Our Weekend In Gaming: Sweet Victory

Victory reigns supreme this weekend at Co-Optimus HQ.  Whether it's a cross-country move or a really hard platformer, we've met the task head-on and thoroughly conquered it.  Unless, that is, you include bonus DLC, like extra levels or all the things that need to be done after a cross-country move.  As a matter of fact, we may need to cancel that all-night celebratory rager.  We've, uh, got some things to take care of.Elsewhere, the Co-Opticrew is resuming their mobster escapades, amassing bells, and building virtual homes.  Check it out!Nick Puleo (@NickPuleo) - "Wrapping up Streets of Rage 4 for next week's review and more DOOM.  Forgot XCOM Chimera Squad came out, so I'll be checkin that out too!"

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Patch 2.4 Out Now, Double XP Weekend

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 received a, as the developer puts it, “small” patch last week in the form of the 2.4 update. The update, viewable in full here, brings better collision detection to Enchanter’s Lair, fixes locations where players can get stuck on both Old Haunts and Enchanter’s Lair, and some general fixes to the camera and characters all around to provide a more seamless experience. Finally, the post ends by introducing the basic sorting functionality that is looking to be built upon in the game going forward, so players with hefty inventories will be able to keep it manageable while killing the horrors that plague the lands. Check out the full list of updates below. While this update is simply intended to fix bugs rather than add new content, the developer stated recently in their April 3rd news post that they are working on the next season of content and intending to talk about it soon. This constant stream of updates and content has been a great way of keeping the community involved as the team has expanded to new consoles, added new maps, fixed bugs, and added content requested by fans. Finally, if you’re the type of warrior who is always ready to take to the front, there is a double XP weekend for Warhammer: Vermintide 2 happening right now until Monday, 4/27/2020, which you can check out here.

Help Real Life Medical Researchers In Borderlands 3

about X hours ago from

These days, there are numerous ways gamers can use their beloved hobby as a means of benefiting society.  Charity events, such as the recently completed Corona Relief Done Quick, have raised millions of dollars in the aid of medical and humanitarian organizations.  That said, I don't think I've seen the potential for a more direct impact than the new "Borderlands Science" minigame in Borderlands 3.The minigame, which can be found in a corner of Doctor Tannis' infirmary, is something of an arcade puzzler wherein the player maps out rows of tiles to the best of their ability.  What's going on behind the scenes, though, is that the results of these sessions help researchers map out and catalogue the human gut biome.  On top of that, participating players will earn in-game currency that they can then spend on character boosting items.  The whole operation is laid out in more detail in the video below:2K Games has also provided a synopsis of "Borderlands Science" for anyone wanting more information on how their gameplay is actually helping researchers.

Fort Triumph Out on Steam Now, Our Stream Recap

about X hours ago from

Sometimes it's the simple things that derive the most pleasure, like that of allowing players to rename their characters to something absurd in games. Fort Triumph, a new tactical game from developer CookieByte Entertainment offers so much more though than just randomly generated and edited names. Fort Triumph is played in two phases. During the overview world phase you'll look for items of interest in the game world, trying to collect magical items and resources to expand your empire via your fort. It's here you'll add buildings, recruit new units, and add upgrades to your army overall.  Also in the world are enemies where you'll be taking on set battles with aptly descriptive help text like "A Small Group of Wizards".  Once you enter these battles the game takes a more XCOM like approach where each character is allotted 3 action points per turn and allowed too move, defend, attack, and support with their team.
