Developers Tease New Warframe Content at PAX East

about X hours ago from

Developer Digital Extremes hosted a panel at PAX East last weekend where they talked a little about the state of Warframe, the free-to-play action MMO with space ninjas, and teased some new content that they have planned for this year. Top of the list was a new Warframe, a new prime frame, new content that revolves around the Grineer, and a new competitive mode, Lunaro.During the almost hour-long panel, the developers briefly talked about the new "fairy" frame, which has yet to be named, and stated that she would use those razor-edged butterfiles you see floating around her as one of her powers. Additionally, she would have "floaty powers" and would be able to "shrinks down to attack normal-sized enemies." Along with those details, they revealed that the existing Warframe, Vauban, would be getting a Prime version and that they've got some new events planned for the year, which seem to include something to do with the Grineer's matriachs. You can watch the full panel over on YouTube, or check out the five-minute highlight reel below.

PAX East 2016: Shadow Warrior 2 Hands-On Impressions

PAX East 2016: Shadow Warrior 2 Hands-On Impressions

At PAX East 2016, I had a chance to try out the upcoming Shadow Warrior 2, the sequel to the 2013 Shadow Warrior reboot. These are my hands-on impressions.I’ve never played a Shadow Warrior game, so when I went to my appointment, I was going in fairly blind. As chance would have it, there was a short wait for the press terminal. This meant I could catch myself up on a lot of the story background with writer Scott Anderson. Scott’s job was to update the humor in the franchise - a balance of staying true to the feeling of the IP while making it feel like a modern-day game. The final result? Lo Wang is still the brash, over-the-top persona that Shadow Warrior fans expect, but with a new character that accompanies Lo Wang to balance him out. The events of the game have resulted in Lo Wang’s soul being fused together with another character (I believe her name is Kameko). She is none too impressed with Lo Wang’s attitude and neither of them are happy about their shared situation. She provides snarky comments and retorts to Lo Wang that only he can hear. The game takes place five years after the events of the previous game. The world has become a place where humans and demons co-exist. While running a simple mission, Lo Wang winds up in a situation gone horribly wrong. As expected, it’s now up to him to save the world from the forces of evil.

Four Classic XBLA Co-Op Titles get the Backwards Compatibility Treatment

about X hours ago from

The drip feed approach to releasing backward compatible games on the Xbox One is like a new form of water torture, but at least it offers a nice surprise as a game you forgot you own pops up on the console.  For co-op fans, four out of the five games released this week are just for you; namely The Cave, Double Dragon Neon, Altered Beast and Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime.Out of the three, The Cave is probably the most prestigious as this 3 player local co-op adventure title received a handsome 4 out of 5 in our Co-Optimus review.  Rocking up with same 4 out of 5 is Double Dragon Neon, a surprisingly decent take on the Double Dragon legacy that offers the 2 player local and online co-op you would want from the franchise.Altered Beast roars in and is a classic SEGA title known for it great graphics and massive sprites back in the day.  It also has 2 player local co-op, but if I recall correctly, the game is rock hard. Last up is Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, a more humble affair only receiving 2.5 out of 5.

Go Retro RTS in 8-Bit Armies

about X hours ago from

The collection of 8-bit "demakes" has grown one size this day thanks to Petroglyph's 8-Bit Armies. The title is every bit a modern RTS, complete with upgrade trees and resources to manage, as viewed through an NES filter. As with many RTS games, much of the action 8-Bit Armies is focused on building up your base, cranking out units, and then marching them off to battle the opposing forces. While the 25 mission campaign is solo only, there are 10 specific co-op missions you can play with a friend. When you're done beating those you can see how well you fair against the A.I. for some good ole fashioned "comp stomp"-ing in the Skirmish mode, which supports up to eight players total (be they human or bot).8-Bit Armies is available through Steam for 10% off until April 29. The Co-Op Missions support two players online, while the A.I. Skirmish mode supports up to eight in some combination of human and A.I.

Tank Brawl Brings Classic Tank Combat to Modern PCs

Tank Brawl Brings Classic Tank Combat to Modern PCs

Back in the mid to late 1980s, Namco released Battle City. The game can be described as "one of those tank fighting games". Seems like there were a lot of them back then, doesn't it? Anyway, Battle City held its own and eventually became a classic. Which is why a couple of indie devs have just released a modern re-imagining of the game for PC.Tank Brawl takes everything that made Battle City so fun and brings it into the modern era. And in HD, to boot! The basic idea is this: you drive a tank, you shoot the tank's gun, and you blow up other tanks. That's... well, that's all you need to have a good time, right? Tank Brawl includes five different tank upgrades, destructible environments, seven power-ups, and simple controls anyone can figure out in like two seconds. Good for old retro gamers, but also good for kids.Another throwback to the days of old, Tank Brawl features local co-op for two players. Grab controllers and start shooting, it's that simple! When the game reaches 3,000 sales the team will start working on a public release of a level editor, meaning the current set of 23 stages will expand fast.
