Gang Beasts Developer To Self-Publish Updates Moving Forward

about X hours ago from

Gang Beasts, one of the most chaotic (and hilarious) multiplayer games around, has lost its publisher.  After a long period of support through the Double Fine Presents label, developer Boneloaf is breaking off to keep their title running on their own.The split seems to be entirely amicable, as evidenced by Boneloaf's blog post, and it's a relatively natural development given Double Fine's acquisition by Xbox Game Studios.  The blog post also details what lies ahead for the world's wackiest combatants.  As things stand, Boneloaf is planning to push build 1.13 in the near future, which mostly consists of fixes and fine-tuning.  Once that's done, though, they will be working to produce more content in the form of stages and costumes.  All in all, it looks like things will be just fine for Gang Beasts and its fans.Gang Beasts is primarily known for its "competitive" multiplayer modes, the most popular of which tasks players with tossing their opponents off a stage before the same happens to them.  Fortunately for us co-op fans, that's not the only way to play.  The game's co-op mode, "Waves", lets players work together to take on, you guessed it, waves of A.I. foes.

Minecraft Dungeons Co-Op Stream Recap and Impressions

about X hours ago from

Minecraft is the top selling video game of all time, starting at its roots as a small indie game all the way to the franchise being purchased by Microsoft. It spawned an entire genre of video games and continues to be insanely popular among families of gamers. Spin-offs were inevitable, the first was a proper "story" game in Minecraft Adventures and now players will get an action rpg flavor in Minecraft Dungeons. We dove into the $20 title last night in our regular Twitch Stream to see just what the game offers. Make no mistake, this isn't a Diablo clone by any means, but what Minecraft Dungeons does is takes bits and pieces of that formula and applies it in a way that's much more consumable by the masses. Instead of a giant interwoven campaign players choose individual dungeons to tackle with various levels of difficulty each yielding better and better loot. Once complete it back to the hub world to re-arm and dive back in.

Our Weekend In Gaming: Back In Action

The Co-Opticrew is back in action this weekend and, wouldn't you know it, we're planning on playing even more video games.  That's right, we're grown adults capable of making our own decisions, and if those decisions revolve around careening through space or obliterating fighting robots, then so be it.  Maybe one day, we'll have a weekend filled with yard work and reviewing our grocery budgets, but until then, you know where to find us.On this weekend's gaming docket, we've got puzzles made by fish, infielders made by machines, and soldiers made by a clear overdose of protein supplements.  Check it out!Nick Puleo (@NickPuleo) - "I plan to dive back into Gears Tactics. Maybe some Civ VI."

Dungeon Defenders: Awakened Launches Today, Stream Recap with Impressions

about X hours ago from

The original Dungeon Defenders was launched in 2011 and went on to be a huge indie game success in a time when indie games were just beginning to hit their stride. The game had a sequel in 2017 that changed the formula and attempted a free to play model, but wasn't met with the same critical acclaim or success. Now Dungeon Defenders: Awakened is throwing its helmet into the ring, bringing the series back and returning to the originals roots.Dungeon Defenders: Awakened launches into version 1.0 with six difficulty modes crafted for Defenders of all experience levels, including Massacre mode, a new challenge with unique enemies to overcome. Experiment with varied game types like Pure Strategy and Mixed modes, each of which has specific rules to remix the core gameplay to test even hardened veterans, and tackle Challenge Maps, which raise the bar while sweetening the pot with greater rewards. We dove into the game over the last few days, checking out a pre-release version and yes, it all feels very very familiar. So much so, if I didn't go back and look at videos of the original, I would have called it an HD remake. But there are differences, mainly in the core characters themselves. That said while the core gameplay loop is the same and several locations are similar, there is a ton of new content to be had and several new modes available to play.

Serious Sam 4 Releases this August

about X hours ago from

The Serious Sam series has been co-op friendly since the beginning, with the first game launching way back in 2001 challenging the likes of DOOM, Duke Nukem and QUAKE. Now the series has returned after several VR releases with a proper sequel simply called Serious Sam 4.The big feature this time appears to be called The Legion system, part of Croteam's custom engine the game is built on. Legion allows the battlefield to contain "thousands of enemies" at a time. The series focus has always been about overwhelming you in combat with enemies, and this time it looks to push that to 11.On the co-op side of things we've got full four player online co-op through the campaign and special "side missions" available as well.
