Nintendo & Microsoft Are Worried About Your Health

about X hours ago from

Nintendo and Microsoft have announced new initiatives to help you improve your overall well-being.

During its semi-annual financial briefing, Satoru Iwata, Nintendo president and CEO, outlined the first project of the company's quality of life (QOL) business. Iwata says Nintendo is working with U.S.-based company ResMed to produce a non-wearable sensor that gathers data on your heartbeat, breathing, and movements during sleep. This info will then be sent to cloud servers for analysis, which will be visually represented to you. Nintendo says that as a guiding principle it wants the sleep and fatigue data to be available as soon as you wake up and require no operation from the user.

Iwata says that feedback based on your sleep information will produce suggestions for actions you can take to improve your health such as exercise or a better diet.

Shadow Of Mordor’s Lord Of The Hunt DLC Introduces Mounted Warchiefs, New Monsters

about X hours ago from

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (our review) is a competent action game enhanced by the compelling Nemesis system. Giving each Uruk captain and warchief a personality means that each encounter is going to be different from player-to-player. That variety is going to be enhanced in the first DLC pack.

Lord of the Hunt introduces beastmaster warchiefs that appear in combat on the backs of Mordor’s dangerous wildlife. The DLC also brings a new type of hulking Graug that spits venom, the Caragath, and the Ghul Horde.

There are story missions included as well, with Torvin the Dwarf playing a central role. For those that prefer side-quests, you’ll be able to engage in beast hunting missions and compete in leaderboard-driven challenges. Finally, the new Lord of the Hunt skin will be included.

Report: Xbox Entertainment Studios’ Nancy Tellem, Jordan Levin Depart Microsoft

Microsoft’s series of layoffs totaling 18,000 employees weren’t confined to the mobile phone division. The doomed Xbox Entertainment Studios was part of the cuts, with the program’s head Nancy Tellem let go earlier this week.

Variety reports on the layoffs, also citing that existing projects that remain unfinished are now abandoned. This contradicts statements made by the company in July that currently in-development initiatives would be seen through before disbanding the studio.

This seems to include the remainder of the Atari-focused Signal to Noise series. The first episode of the miniseries, about the E.T. cartridge excavation in New Mexico, is reportedly complete.

In Nintendo president Satoru Iwata’s presentation to shareholders, he revealed an upcoming feature for the Wii U. Nintendo’s console will join the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, offering the ability to pre-purchase and pre-download titles.

The first game to be included in this program will be Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Nintendo will also sell cards at retail with pre-download codes for those that prefer not transmit their financial information.

The program will expand to other Wii U titles and eventually 3DS. Nintendo says this is part of its new digital strategy.

BioShock Infinite: The Complete Edition Officially Priced And Dated

2K confirmed its existence when the rumors starting leaking last month, but now we know when it will be available and how much it will cost.

Tucked away in today's assorted financial reports was a November 4 release date and a $39.99 price for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Curiously, PC is not listed under platforms for the re-release of the game.

2K has yet to confirm the contents of the game, but it's a fair assumption that the package will include the game and all of its follow-up DLC.
