Our Weekend In Gaming: The Gears Are Turning

As is our way, the Co-Opticrew is moving on to the newest, hottest co-op games this weekend.  Much like Andy in the nightmare sequence of Toy Story 2, we're no longer interested in our old toys.  New, exciting options await in the form of guns-with-chainsaws and guns-without-chainsaws, and we'll be up to our eyeballs in them. This weekend, we've got games with eminently forgettable names, games about being a teacher, and games what happen on the top of a table.  Check it out!Nick Puleo (@NickPuleo) - "Destiny 2 and Devil May Cry 5.  Change of plans (thanks Marc) - GEARS 5!"

Borderlands 3's Endgame and Post-Launch Content Detailed

Borderlands 3's Endgame and Post-Launch Content Detailed

At PAX West last weekend, Gearbox showed off a bit of what players can expect from Borderlands 3's endgame. In short: New Game Plus, a challenge mode, and an evolution of Borderlands 2 "Badass Rank," now called "Guardian Rank." Additionally, they revealed a few details of their post-launch plans, which include two events and paid DLC that will feature a "campaign add-on."Breaking these down one-by-one, let's talk about the New Game Plus, or "True Vault Hunter Mode." After you've beaten the campaign on "Normal" (which you have to do), you can then play through it all again on True Vault Hunter. You keep your gear and stats, but none of the campaign progress. Enemies will be tougher, but you'll also be getting better gear, and really, isn't that what the game is all about? Getting better guns and watching numbers go up?To help you do that, you'll need to drop some points into your Guardian Rank, which also unlocks after you beat the campaign. It's worth noting that beating the campaign with one character unlocks this system for all characters. So if you rolled through the whole thing with FL4K and now want to start a new playthrough with Zane, Zane will be able to reap the benefits of Guardian Rank and will also earn Guardian Tokens each time you he fills the Guardian Rank bar.

World War Z Proving Grounds Now Available

about X hours ago from

Saber Interactive, the developer of the zombie-filled World War Z, has released the last bit of free “Season One” content. Proving Grounds adds new challenges, guns, and aesthetic items. Further, Saber Interactive has created a trailer to assist in walking players through the large amount of content they have added with this update, which can be found below. World War Z and the Proving Grounds content is available now across PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.In the trailer, something that is specifically addressed is the new aesthetic content that is being added to World War Z. These outfit and character rewards are stated to be rewards for players who complete weekly challenges and will remain behind a play-based wall (you read that right). This means that only players who have completed in-game objectives and earned in-game currency will be able to purchase the aesthetic items without any other way to purchase them, such as a paying real-world currency for the same items. If you want to check out the handy road map made for Season 1, you can check that out here Will you be grabbing your friends (even with their possible vulnerability as described in the video) and heading back into the world of the undead, or has World War Z lost its luster since its April release? Remnant: From the Ashes Stream Recap and Impressions

about X hours ago from

If you missed our weekly stream this week, which happened Tuesday night instead of Monday because Monday was holiday in the U.S., no worries! We've got a handy recap of all the co-op goodness from Remnant: From the Ashes, along with some impressions of the first few hours.A quick disclaimer before going any further. Part of the joy of Remnant, much like in Dark Souls, is exploring and discovering things for yourself. If you don't want anything spoiled for you, then I'd avoid the video (for now) and just go experience the game for yourself. Locke, Mike, and myself all highly recommend it, especially in co-op, and if the idea of a "Dark Souls-like" turns you off, don't worry; Remnant is more like a third-person shooter in its minute-to-minute gameplay. The links to Dark Souls are more in how the game handles its world-building through NPC interactions, lore books, and item descriptions. Alright, all that said, let's dive in further.

The Multiplayer/Co-Op Servers for Uncharted 2 and 3 Are No More

The Multiplayer/Co-Op Servers for Uncharted 2 and 3 Are No More

Yesterday, Naughty Dog shutdown the multiplayer servers for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (along with the multiplayer servers for The Last of Us). The announcement was made last June via a blog posting on Naughty Dog's website, and the fated day has come and gone, leaving all our co-op adventures in the digital dust. After the huge success of the first Uncharted, we all wondered what Naughty Dog would do for the sequel. Not only did they ramp up the story and action, but they gave us co-op lovers something to be happy about: a dedicated co-op mode. They then tweaked and refined that for the third (and fourth) game, so it's a little sad to see these games return to being single-player only affairs. Oh well, so it goes in this digital age. It's worth noting that even though the servers for Uncharted 2 and 3 are done, it doesn't affect the servers for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.We've marked our database entries for Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3 as "co-op removed."

TwinCop Headed to Xbox One Next Month, PS4 Sometime Later

The bizarre, cooperative twin-stick shooter, TwinCop, will be making its way to the Xbox One next month. Finite Reflection Studios' "most cooperative game, EVER" will arrive on October 11th on Microsoft's console, and there's an update planned for both that version and the PC Steam version at some point. The update will add "alternate modes of gameplay" and new maps for the endless/wave-based Arcade mode. No date has been provided for when that content will be added to the game and whether it will happen alongside the game's release on the Xbox One, or later. The title will also be headed to the PlayStation 4 at some point, and the developer has said they hope they "will be able to release [the game on PS4] as close to the Xbox release as possible."TwinCop is currently available on PC via Steam for $15. Two player couch co-op is supported (and recommended) throughout.
