Weekend Warrior – The Legend Of Logan: Call Of The Wild

As many of you surely already know, today is the launch of the console/handheld hybrid, the Nintendo Switch. The Wii U failed to gain traction among the gaming community, but hopefully this new system will reverse Nintendo's fortunes. The fact that it's arriving with a brand new Legend of Zelda title is certainly a boon for the system, even if Breath of the Wild is also available on Wii U. Meanwhile, the most famous X-Men member of them all, Wolverine, embarks on his final journey in Logan, the R-rated finale to the adventure which began seventeen years ago in the very first X-Men movie.

When are you planning to buy a Switch? Will you be seeing Logan? Sound off in the comments below, and check out what GI's best and brightest are up to this weekend.

Brian Shea (@BrianPShea) – I’ll be getting my Switch later today and then I’ll be throwing myself into Hyrule. I’ve been looking forward to Breath of the Wild for a long time, and now that it’s here, I can’t wait to dig in. When I’m not doing that, I’ll probably find some time to play Overwatch and Pokémon Go.

Bolivian Government Files Formal Complaint About Ghost Recon Wildlands

According to a Reuters report, the Bolivian government is unhappy with the depiction of its country in the upcoming open-world shooter Ghost Recon Wildlands, and the nation has filed an official complaint with a French embassy in La Paz.

Ghost Recon Wildlands takes place in a near-future version of Bolivia in which a ruthless Mexican drug cartel has taken over the country and turned it into world’s largest producer of cocaine. Since Ubisoft is a French company, Bolivia's Interior Minister Carlos Romero has asked the French government to intervene in the development of the game, adding that Bolivia reserves the right to take legal action.

In a statement to Reuters, Ubisoft said the game is "a work of fiction" and that "while the game's premise imagines a different reality than the one that exists in Bolivia today, we do hope that the in-game world comes close to representing the country's beautiful topography."

Sleeping Dogs Movie In Development; Will Star Hong Kong Action Star Donnie Yen

Sleeping Dogs Movie In Development; Will Star Hong Kong Action Star Donnie Yen

The 2012 open world game Sleeping Dogs earned strong reviews (including a solid 7.75 from Game Informer) and was met with decent sales. However, a sequel failed to materialize, and the ill-advised online multiplayer spin-off, Triad Wars, was quietly canceled with the unfortunate shuttering of developer United Front Games.

However, Sleeping Dogs may live on as a feature film. Hollywood producer Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious, I Am Legend, 21 Jump Street) and his studio, Original Films, are working on an adaptation of the game, which is set to star Hong Kong superstar Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, XXX: The Return of Xander Cage).

It is unclear if Yen will play the game's protagonist, Wei Shen, or if the film will follow the storyline of the original. The game featured the Hollywood talents of Tom Wilkinson, Emma Stone, Lucy Liu, Tzi Ma, and James Hong, so it will be interesting to see if any of those actors find their way into the movie.

Destiny’s Spring Update Is The Age Of Triumph

Alongside some big Destiny 2 news, Bungie has also begun to unveil its next major update for the first game.

Today’s blog post provided some big news for existing players of Destiny, and how their character will and won’t carry over to the next full sequel. In addition, Bungie revealed the name of its spring update: Age of Triumph.

The new live event is being built as a celebration of the first Destiny game, and to give a “fitting close” to the game.  Age of Triumph is targeting a launch in late March, but the Destiny community team is planning to begin showing it off next week on a live stream, scheduled for Wednesday, March 8. That live stream will be the first in a series leading up to the launch of the new content, with additional streams on March 15 and March 22.

Destiny 2 Characters Carry Over, Gear And Power Stay Behind

Destiny 2 Characters Carry Over, Gear And Power Stay Behind

At long last, Bungie is speaking publicly about the sequel, and the first details answer a big question for players of the existing game.

In a dedicated blog post this morning, Bungie has begun to publicly discuss Destiny 2 for the first time. Though confirmed through Activision investor calls prior to today, this is the first time Bungie is directly discussing plans for the new game, and the developer is wasting no time in declaring one major piece of information about the upcoming game: Guardian race, gender, and appearance have the potential to carry over from the first Destiny game to Destiny 2, suggesting an ongoing storyline that features the same hero in the starring role. However, your weapons, armor, items purchased through microtransactions, and power will not carry over into the sequel. In that regard, this game will be a fresh start for both veteran players and newcomers.

"Specifically, the class, race, gender, face, hair, and marking selections for all characters that have achieved Level 20 and completed the Black Garden story mission will carry forward," reads the blog post. "We also plan to award those veteran accounts with honors that reflect your Destiny 1 accomplishments."
