ICYMI: Gears 5 Received New Content and Last Day for “Gearsmas” Goodies

about X hours ago from

Gears 5 kicked off its second “Operation” (i.e., season) last month, called “Operation: Free For All.” The Title Update 3 brought a slew of bug fixes, maps, and the new Free For All PvP mode to the game, but that’s not all we got for December. Much like in real life, Christmas came upon us and the COGs faster than we had anticipated and with it came some holiday-themed content for Gears 5 in the form of the annual Gearsmas event.

Also on a SHMUP spree so more Jamestown and various Raiden games."

Survive on an Alien World in GearStorm

about X hours ago from

There are quite a few open-world/survival games out there these days; from the fantastical to the prehistoric and even in space, you're not lacking for options. However, not all of these games support co-op play, and even fewer (none?) support mechs. Enter Iron City Games' open-world, survival/tactical FPS game, GearStorm. The core premise to GearStorm is that a "nano-virus" has nearly wiped out all of the human race and the few survivors must now find a new place to live. Our frail bodies cannot make the flight to the new world, Apollyon, but we can upload DNA samples and our minds to some computers on an unmanned probe and send that along with a bio-printer to our new home. Once it gets there, it's going to start up the biggest print job in human history and let's not stop to consider what a "paper jam" might look like. Anyways, your job is to establish a foothold on the planet by building a colony, complete quests, and, eventually, unravel the mysteries of Apollyon. The campaign supports up to 12 players online or via LAN, though the devs have said you'll probably want fewer than that as the loot is shared and you might have a better time with just three or four buddies instead of a whole squad.

Zombie Army Trilogy Coming To Nintendo Switch

Zombie Army Trilogy Coming To Nintendo Switch

Rebellion’s Zombie Army Trilogy will be limping over (as zombies do) to the Nintendo Switch come the first half of 2020. The game is set to include all previously released content, including the Horde mode and all story chapters, as well as an exclusive feature to the Nintendo version: wireless multiplayer for up to four players. More ways to play with friends means more co-opportunities to enjoy! If you are on the fence about the Zombie Army Trilogy, fear not. We reviewed the game back on its previous console release and concluded that “If you like games that don't require much in the way of progression or time-consuming leveling-up for characters, then this is a fine way to kill some time (and zombies) with a group of friends.” With the trilogy making its way onto the Switch sometime early next year, and the next installment, Zombie Army 4: Dead War, coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in February, maybe this means we’ll see Zombie Army 4 on the Switch sometime towards the end of 2020?Will you be snagging these portable zombies, or does the new year mean new games rather than re-releases on new consoles? Let us know in the comments below!

Multiplayer Pack Will Arrive Next Year for Luigi's Mansion 3

Multiplayer Pack Will Arrive Next Year for Luigi's Mansion 3

Not too long ago, keen observers noticed an interesting bullet point on the official Luigi's Mansion 3 website just prior to its release. Specifically, that "paid DLC will come to Luigi's Mansion 3 in the future, adding new content to the ScareScraper and ScreamPark multiplayer modes." However, no other information was offered. Earlier this week, Nintendo finally revealed what that content will entail, and how much it will cost. The "Multiplayer Pack" will include two parts, though both seem to include the same types of content. The first part arrives April 30, 2020, and will include three new mini-games for the competitive ScreamPark Mode and three new outfits for Luigi to wear in the ScareScraper mode with "matching floor themes and themed ghosts." The second part arrives July 31, 2020 and will be more of the same. Both parts must be purchased together as part of the "Multiplayer Pack" bundle, which is available for $10. On the one hand, it's a bummer they're not adding anything significant to the co-op mode; on the other, CHECK OUT LUIGI'S ROCKING BOUFFANT!!!!

Get Some Friends and Scrub Up, Surgeon Simulator 2 Is Coming Next Year

about X hours ago from

We did a "Co-Op Roundup" earlier this week of all the new co-op games that were announced/revealed during this year's Game Awards, but one slipped past us. Bossa Studios has invited us back into the world of surgery simulation with Surgeon Simulator 2, and this time, it won't be just you putting on a surgical mask and sharpening your surgical hatchet. Based on the trailer and language in the press release, four player co-op (we're assuming online) will be supported in the game. The original Surgeon Simulator (which got two player couch co-op on Switch and PS4) rose to prominence within the video game world thanks to streaming and YouTube videos because, let's be honest, watching someone utterly botch fictional surgery with wacky physics is entertaining. With the next title, the craziness will be cranked up even more because now you can have up to four friends right there with you who inevitably will attempt to A) chop off your head with a hacksaw, B) throw that perfectly good kidney you need to transplant into the trash, C) just put all the medical equipment into the patient, or D) all of the above.
