friends and family, Ms. Splosion Man is a great buy.

Co-Op DLC Now Available for Shadow of the Tomb Raider

about X hours ago from

The first of several co-op DLCs arrived last week for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Dubbed "The Forge," everyone's favorite freebooter of sepulchers will face a number of fiery challenges as she explores a new challenge tomb and attempts to uncover the secrets of Kuwaq Yaku. The Forge can be played solo or with a friend online.Should you and your fellow pillager of catacombs successfully make your way through the tomb, you'll be rewarded with a new outfit, a new weapon, and a new skill. It's not explicitly mentioned anywhere in the announcement for the DLC, but it does sound like both players will need to own the DLC in order to tackle the challenge together. If you picked up the Season Pass, then you'll get this for free, otherwise it'll run you $4.99. There are a number of sales going on here in the States due to Thanksgiving/Black Friday, and it appears Shadow of the Tomb Raider is available for 50% off on PC and PS4 until next Monday, 11/26, and 40% off on the Xbox One.The Forge is the first of seven planned monthly DLC releases, each of which will offer something new for Lara's latest outing. It's worth noting, though, that not all of those DLCs will offer co-op. We'll do our best to call out the ones that do.

Project Nova Gets A Trailer and Gameplay Footage

about X hours ago from

The next title from CCP Games, currently called Project Nova, has a new teaser trailer that sets up some of the sci-fi elements of this FPS that’s still wrapped up in some mystery, but of more interest to us is the twenty minutes of gameplay (courtesy of IGN) that shows off some of the “tactical co-op PvE” elements that the title touts. The setting appears to be on top of a spaceship and the baddies getting shot appear to be robots with damage numbers that pop out upon bullet contact, with four players working together to capture strategic points and defend them against the A.I. controlled robots.Project Nova is set in the EVE Online universe, expanding EVE Online from its MMO roots into a completely different genre. The game is currently only slated for a PC release with no existing timeframe, and is described on the official website as “a dark and thrilling first-person co-op shooter on PC, set in the dystopian EVE universe and featuring strong emphasis on mastery and strategy, co-evolved with the community.” Check out the trailer below to see that in action in two different matches featuring some class-based gameplay.

Astroneer Is Getting A Full Release In February 2019

about X hours ago from

Astroneer, everyone's favorite game about being a wacky astronaut, will be released in full just a few months from now.  No longer will your terraforming be plagued by thoughts surrounding the impermanence of Early Access.  Instead, come February 6th, 2019, you can scour a planet for resources with the knowledge that all is as it should be.The game was initially slated for release sometime in December of this year, but developer System Era decided somewhere along the way that they needed just a little more time to polish the game off.  The "1.0" release will also coincide with the addition of a new exploratory adventure, taking the player to "seven brand new planets while facing challenges like dangerous flora, treacherous terrain and immense, mysterious structures."  I've always said large, mysterious structures were mankind's greatest foes, so it's nice to finally get some affirmation of my beliefs.Astroneer's co-op feature allows up to four online players to work together as they attempt to survive (and subsequently thrive) on a harsh, alien planet.  It's currently available to console gamers on the Xbox One, and PC gamers can purchase it through either the Windows 10 store or Steam.
